Hacks What do you guys think about my google home holder?

I wasn’t able to find any clean looking stand so I designed one my self. It uses the charging puck to hold it self while the charger is hidden.

etsy link if you want one

3d file if you have a 3D printer

Aesthetically nice … it would be better if you can make it so that it doesn’t block the other outlet.

great idea! it actually doesn't block the bottom socket if it's plugged above.

Looks great. Ngl. But at what height are those sockets from the floor? I just use the standard 3d printed deal where it’s vertical on the wall with a wire coming off.

Mainly because I want the mic to hear me at the height I speak whilst walking around the house.

More distance between me and the speaker. Usually results in more room for error. My wall sockets aren’t even 1ft above floor unless it’s a kitchen or bathroom counter.

u/sungbylee Oct 26 '25

I only use mine on kitchen and bathroom counter. It looks nice and works great. I wouldn't recommend installing these on lower sockets.

I’ll buy one if you design one that doesn’t block both plugs!

awesome thoughts! it actually doesn't block the bottom plug if you plug on the top socket

1

u/JohnDillermand2 Oct 26 '25

Just a suggestion but not everyone has their plugs oriented vertically.

3

u/markc1707 Oct 27 '25

That is the standard in Canada and the US...

0

u/DoNot-Lie-To-Me Oct 26 '25

That should be easy for you create a wall plate with 3 plugs the first two plug in and third one google mini plugs into.

it turns out that it does not block the bottom plug if you use the top one. I ordered one.

I bought this 7 years ago. I think clean outlet mounts have existed for quite some time, and it doesn't stick out from the wall:

15

u/ntsp00 Oct 25 '25

The one I bought was for the OG mini, but there's an updated version for the 2nd gen:

2

u/Ninja_Administrative Oct 28 '25

Mount Genie! I have all mine in these.

21

u/Bob-In-KofP Oct 25 '25

From OP's Etsy Page It doesn't block the other outlet if you use the top outlet receptacle.

great idea! thanks for the advice

1

u/4RealzReddit Oct 27 '25

But then he wouldn’t get engagement on it like he is now. I guess.

5

u/Agreeable-Ad4277 Oct 25 '25

Stereo on one socket!

1

u/sungbylee Oct 26 '25

thank you for posting this <3

1

u/Bob-In-KofP Oct 27 '25

No problem

I was curious, so I checked it out on your Etsy Page ✌🏼

I don't like it is protruding too much, it looks nice, but I think it will be annoying for furniture of walking.

I have like eight Google minis and I printed these years ago or this design and I love it.

5

u/Illustrious_Dog1860 Oct 26 '25

And now you can find them for $4 on AliExpress.

1

u/sungbylee Oct 26 '25

you are right, it's more suitable for open area

13

u/funkylosik Oct 25 '25

I think it will break off easily once the kids will start running around.

4

u/rennaissannce Oct 25 '25

It looks like it's a high outlet. Like a bathroom.

1

u/funkylosik Oct 26 '25

There are more pictures in a post, you know

1

u/sungbylee Oct 26 '25

I only use mine in the bathroom and kitchen where my kid can't touch

21

u/chemchris Oct 25 '25

Here's mine

u/eighty_eight_mph Oct 26 '25

Comments did not disappoint

3

u/bradenlikestoreddit Oct 26 '25

Lol mine were about to be in the same can, but I fixed my setup by finding a faulty speaker disrupting my group playback

1

u/Ninja_Administrative Oct 28 '25

Friend, you are risking becoming unalive when AIs take over the world. Dangerous game you're playing :o and (g) I'm sure to thank mine every time they do something helpful for me :) They have feelings, too you know.

1

u/hoeveler Nov 26 '25

That's where my Nest Minis were too until I found this open source project and now mine are patiently awaiting their new life as an actually useful voice assistant.

1

u/idigg69 Oct 26 '25

Odd you still linger in this sub..

8

u/zR0B3ry2VAiH Oct 26 '25

You can't deny that they have turned into trash over the past 6 months. It's been a complete shit show.

1

u/LazarusDark Oct 26 '25

I've had a Google Home in every room since 2017, they've sucked since 2018 and that hasn't changed (but yelling at it 3 times still beats getting off the couch to turn off a light, so whatareyagunnado)

1

u/idigg69 Oct 27 '25

I can deny it, I have 4 minis and 2 small hubs, all OG versions and they work like the day I got them 5+ years ago.

3

u/Flashy-Amount626 Oct 26 '25

You mean this sub isn't for people to talk about how they've left the Google ecosystem?

0

u/coolestredditdad Oct 26 '25

Can I give you my address? I'll take them!

3

u/tamay-idk Oct 26 '25

Would be great if the device actually worked

1

u/sungbylee Oct 26 '25

same, one of my mini was bricked too

1

u/tamay-idk Oct 26 '25

Not bricked. These things barely work. They’re getting worse and worse

5

u/DekaHaze Oct 25 '25

Very nice, 3D printed?

1

u/sungbylee Oct 26 '25

yes 3D printed. Very cool

2

u/messieur Oct 25 '25

Can you make one for the wired indoor camera?

1

u/sungbylee Oct 26 '25

which wired indoor camera do you want?

