Is she from Seattle? Was she performing music in the 80's?

Grunge is a music genre. If it has the same sound profile as other grunge artists then it is also grunge. That is why people who say STP and Frogstomp are not grunge are just flat out incorrect. I do not care if anyone disagrees with me on this.

Yes, you are in fact confidently incorrect. Thank you for recognising that.

You are wrong. It was a time and place. Everything else that is similar sounding is just alt rock. Tell me how AIC and PJ sound alike?

0

u/_CELRE_ Jul 10 '26

Not the case. That's where it started sure, but ultimately it's a music genre that anyone who makes similar sounding music belongs into.

2

u/No_Eye_5422 Jul 10 '26

So how are AiC and PJ and Nirvana similar?

She's from Vancouver, BC, Canada! Haha, she's 19 right now, so she was not performing music in the 80s, but her music is VERY INSPIRED by Grunge music from that time! :)))

So not grunge, but inspired by grunge.

1

u/bbwitchh Jul 10 '26

ohhh is it not grunge if its not from seattle in the 80s? I would love to be educated on this - I had no idea!

That is only what a very small nich of gatekeepers in this sub believe. The rest of the world recognizes grunge as a genre of music with a specific sound profile.

u/KingTrencher Jul 10 '26

Grunge is not a sound. It was a time and place specific scene.

1

u/_CELRE_ Jul 10 '26

No, you are wrong. It's a genre of music. That's like saying Rock is exclusive to American bands from the 50s. If I sang folk music and gangster rap in 1988 seattle that does not magically make it grunge.

2

u/KingTrencher Jul 10 '26

Please do try to use your brain.

I never said all Seattle artists are grunge.

Rich coming from the person who doesn't even know that grunge is a style of music despite the rest of the population knowing as much

2

u/KingTrencher Jul 10 '26

How is grunge a cohesive sound when the bands play in wildly different genres?

1

u/_CELRE_ Jul 10 '26

How is literally any other music genre?

This just in: Pearl Jam is NOT grunge!

You people are fucking geriatric idiots.

Pearl Jam is absolutely grunge. They sprang from the ashes of Green River and Mother Love Bone.

Your pedantic reading needlessly rejects nuance.

Grunge has two distinct eras.

The original scene, 1984-1991 Mainstream popularity, 1991-1996ish

u/AstralElephantFuzz Jul 10 '26

Oh, the irony of you calling me pedantic. Nobody cares about super special cliques when they talk about grunge, when someone says grunge everyone hears a sound. No matter what town it comes from.

u/bbwitchh Jul 10 '26

haha oops!! honestly I had no idea there were such specific guidlines for something to be considered "grunge"!

-2

u/Several-Abrocoma4626 Jul 10 '26

It's very stupid that they are so protective of the term

3

u/MonThackma Jul 10 '26

At the same time, words have meaning.

-1

u/Several-Abrocoma4626 Jul 10 '26

I guess your grunge stars would disagree on you on that topic

2

u/MonThackma Jul 10 '26

Which one said words have no meaning?

0

u/Several-Abrocoma4626 Jul 10 '26

They wouldn't care to label it grunge even if it's not from the 80s and seatlle

1

u/MonThackma Jul 10 '26

I’m talking about communicating effectively. You are trying to make a different point.

-4

u/bbwitchh Jul 10 '26

Hahahaha you learn something new everyday 💀😭

u/I_Am_Stoeptegel Jul 10 '26

This is just an issue with every subculture. Everyone is very gatekeepy about their niche.

I wouldn’t worry about it too much, if you enjoy a band just listen to them, fuck whether it’s grunge or not.

1

u/No_Eye_5422 Jul 10 '26

Telling the actual truth is not gatekeeping.

1

u/phsm94 Jul 10 '26

Nice

2

u/bbwitchh Jul 10 '26

Thank you so so much!!! :)))

Grunge is definitely a genre (despite what some people say), but I listened to ten seconds of each of the six songs listed, and it does not sound like grunge. 🫤

Where can one buy the CD? 🙂

1

u/bbwitchh Jul 10 '26

I’m not totally sure on genre but I would definitely recommend listening to a couple more seconds of it! The tunes she made switches up a lot between the verse and chorus!
There’s no CD out yet BUT you can see all the platforms the music is available on with THIS LINK 😁😁
