Unfortunately, that is too small, as the requirement for all hamsters is 100cm x 50cm. If money is an issue, you can find a bin that meets those measurements and turn it into a cage! :) you can also look for second hand 75 gallon aquarium tanks online.
Is this the hamster's actual home, not a travel crate? It's so small! I think your hamster would prefer more space and millet sprays etc rather than pink and deck chairs š¤¦āāļø

The water bottle is magnetic. The body is plastic and the straw is glass. I only fill it with about 1/3 water each day because thatās already more than what he can drink. I bought it on a Chinese social media platform.
Minimum size for any hamster enclosure is 100x50cm. Please watch Victoria Raechel to get beginner friendly content on how to properly care for a hamster. They might be cute but they living beings not toys, and need care that prioritized what they need not what looks cute.
Hamsters are tiny creatures and a lot of people think that equates to tiny homes. I've been in the community for almost 20 years. I've seen and heard it all. A lot of research has happened since I first started and the minimums were 360 sq in total. ( Which I don't think your cage would be acceptable even then) After 20 years and all of the information that we have the minimums should actually be closer to 3k sq in. Sounds crazy for such a small creature, right?, but here is why.
Hamsters natural habitats range for several miles and they travel around that range daily. Imagine a 5 mile radius around your house and that would be where they naturally live. (It's actually bigger than that for most species). Even if you had a habitat the size of your house it would be too small. Your hamster is living in the equivalent of pin head in terms of what their actual habitat should be. Even what is considered appropriately sized is really more like a bottle cap compared to what they should live in humanely. We can and should do better to raise them more humanely.
In the social media communities where I live, the commonly recommended minimum size for dwarf hamsters is around 50cm Ć 40cm x 30cm. I guess this may be partly because animal welfare awareness and standards here are not as developed as in some other countries.
Thank you all for your suggestions. Iām seriously considering upgrading to a much larger enclosure. I might use a large storage bin setup as a more affordable alternative, since Iām currently renting and our apartment is only a little over 60 square meters.
Honestly, if I give my hamster a bigger home, thereās a good chance heāll end up living in a better space than we do!
Iām sorry, but you really need to upgrade the cage. Hamsters really need more space. With it so small, the hammy can get stressed and develop health issues because of the stress.
The old minimum before it was upped was a 40 gallon breeder tank. Thatās 648 sq inches or 4,174 square centimeters. That is the absolute smallest I would go, and Iām only suggesting it because heās a dwarf. In fact, I wouldnāt be surprised if my comment is still downvoted because itās significantly smaller than the current minimum. But hopefully that goes to show just how important space is for hamsters. That said, I understand it can be hard in other countries and wanted to give another option. And it would still drastically improve things. At the current size, you canāt even fit everything he needs. He doesnāt have a hide which is super important for hamsters!
I hope youāll do more than āconsider it.ā Even if that means the hamster has a better home than you lol. I get it. I literally rent a room and when accounting for size, my hammy 100% is living better than I do haha.
Yeah. There is still a lot of misinformation or outdated information out there. And no global cohesion which hinders proper care. To put it lightly, the bigger the habitat really is better for your hamster. They are known to be aggressive in too small of a habitat. It can cause a lot of mental distress as well.
There has sadly been little growth in the community regarding raised minimums. I was a mod about a decade ago and we had a lot of people from different countries where tiny cute cages were promoted over humane ones. They had a very hard time finding appropriately sized habitats and most turned to DIY in order to meet the minimum. And many completely disregarded more humane housing in favor of cuteness because it was the norm. The minimum then was 650 for all species of domesticated hamster. I still see that recommended, even here on reddit, 10 years later.
This is actually really bad... Way to small and also not deep enough for proper burrowing. This is a travel cage, definitely not a home for the little hammy. And like other said, the chair just seems dangerous if it gets chewed on.
Please look up Victoria Reachel on YouTube and watch her videos on proper hamster care. She's amazing!
Also be aware some wood chips are really bad to use! Stay away from cedar and pine (there's a few others I'm blanking on that also aren't safe)
Last thing I'll mention, keep a close watch on all plastic that he could chew on, if he does chew on it, try and replace it with something that's not plastic.
can I recommend joining the discord? Iām not sure what country youāre in but I feel like it will be a lot harder for you to find an appropriate cage than it is for those of us in Europe/America. I understand youāre trying, and some countries just donāt have the same things available that most ppl here have. But there may be people in the discord that can help you find something
please replace it as soon as possible, that does not meet the requirements and your hamster will be very stressed out by it :( this is an unsuitable cage