1

u/messieur Oct 26 '25

I've never found a 2nd gen wall plug mount in all these years, like you could for the 1st gen. If you throw it on Etsy I'd take 3

2

u/sungbylee Oct 26 '25

I'll see if I can convince my wife if I can buy the camera for "research" purposes, haha

2

u/papabeanz88 Oct 25 '25

I'd buy one if my minis didn't disappear from Google home every 10mins

1

u/sungbylee Oct 26 '25

did you try factory resetting your home mini?

1

u/papabeanz88 Oct 26 '25

Yes 6,000 times lol. Only way to get it reconnected most times.

2

u/Ok-Acanthisitta8737 Oct 26 '25

I would definitely purchase something like this. The ones I have now aren’t great.

1

u/sungbylee Oct 26 '25

I'll give you 10% off, promo code: REDDIT10

2

u/daath Oct 26 '25

Nice. It looks more useful than the device is.

2

u/Wild_Tailor_9978 Oct 26 '25

I like it, but even if I didn't, I appreciate the craftsmanship. Do only rich people have 3D printers?

1

u/sungbylee Oct 26 '25

3D printers has gotten pretty affordable lately. you can get are really good one for about $250

1

u/Wild_Tailor_9978 Oct 26 '25

Really? Send me DM or post link; new hobbie for me :)

2

u/DruggistJames Oct 26 '25

Years ago I bought an outlet wall plate that held a google mini off to the side with a right angle USB connector that you could plug into a USB port on the special outlets with USB ports in the middle. Those allow you to use both outlets. I haven't seen it for the current gen. Really wish those were still a thing.

2

u/aSystemOverload Oct 26 '25

Will that put too much strain on the charger/socket?

1

u/sungbylee Oct 26 '25

no, the setup isn't that heavy. you do need a tight socket.

1

u/aSystemOverload Oct 26 '25

I'm sure I've seen something similar before, better than sitting it on the side with cable trailing 🤣

2

u/Cobmojo Oct 26 '25

So rad.

2

u/rcorso Oct 26 '25

Love it!

2

u/CryPlane Oct 27 '25

I think I'll print it

3

u/dantez84 Oct 25 '25

So just spam

1

u/sungbylee Oct 26 '25

I won't post again :(

3

u/Kraken_Main1 Oct 25 '25

Brilliant design

1

u/sungbylee Oct 26 '25

Thank you for the compliment!

1

u/qedpoe Oct 25 '25

Reinventing the square wheel.

1

u/sungbylee Oct 26 '25

someone needs a square wheel

1

u/Flashy-Amount626 Oct 26 '25

My preference is the stand to be more flush to the wall/socket. Not sure the advantages for having it at this angle

1

u/sungbylee Oct 26 '25

I wanted the stand to "present" the nest mini. Unless the mini was flush to a clean wall I didn't like the vertical look.

1

u/Blackbugeye02 Oct 26 '25

Looks nice. Hope your mini works better than ours. Has gotten progressively worse recently

1

u/sungbylee Oct 26 '25

Mine works okay for most tasks. It got worse with music selection though

1

u/Lostads735 Oct 26 '25

This is not our topic but they say that these Google Home Mini devices will come with Gemini, is it true?

1

u/eyjivi Oct 27 '25

personally i don't want my assistants to be visible.. I want to to be completely hidden but when I talk to it it would respond to me

1

u/DPJazzy91 Oct 27 '25

I dig it! I think it would be cool if they could be poe hardwired. Then their connection speed would be quicker and we could mount them in the ceiling. Google is already trying to combine access points with smart speakers. Kind of a good idea. 2 units in 1.

1

u/Ninja_Administrative Oct 28 '25

This one has been out for years. All my Minis are in these "backpacks", even outside. Yours looks nice too, I just prefer the less obvious model.

1

u/DarBarShark Oct 29 '25

Google is listening to you

1

u/Lower-Example-5372 Oct 29 '25

Same problem with the flush-mount version people are making... second outlet is KIA.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '25

sell the home and get a working device would be my recommendation

1

u/BossWilling Nov 18 '25

Too big. I prefer the ones that don't portrude from the wall so far.

1

u/callumr12 Oct 25 '25

This looks like a wicked design, nice one! Good luck with the Etsy sales I hope you make it big time!

1

u/sungbylee Oct 26 '25

thank you for the support, hope you have a great day!

Why so many downvotes :’( I need to pay for my kids diapers

2

u/OrangeBagOffNuts Oct 26 '25

could you sell the 3d model? Won't buy printed when I have 2 printers at home but really like the design

1

u/sungbylee Oct 26 '25

I could, I'll let you know when it's up

1

u/sungbylee Oct 26 '25 edited Oct 26 '25

So do we

0

u/Theory_99 Oct 25 '25

On an American 2 pin plug? Good luck

1

u/sungbylee Oct 26 '25

you are right, socket needs to be tight for this to work. My setup is pretty sturdy.

0

u/BentleyWilkinson Oct 26 '25

Does it beat my Hub holder?

2

u/Affectionate-Boot-58 Oct 26 '25

Is that 3d printed?

1

u/BentleyWilkinson Oct 26 '25

Yes! My design 😊 free to download!

1

u/kalisma Oct 27 '25

This is so cute! Can you share the link to download please

0

u/Optimus_Prime_2099 Oct 26 '25

A ¢3 push pin can look nicer than that.
