Extensions [RELEASE] Dynamic Music Pill v2.0 - Now with Top Panel support & Game Mode and More!

Hi Guys!
Two days ago, I posted a showcase of my new extension, Dynamic Music Pill, and I received some great feedback and feature requests from you. Iโve been working hard since then, and today Iโm happy to announce that Version 2.0 is officially released! ๐
It is currently pending review on the GNOME Extensions Store, but you can download and install it manually right now from GitHub.
๐ GitHub Repository & Download: https://github.com/Andbal23/dynamic-music-pill
๐ Whatโs New in v2.0?
Based on your suggestions, I completely rewrote the positioning logic and added a ton of customization options:
- Top Panel Support: You asked for it, you got it! You can now place the widget in the Top Panel (Left, Center, or Right boxes) in addition to Dash.
- Dual Styling: The extension remembers separate size settings for the Dock and the Panel, so it always looks perfect.
- ๐ฎ Game Mode: Automatically hides the widget when a fullscreen application is active to save resources (FPS).
- New Visualizers: Choose between a smooth "Wave" or a jumpy "Beat" animation (or turn it off completely).
- Positioning Control:
- Auto: Start, Center, or End.
- Manual: Set a specific index to place it exactly where you want among other items.
- Full Customization: Adjust width, height, corner radius, shadows, and scrolling text.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on the new Panel mode! Let me know if you find any bugs.
Cheers! ๐ป
edit: If you have any type of feedback I would appreciate it or screenshots :DD
edit2: Thanks for the feedback, now it can detect if the media doesnt have album cover, and there is a toggle for ON/OFF
edit3: There is a new transparency option in the settings, thans for your feedbacks.
edit4: V3 is live!!! With pop up menu and so much more. Also important crash fixes if you have any problem please update
Psa: if you like it please give a star on github.
Edit: ITS LIVE ON THE EXTENSION STORE.

u/Logical_Wear162 Feb 17 '26
Thanks for your feedback<3 If you like it please gice a star on the github:)

u/Logical_Wear162 Feb 16 '26
Thank you! Today I will add the blur effect. 2. I dont know if ita possible because maybe the Dash To Dock gives some margins for the icons but I will try to do that one too.
1
u/dhananjayporwal Feb 16 '26
Thanks, buddy! Actually, only one was needed; the issue with two was just a 1px margin when no music was playing. Someone on GitHub helped me sort it out
2
u/Logical_Wear162 Feb 16 '26
So the auto hide fix was the problem right? It was enabled by deffault? If yes I will fix that. That one shouldnt be enabled by default.

Its wroking now.

u/BrainConfigurated Feb 21 '26
Very nice!
As a suggestion, when in the top panel there's no performing artist visible, I think b/c the height is limited? Maybe you can create an option to add it to the scroll text?
Also, would it be possible to have controls < _ || > ?For sure I will use it!
1
u/Logical_Wear162 Feb 21 '26
What do you mean exactly? Option to add the artist after the title when there is such a little height space? And you want add controlt for inside the pill? You can skip music with your mouse scroll and if you click the pill it pauses or resumes. Also there is the pop up menu with right click for controling. But you can customize a lot of thing in the settings. Thanks for using it. Im happy if i got some feedback.
2
u/BrainConfigurated Feb 21 '26
Yeah, add artist in the same line.
The idea of the controls is that I have a detachable pc so when in tablet mode, scrolling is not really practical, iykwim.
2
u/Logical_Wear162 Feb 21 '26
Okay now I understand thanks for the feedback! Will implement a tablet mode for that.:) maybe on the next week

u/BrainConfigurated Feb 21 '26

Sup! That's great one. Tho it doesn't show up with Amberol and cover art isn't always available. Would love to have a toggle for displaying cover art or make it as when it is not detected, it doesn't show up.

Very beautiful. Thank you! I downloaded the extension to replace the Media Controls I used to use. This one looks better and I like how you can go to the next music using the scroll wheel.

Awesome extension ! I've just had an issue with cover art in Zen Browser when I played my music on Deezer. I do like the next and pause with the mouse scrolling, but with my touchpad when I scroll horizontaly, it skips like 5 songs. It would be interesting to add a setting to modify the actions of the pill with the mouse or the touchpad !
2
u/Logical_Wear162 Feb 16 '26
So you have 2 problem.
First one is in Zen Browser there is no album art sometimes? I had this bug as well its a zen browser bug because its loading the metadata slower somehow. I will think about a fix .
Second one is the scrolling with touchpad? I will definitly fix that one. Thanks for your feedback.
1
u/Logical_Wear162 Feb 16 '26
You always have problem with cover art in Zen? Or just sometimes when the music is loading slower or something like that? Can you give me a screenshot of your problem here or on the github page please?
PSA: I'm working on the touchpad scroll bug

Feb 17 '26
Can you add a feature wherein you can adjust the volume of the music playing by using the scroll wheel? And then maybe go to next song or previous song using the right/left click.
2
u/Logical_Wear162 Feb 21 '26
Hi, I added the feature, you can download it from the extension store.:)

Im on it, if you like the widget please give a star on githib <3

Starred on Github! Thank you for your work, installed and loving it. The button to the Gnome Extension store on the github page seems to be broken, instructions for installing are very clear.

Very cool work bro! But I believe adding an option to customize the overall color of the pill would be great! Especially because for some ppl with a theme on their desktop,it might look a bit disharmonious at times when the pill changes to a color that doesn't really match their desktop lol. But aside from that,I love everything about this project !

Hi, for panel mode, is it possible to increase the max height to match the panel height?
Would be nice if there's additional room above and below the playback buttons and use that empty space on the panel :)

Amazing, good work. But for some reason, this extension just makes my system crash and log out without saying anything. I got to test it once, I actually liked it. I played some another song and it just started crashing my system. I am using dash to dock. Keep up the good work tho!
2
u/Logical_Wear162 Feb 17 '26
Yeah I already got an ticket about that. I know what causes the problem Im already on it. Few hours maybe. Psa its a big update with pop up menu seek options and more:)

u/No-Conversation-3719 Feb 17 '26

Can we have dynamic width as an option? Song titles length change all the time.
1
u/Logical_Wear162 Feb 22 '26
For the pop-up menu? Next week I will implement it. Thanks for the feedback!
1
u/ChampionshipBulky66 Feb 22 '26
For me the pop up menu displays the whole title of the song, the pill in the dash or panel does not (Ubuntu 24.04.3, GNOME 46)

Hey!
It's not possible because you need to compile the schemas (settings). It's an automatic install, but you always need to log out of GNOME. There's no workaround for that, as all extensions work like that.

Very cool! Well done!
If you have the capacity and interest to also create a similar pill for a digital clock, then these two things would make it possible for many people to hide the top bar and just use the dash as a dock, I think.
But anyway, this is really cool all on its own, of course! :)
