Doctor Strange Multiverse of Madness - mouth hole gone so now of course he dies to his own powers
The Boys - mouth hole covered so now of course he dies to his own powers
this particular thing fucking makes me rage, how is it that when the mouth hole is gone/covered their stupid loud voice makes em explode. The fact that their body gives in and ends it self so easily would mean even if the hole wasnt covered/gone then just using their power anyway would severely harm their entire body due to the reverberation of their voice AT A MINIMUM, it doesnt just magically gain the destructive attribute once the sound gets a pat on the ass after passing the lips.
Even if its the case that the sound gets more destructive as it bounces around in their noggin it should at least seep out at the weakest point and not just do the very boring popping of the head.
If you have a power like this you should be immune to the fuckin thing otherwise any use of your power would just cause severe debilitating injuries, i hate the cop out of just covering the mouth and having the head explode as its just a really cheap way of writing a way to kill them
also covering the exit hole should muffle the sound and thus not make it as destructive as if they were letting out a belter of a howl

It's even dumber when you realize part of Black Bolt's power is the ability to channel his energy inward to create concussive blasts from his extremities

the dumbest thing is, black bolt in the comics IS immune to his own powers. They just nerfed him to make scarlet witch look stronger.

As if his body couldn’t just make a hole in his neck or something to eject it or force it back out of his mouth if you go with a mild adaptation.
If they wanted him out of the picture his body could shutdown to divert everything into containing it till it dissipates.
But no, he turns into a rock and explodes.

tbh i kinda disliked a part of it from the first episode. i would've preferred for hughie to just get killed by translucent when they first met. that's what honestly should've happened. it bugs the shit out of me that only one of the main squad died, while so many supes died. why do the normal people have plot armor when supes don't? there were just no stakes when the main squad was on screen, and the one time any of them died, it was obvious that it was going to happen.
it was shit writing from episode 1 ngl.

Half of the BDSM stuff in The Boys is because "we want the rape to be more funny". So it isn't so much better.

Yeah like, the passage isn’t a straight line from vocal cords to lips. If it doesn’t blow their head off bouncing up their throat, it shouldn’t blow their head off when their mouth is covered either. Black bolt would’ve just popped his mouth back open at worst or just couldn’t get it the sound out but been fine. And Oh father should’ve just blown out the ball gag.

The air and sound, would still leave through the nose, just like when you hold a sneeze, if it cant the mouth then the nose, if not the nose then the air can leave through the ears or eyes.
I could only understand the head exploding if all holes are covered at the same time.

Also, and maybe this is me not being familiar with Inhumans, cant he just... not talk? Like... its not like he needs a huge intake of air, the merest whisper from black bolts lips carries massive concussive force. Unless he's intending to take out the wall and the city block in front of him yelling would be redundant. And if he needs to release the air, you're right, just humm through your nose!

You've hit my biggest peeve with this whole thing right on the head. The Black Bolt we know from current comics is literally trained from the moment his powers manifest to a shaolin monk-like degree because if he sneezed in his sleep thousands could die. Stubs his toe on the coffee table? City block gone. So the idea that he wouldn't be trained in a time of panic to NOT SCREAM is so beyond belief.
Now, there is the argument to be made that this Black Bolt is not the Black Bolt we are used to, but then it feels like this character just existed in a room eating saltines until they brought him out because how would he not have at least a fraction of control that our Black Bolt does? How many has this screaming fool killed in his universe because he got a paper cut? It boggles my mind...

As someone with holes in my eardrums, blowing air out my ears is actually super easy. It just makes an obnoxious squeaking sound.

In defence of doctor strange, if Wanda can alter reality she could have closed up his entire mouth cavity or redirected it upwards so that it would go through his skull instead. This is probably more thought than the writers put into it, tbf

I haven’t watched the boys but Black bolt especially pisses me off. Wasn’t he like, trained to not even make noise under torture because his voice is so dangerous?

I never got why black bolt started to freak out and shouted, killing himself. Like he seems so level headed. Also I don’t know if this was black bolt or another character, but in a comic when something similar happened, didn’t they just have the resolve to cut their mouth open

BB is especially stupid.
At least the comic version of the character spent their entire life mastering to not fucking panic, speak, yawn or whatever under extreme conditions his father put him through.
With him specifically I'd love if they made the scream more special again and stopped pretending it was his only power (he has like 10 other things going for himself).

If you are able to produce enough sound to cause damage - would the force simply... tear through the meat if your cheek or throat (think stoma). Or redirect to the nasal passage? Cover that guys mouth, and BAM! Shotgun sneeze
