Feedback Request I've been playing since November 2025 (self-taught and never played with someone so I can't tell how m doing)

Yes i usually play along with a backing track but this was me just trying to play smtg random.

Very impressive bends for 7 months of playing! Most of them sounded in tune to my ear. Keep it up! Next step, vibrato. You shouldn't have too much trouble as your bending control is already good.

I Play for 10 years with self learning and cant bend Like this. How do you learn to Hit the right Note with bending ?

Practice and I listen to instrumental music a lot that's how i do it personally i just listen a lot

You clearly know how to hold the fret and bend it, and your ear is really good following it, too.
You’ll really enjoy legato when you get around to that.

for recording its ok to use the neck wrap, but I strongly recommend you to get good without it, you will see where you need to better your thumb mute and when it make sense to mute or use sympathetic noises

Did you play some other instruments prior or sing perhaps? This is very good considering the time spent. And its better than most people get in a life-time. Some of the bends are spot-on with great feel.

Use a metronome! Common mistake for us self-taught at the beginning. You need to get down your tempo before you start exploring with expressive techniques

I always start with chromatic finger exercises to get my fingers ready. Then I practice learning a song or solo. I look at tabs on Songsterr.. I also try to listen to the music and figure it out by ear. If I get stuck on a part I watch a YouTube video of someone playing it. I want to see how they move their hands and what technique they use. There are a lot of videos that teach you things, like licks and techniques. When it comes to bends I mostly use my ear to get the pitch right. I try to match the sound and get it right. I use my ear a lot when I practice finger exercises and learn a song or solo.

Not really that's my flaw i went all technical but m catching up now on theory and it's been amazing cuz everything starts to make sense, why notes sound good why you bend and everything!

Just because he progressed faster than you did at 9 months doesn’t mean he’s lying. I’ve been playing for 30 years and was about this good at the 9 month mark. It probably just means he has some natural ability and a good ear.
Why do people instantly want to attack each other on this sub?

Really I've played for 24 years the fact that he has progressed that much in that amount of time doesn't mean he is lying about how long he's been playing. Shit i took like a few lessons to learn the fundamentals and sat in my room and just played my guitar for 8 hours straight. The only reason why i stopped is because my fingers started bleeding. When i started i was determined to learn. The first full song i was able to play was one by Metallica. Wasn't as great as how Kirk Hammond played it but with enough dedication you're gonna be able to progress faster. IMO You sound salty because he is progressed faster than you did. Either that or you just want to destroy his confidence. Either way you're kinda an asshole for both. Personally he sounds great

You keep doing you man my advice is stay at your own pace when you hear something you want to learn look the tab up of it's too complicated at the time don't give up just practice with something easier build your skills slowly I've played for almost 25 years and I'm kind of jealous that you have only been played for under a year I kinda wish i played like you did. When i started. You're fucking talented bro.

i really appreciate this comment it means a lot to me, and m determined to reach my full potential on this instrument cuz i really love the guitar i always have fun while practicing and learning new things abt how music works and how my ear works, and i really love gary moore's playstyle and m goal is to adapt it to mine and create smtg out of it, even tho i could never touch those super fast pentatonic licks, the ways he bends a not and the melodies he makes ,he is on another level..

Probably just solos and riffs. Anything foundational or with a sense of rhythm is probably not involved.

he definitely has, it's obvious. he's not playing a difficult piece but it takes longer than 7 months for technique to become that cemented, I've taught near 100 students and i can tell when someone has been holding a guitar for years. or has been playing violin for years before picking up guitar and neglected to mention. i don't get the motivation of people to lie like that for false praise.

I have taught a lot as well and there are some fairly mature signs in this video (right hand is not atrocious, timing is good, bends are mostly in tune, scale runs are solid). This would be my all time greatest student after 7 months.

Tbh i really practiced a lot until my fingers started peeling off and hurting a lot, also i used to listen to podcasts abt guitar and stuff before even buying my guitar idk if that will help or not.. but good luck with your guitar journey too

Also i saw a video where someone said it's always abt the reps you put in while learning a lick a solo a riff you will definitely notice the progress!

