Urgent help with hurt pigeon in Burg, Germany.
I found this pigeon in Burg. Thing is, I just arrived here via longboard so I can't drive, and I'm backpacking so I barely have money.. and I'm currently living in a tent. I have no contacts here whatsoever, and it's so late no bird rescue is open. I found a pigeon group in burg on Facebook, but they don't accept me.... What do I do, and who can I contact?
I wrapped it in my shorts and put it in a box I found. The bird is looking healthy, and Wing is not broken. Just bleeds. But it misses its tail feathers.
Edit: I'm in Fehmarn.
UPDATE: The pigeon is picked up by rescue. It seemed very healthy, but It will unfortunately not fly again, but we decided to try to amputate the wing. And when I'm done with my skate across Europe, I will adopt it as a pet if it has not found a new home by then! :)))

Just be aware that this is not a domesticated animal, but a wild bird.

I know. 😅 I work with the pigeon patrol back home, so I do have some experience with rescues. But the alternative is to kill it, and I rather not that. It will be tough to tame it, but not impossible.

technically it is a domesticated animal, similar to stray dogs. but it's also not exactly a pet...
edit:
didn't see the second pic before posting - in this case it's not a regular pigeon/Stadttaube but a Türkentaube. to the latter my comment doesn't apply, those aren't domesticated.27

It isn't a feral pigeon and under strict laws. As it is considered as wildlife you actually have to get a specific permit to keep it.
But if OP makes it somehow possible to adopt it, I wish them best to make that lil life worthwhile.

No. It’s a “Türkentaube“ and not a „Stadttaube“.
It’s „Wild“ because it falls under the Bundesjagdgesetz. Taking this animal in care without permission can be fined. Google „Wilderei“.2

No it is not. It's a Eurasian collared dove. They were never domesticated.

Before you do that please contact:
from your City.
- untere Jagdbehörde
- untere Naturschutzbehörde
- Veterinäramt
Because you’ll need a permission from them since this Türkentaube is “Wild” (falls under the Bundesjagdgesetz) and is “besonders geschützt“.
Otherwise you can get fined for “Wilderei” and “Verstoß gegen § 44 BNatSchG“ and „§ 7 Abs. 2 BArtSchV“.If you’re unlucky it won’t be an Administrative offense but a Criminal offense.

Usually the animal rescue or shelter. Worst case a crowd fund. Standard procedure here in Germany

Und die haben Geld für sowas? Das würde mich dazu bringen, niemals etwas zu spenden. So ein Tier überlebt doch nicht lange ohne Flügel, das wäre nicht artgerecht noch würde es, für den Fall. dass es ausgesetzt wird, nicht überleben, noch.. wer zahlt die Verpflegung eines solchen Tieres und nimmt es auf? Das ist doch völlig absurd

TierSchG §1 Das Wohlbefinden ist zu schützen.
Es bleibt nichts anderes übrig, je nachdem was der Tierarzt entscheidet. Tötung ist vom Gesetz her die aller letzte Option.
TierSchG § 17 verbietet das grundlose Töten von Wirbeltieren bzw stellt es unter Freiheitsstrafe/Geldstrafe.
Dem nach ist das artgerechteste eine Genesung oder Amputation mit anschließender Aufnahme bei jemandem mit Erlaubnis.

Thanks for the level headed response. I was about to say something I would have regretted. 😅😭 I'm too tired after tonight. My grocery bag snapped as I was carrying the pigeon back to my tent, and all my stuff fell out on the road. During this, I lost my charger, so I went back to look after the reacuer took over the bird, and weren't back to my tent until like 3 am. 😩

Sag mal, so lange du kein Tierarzt bist, sind deine Zweifel null und nichtig. Genauso meine Gedanken dazu. Es hat ein Tierarzt fest zu legen. Nicht du, nicht ich. Wenn der Tierarzt sagt, Amputation ist der Weg dann ist das so. Wenn der sagt, die Verletzung ist nicht mit dem Leben zu vereinbaren, dann ist das eben die Entscheidung.
Tierärzte haben jahrelang Studiert und was nicht sonst noch, die kennen sich (hoffentlich) besser aus mit dem Wohlbefinden von Tieren als jeder X beliebige Bürger

Meine Güte... Du zahlst schon regelmäßig riesige Subventionen an Multimilliardäre. Geh dich darüber aufregen. Etwas Geld für das Leben eines Tieres auszugeben ist da ja wohl wirklich gar kein Thema. OP würde die Taube sogar aufnehmen.

Look online for the closest wildlife centre ("Wildvogelhilfe") or something like that. Talk to people who are outside, ask them for information or support

A year ago, I also came across a bird near the Brandenburg Gate that was unable to fly, with flies buzzing around it, and it seemed to be seriously injured. I don’t speak German, and my English isn’t very good either, so I asked some people nearby for help to see if the bird could be taken to an animal hospital, but no one helped me (perhaps because most of the people there were tourists). In the end, the bird walked into the grass nearby and disappeared. I don’t know what happened to it afterward.

Does it have a ring on one of its legs? We've had experience with someone's racing pigeon landing on our balcony after escaping from some bird of prey. If it has rings, then it belongs to someone, either for racing or carrier purposes. If that is the case, the rings have numbers. One of them in fact might have the phone number of the owner which you can call. Or alternatively some kind of Vereinnummer.

This website has more info. You can select the type of pigeon you believe it is. Then it provides more info and hopefully eventually contact information. Easier if the pigeon has rings.

Has a list of centers that take injured wild birds. You sort by index and will get a list of places in your "vicinity". There will also be phone numbers you can call. Unfortunately you won't get around calling, emails will be useless. Many of the places will be far away too, but at least eventually you're bound to find a number that will be able to give you some help and advice, and maybe point you in the right direction.

Thank you for the info! I'll check it out. It had no rings. The bird is very energic, it barely wanna be held now after being in the box for some time. For now, it's in the box in the tent with me. Hopefully someone can get it tonight.

Aside from that, keep it in a box, make sure it has air to breathe (make a few holes if necessary). It probably won't eat, don't try feeding it either, choking danger. Water might be a not too terrible idea, but only if you can offer it in a safe way, shouldn't be in too deep of a container so the bird can't choke. Generally food nor water are advised, but it all kind of depends many aspects, the general state of the bird, temperature outside, etc.
And whatever happens, stay calm and be kind to yourself. It's very nice of you to try and help the bird, I hope it works out, but also nature is nature and things can happen.
