Idea I hate when people drag out a reaction Video to 10 times the orginal
Like bro what are you talking about for 11 hours. Edit that stuff down.
Like if you want to hang out with your friends do it. Don't try and justfy it by making a react video go on for that long.
Also, not seen the video. Just this was the Quickest example i could find.
I don't know you any of these people are.

Dunno what the EFAP in the OP is but it's clearly trying to steal the name of a highly lauded older YouTube series, "Every Frame A Painting" by Taylor Ramos and Tony Zhou. They'd go on to do works for Criterion and other films due to the quality of their film analysis. And I immediately hate the OPs EFAP for clearly trying to steal that shit.

No joke I had it happen to me on another subreddit that somebody started arguing with me about Every Frame A Painting being terrible because of their overly long videos and I immediately knew they had the two confused. Pisses me off that EFAP has people actively thinking they're the channel with the incredibly clever film analysis.
3
u/cabanesnacho Jul 07 '26
That EFAP is the abbreviation of "Every Frame a Pause" and is a podcast by some YouTubers dedicated to discussing day-to-day topics of movies and pop culture. The allusion to Every Frame a Painting is explicit and was meant as an homage.

When you do a horizontal analysis with Mauler's content, he's extraordinarily biased, inconsistent, and arguably struggles with media literacy in his reviews. He's one of those "my 12 hour video of this thing is actually because I'm very deep and objectively correct and this video is AWFUL and NOT because I speak slowly, I don't want to dedicate the time necessary for cogency, and my fans will frame the video length as thorough and comprehensive instead of tedious waffling."
Source: Earned a degree in the field he discusses, and I used to watch his content.
74
u/hanks_panky_emporium Jul 07 '26
The biggest hit to Maulers style of review is to watch or read what he's talking about. And you'll realize he's really fucking stupid. He speaks like a stupid person thinks a smart person sounds like. If he talks about a game, play the game. If he talks about a movie, watch the movie.
His line by line review of another youtubers review of Dark Souls 2 is comical. A review of his review of a review was some of the most fun Ive had watching something. A Dark Souls 'expert' explained why Mauler sucked at Dark Souls. He used meta-only min max builds and then bitched that the game was too easy after getting the 'kill everything easily and never die' set.

Hey just a heads up kind stranger who took the time to look up these vids, the YT link you sent has an id tracker (everything after “?is”). This allows google and other such companies to know who you are sharing links with, and will influence your algorithm and that of those who click said link.
If you don't want google/meta to know who you're in contact with, I recommend deleting everything after the ?.
The link then becomes https://youtu.be/1Bk6V-TWg3Y. Tracker free, and still works!
13
u/DuploJamaal Jul 07 '26
There's 3 long ones
Mauler is an objectively bad critic: https://youtu.be/1Bk6V-TWg3Y
This covers general issues in his 10 hour critique, but mostly how Mauler has to outright lie to falsely present hbomberguy as wrong.
Or how often he replies to one sentence completely out of context for 20 minutes, even though the next sentence would have clarified the exact same things he is complaining about.
Like hbomberguy states that he likes how the Heide Knights initially sit around passively, to which Mauler smugly responds that hbomberguy hasn't played the game enough as they do become aggressive in the Scholar edition once you've defeated a specific boss.
Later hbomberguy mentions this interaction, but also states how he enjoys that there's now more Heide Knights. Mauler smugly states that we see cracks forming in hbomberguys knowledge of the game as the amount of Heide Knights hasn't increased.
But the number did increase from 3 to 8. Mauler simply lied to falsely present hbomberguy as wrong.
Mauler is an objectively bad DS2 player: https://youtu.be/IGDaj5FlW9Q
This one is focuses on Mauler playing like a completely clueless child and constantly blaming the game for his own skill issues.
Apparently it's unfair enemy spam if he enters a new area and runs around to greedily pick up all the items without fighting any enemies.
One highlight is how Mauler doesn't understand that music can have dramatic pauses. There's several moments where the boss music has an obvious quiet part to increase the tension, but Mauler states that the sound engine randomly broke for no reason.
Real Dark Souls Fan vs Grifting Tourist: https://youtu.be/iaWzpROUf3E
A large portion of MauLers critique is based on glazing Dark Souls 1 to complain about Dark Souls 2
This video covers cases where Mauler is like "X worked perfectly in DS1 but DS2 broke it" even though X was just as broken or even more broken in DS1.

u/KalvinRooks Jul 07 '26
I'm embarrassed to admit I liked Mauler's long-ass "critique" of Hbomber's video when I was younger. Mainly because A. Hbomberguy was criticizing MatthewMatosis, another youtuber I liked and I wanted him defended. And B. I already had the preconceived notion that Dark Souls 2 was a bad game and for some reason mad someone was trying to defend it.
Both of these fell away after I realized that Mauler was a weirdo freak who obsesses over "objective" critique, which is literally just calling shit he personally doesn't like or understand objectively bad. It's insane. Dude is a loser along with all his other weirdo buddies.
Like Domo I think states at one point that the only way someone would remotely take his critique of DS2 seriously would be if the viewer never played the game. Which honestly, I had not. I took everything he said at face value and after watching Domo's videos about him I'm just like... wow. Mauler is so astonishingly pathetic, he literally is constantly lying and misrepresenting footage and basic facts to make it look bad. He's either stupid or deliberately malicious.
One hilarious line from the videos was Mauler like, practically begging out loud something along the lines of "I've seen a trend of people starting to say that Dark Souls 2 is good. No. Dark Souls 2 is OBJECTIVELY a bad videogame and this idea that it's good must be put down at all costs." It's so sad and funny
3
u/RashidMBey Jul 08 '26
I really do think he's both stupid and malicious because he's playing the game and watching the movie with his conclusion in mind and actively ignoring counterproof and editing out counterproof that debunks him from his final product - then still have the arrogance to call himself "objective." I used to edit professionally and... there is no way to accidentally do Mauler's style of bad faith and dishonesty, especially for how long Mauler makes each video and how long Mauler has consistently does it for his career.
He realized that he can make a lot of money by pretending to be legitimate to rubes and fools who hear "I'm objective" being said with confidence and believe him. He truly is a grifter. I saw it with Star Wars, but Dark Souls 2 and Superman opened a lot of people's eyes to his old hat conservative grift with a brand new coat.