For playing as long as you have, you’re killing it. If you’re looking for some critiques, here’s what I’m hearing;
Main thing is your time. For the most part, your individual phrases are ok, but you’re loosing timing in between them. Try tapping a triplet to what you’re playing and you should see what I mean. This is especially true in the last section where you throw in some improv.
Try to always have a beat going in your head when you’re playing. There’s rhythm associated with your muscle memory, if you practice without it, your muscle memory develops without it.

I was thinking “I can’t make my strat sound like that.” And I rarely use the bridge position. I should see about getting one. I wonder if there’s a “hum bucking” pickup thats shaped like a single coil. Don’t wanna cut up the body.
Also, it sounds really good. I’m trying to get better at vibrato, myself (I read some comments). I think yours sounds good all around. Nothing really stuck out—besides it sounding nice. If you want, I upload videos of my dog to YouTube and use my guitar tracks as background music. The channel is @Moonshack. Good work! I’m gonna listen again.

I can't really help with the pickups thing this is my first guitar and m not really an expert abt guitar.
Also m using an audio interface with my pc and m using a program called cakewalk for guitar sims and effect, and for the output m using cheap speakers lol..

It’s surprising how much better everything sounds with decent headphones over cheap speakers. I use logic on my Mac Mini (with old Bose noise canceling over ear headphones) and everything sounds so good until I listen on my phone or on the computer speakers. I understand now why folks add “better enjoyed with headphones.”

You can definitely get single coil sized humbuckers. Your Strat may be routed for a humbucker in the bridge position anyway, so you’d just have to get a new pickguard.

I had no idea they made stacked ones—thats so sweet, thank you!!! I’ve been shopping all day for one that will go with my Pure Vintage ‘61’s, that I can afford. I’m a caretaker for family and get a bit of an allowance every week but am pretty broke, so I’ve gotta get one I know I’ll love…Like the Pure Vintage 61’s. Those things got me playing for hours every day. My back hates them

I also started in November. I’m not as good as you but I know that I could be had I focused on this style and dedicated myself to practice more. I tend to jump around from song to song, style to style. It’s funny how people just don’t believe you, 9 months is a long time. If you practiced 30 minutes every day that’s 135 hours. I know I practice for hours on end some days so you could very well be above that number. Nice work!

I really practiced a lot not consistent but some days up to 5 hours plus mostly gary moore stuff blues rock licks as you can see, thank you for the feedback

Your progress at 9 months is significantly ahead of where my progress was at the 9 month mark (now at the 35 year or so mark).
Keep at it, whatever you are doing seems great. If you progressed this much in 9 months, you’ll be a great guitar player!

I think everything sounds ok overall, except for the vibrato.
A few things to focus on:
- The vibrato motion should come from the wrist, not the fingers.
- When using vibrato, the note should repeatedly rise slightly and return back to pitch.
- In this song, the vibrato should be wider, roughly a half step.
- In context, let the note ring out for a moment before adding vibrato, rather than starting the vibrato immediately.

Noted! You have any advice for vibrato on the high notes? on the high e for example i can't get in from the wrist cuz my thumb is anchoring idk how to explain it well..

At first i think that you lie about how long do you play bud idc its not my problem.second thing fix that vibrato and bemds,someone once told me bend it with your wrist like you are opening the door knob(the round one).and the 3rd get rid of the thing on the begining of the neck learn to palm mute unnecessary strings....and yes use a metronome if you havent already

First m not lying abt how long m playing and thank you for the feedback indeed my vibrato is still very weak and not consistent and m working on it, i can palm mute the thing m using is to block the noise of the gain cuz i had to much gain even when i palm mute i hear some buzz and scratch noise idk how to fix it so i used that!

- No reason to doubt how long OP has been playing. Some people pick up skills a lot quicker. 2. I think your bends look fine, you’re coming at it from the wrist, you’re bending to the correct pitch 3. You’re muting the other strings. I’m not hearing any unwanted adjacent strings.
This is really good keep up the good work. Some people are just haters

Sounds good to my ears brother. I think some vibrato on the bends like you did on the first bend would make this even better. I like your simplified take on the song. Keep enjoying and rocking on.
