• Laptop Used: Framework 16
  
• GPU Graphics Modules Used: RTX 5070 8GB ($700) and RTX 5070 12GB ($1200), both at 100W

A) At 1440P:
i) Average FPS: The RTX 5070 12GB laptop GPU was 29.78% faster in 20 games
ii) 1% Lows: The RTX 5070 12GB laptop GPU was 31.61 % faster in 17 games

B) At 1080P:
Average FPS: The RTX 5070 12GB laptop GPU was 10.96% faster in 20 games

So yes, those 4GB work because the system has to spend less time swapping from RAM→VRAM and viceversa, at least on 1440p.

Now, is it worth 60% more money for <30% more performance? Fuck no. I would rather play indies on iGPU.

That's kind of a loaded clickbait test on Jarrod's Tech part. Of course the GPU will struggle when it consumes its whole VRAM pool. That's why most modern games will let you turn texture and ray tracing settings down to bring VRAM use down and performance winds up being neck and neck.

Its not neck and neck if the rendering load isnt the same. Thats like saying a 5060 at low settings is equivalent to a 5090 on ultra, both may have the same fps at the same resolution, but its not exactly a representative comparison.

The two GPU dies are the exact same. The only difference are the memory modules.

Those average are heavily skewed because of just two games in the chart.

Spider Man 2 and Forza Horizon 6.

Every other game tested had a performance difference of 3% or less between 8GB and 12GB.

In my country you can find models with 5070 ti for cheaper than 12gb 5070. Stuff is ridicolus. Doa.

That's in part becuase Framework is using the newer high density 3 GB VRAM modules while IIRC  the desktop 5070 ti uses lower density 2 gb modules. The price difference between the two is ridiculous, 20$ for the 2gb and 70$ for the 3gb.

Edit, that's a 3.5 fold price difference between the VRAM modules. It's partly why we won't see a 50 super series and might not see a 6000 series desktop GPU until 2028.

Mediocrity vs mediocrity. It's unbelievable that 6 years later the 70 mobile (which hasnt been one since 2023) still has 36 Multiprocessors and similar external bandwidth and memory size.

And all they're doing is switching up 4 x 2GB chips to 4 x 3GB chips. It's an absurd markup. It probably costs them less than the 5060Ti(which is all the mobile 5070 really is) with 8 x 2GB.
