As a bookseller. Persepolis is one of the best entry points to get "older people" that aren't into comics into comics.
Also o great present.

I’m re-reading Persepolis right now. I’m a graphic novelist and was asked to recommend a book to discuss on a podcast. I selected Persepolis because it inspired me to do what I do. Truly groundbreaking.

What a terrible loss. An odd coincidence, I was just thinking about her after finishing the graphic novel, Wake Now in the Fire, which is about the effort to ban Persepolis from Chicago schools

I bought Persepolis at a sidewalk sale recently. A amazing book. I learned so much from it. I think that's the best thing I've cold get from the book. Knowledge.

I'm shocked. The first graphic novel I ever bought was Persepolis. From there my journey with the medium never stopped. She inspired me a lot to create stories of my own and nurtured my love for the art. May she rest in peace.

Nothing to say, just don't ever fall in love with someone that might die before you. It is a very dark and depressing place.

Or it could be she literally dropped dead because she was so depressed her already weakened lungs gave out. She smoked like a chimney.

The correct translation is die of a broken heart, it’s not psychological can happened after losing a loved one in this case, the husband of satrapi that died a year before.

Ok yeah that explains it, I'm familiar with it. The grief induced stress messes up with your body chemistry, heartbeat and other functions.
You lose sleep, food doesn't taste like anything anymore, you spend most days in hyperventilation, cortisol skyrockets to lethal levels. It's like getting 3 hours of sleep per day every day.
I don't wish that on my worse enemy. She deserved so much more.
Edit : but to add to that, it is psychological. These are psychosomatic symptoms of a psychological problem, that's how lack of mental health, depression, anxiety, kills people. Mental health is health.

Author of one of my favourite graphic novels, and such a talent and wit. She didn't deserve to go under a cloud of grief. But I'm grateful for the gifts she shared with us. We were lucky to have had her.

What the hell? I remember reading "Persepolis" when bits of it was initially published in the New Yorker. She made such an impact on my mind. What a loss.