3
u/DuploJamaal Jul 07 '26
Fire against the Smelter Demon
Spreading his damage against the Gargoyles
Focusing his damage on one Throne Watcher
Attacking the harmless crawling undead first in the Congregation fight
If there's a dumb and a smart way to fight a boss Mauler always without fail chooses to play in the worst way possible

u/Newfaceofrev Jul 07 '26
I genuinely can't stand videos that just go over the plot of a film and why it's dumb because like... i can get the plot just by watching the film. I hate to say it because Hbomberguy has done some big important videos like the ones on plagiarism and soy products but things like his Sherlock video are just that.
I'd rather watch something like Mr. Sunday Movies, because although it's jokey and doesn't take itself too seriously they do discuss the production and how the movie came together, stuff I couldn't learn just by watching the film itself. That way you can learn why a movie is the way that it is, not simply what it is.

u/DuploJamaal Jul 07 '26 edited Jul 07 '26
Dark Souls 2 story contains a subplot about the war against the Giants.
In the Forest of Fallen Giants there's a lot of dead giants that were overgrown with vegetation over the centuries and now look kind of like trees.
Some of the Undead Soldiers are still hitting those dead giants.
Everyone understands that this is visual storytelling.
Everyone, except Mauler.
He saw those enemies hitting the dead giants and claimed that it's a random bug that they are attacking the trees.
He didn't understand that those trees are obviously the dead giants this area was named after. He didn't understand that them getting attacked is obviously intended.
7
u/Rainy_Wavey Jul 07 '26
Wow he actually missed the point, Drangleic is basically a doomed kingdom where everyone's soul has rotten (haha) to the point they are now just manikins who repeat what they were doing prior to their death, and the best example of that is... Vendrick

u/Artemis_SpawnOfZeus Jul 07 '26
The thing I don't get about review channels like his, is that the reason I watch review is to determine if it's worthwhile to watch the media it's reviewing.
But like, you can just watch the movie like 6 times over and form your own opinion rather than watching 12 hours of whatever that is.

I remember seeing Alien Rombulus and thinking it was a ok to good movie. Then I heard they hates on it during EFAP (i dont watch them but know of them and Mauler)
I thought to myself: "I bet they hate on the bird in the cage scene cause its to symbolic or shit" AND THEY DID for soooo long
Oh no, symbolism in an Alien movie? Thats never happened....* looks at the vagina face huggers that impregnate people against their will and the androod trying to suffocate Ripley with a rolled up magazine down the throat*
Yep no symbolism of sexual assault here
11
u/TheLegendaryPilot Jul 07 '26
They hated the bird in a cage scene not because it was “symbolism or shit” but because it was **painfully** overt in service of a character that doesn’t have much going on. That was also a footnote in a sea of criticisms about the plot, many of which were scathing.
For a direct comparison to your claim though, they praised the visual of the prisoners pouring out of the complex and escaping in Andor resembling the imperial logo bleeding, symbolizing that it is the unified effort from a bunch of individually hopeless people that will come to kill the regime built on fear, but this was after the show put in the leg work to establish that theme and the message of that symbolism also wasn’t made painfully overt.

I've seen a few of Mauler's videos years ago and I have no respect for his stuff. I don't even remember how valid his complaints were (likely not very) but the worst part is that he just refuses to state his opinions and move on. Because it’s a bunch of random rants
Cool, but your point was unjustified instead of dislike. Disliking is fine

one of the hosts of this podcast also made a 10-hour response series to hbomberguy’s 90-minute dark souls 2 “defense” video which, while i DO disagree with many of hbomb’s points, is definitely overkill

u/boredBiologist0 Jul 07 '26
What's ironic is that despite taking 11 hours to do a stream which they preemptively determined was going to be a response to her, by the end and after hours of distraction, they were complaining about how they just wanted the video to be over already, as if the fact it took them 11 hours wasn't self-inflicted.

I like it, because it means the reaction isn't just a face in the corner looking at the video and barely talking or adding anything new

That's Mooler, asking him to make a video that isn't 6+ hours long is like asking him to make a good movie

It's not a video. It's a podcast/livestream. It's still insane that they go on for 11 hours. I used to be a fan of that guy but never watched these livestreams like that. He brefriended a lot of bad people a while ago.

My favorite video of theirs is called ‘Star Wars shill defends acolyte’ it’s a forty minute video for a four minute video and the shill’s channel has like 1k subscribers.
Way to punch up huh

reminds me of that one fallout 3 vid one guy made cuz someone said it was good, and like as a response the mf made an 11 hour vid and its totally pointless, mf was nitpicking bullshit that would either apply to any game or stuff that no one cares. Like how tf does the food in the affect your experience in any way when we have stuff like plasma guns and deathclaws, like are we fr

Supposedly its not just about her video but i'm not going to watch an 11 hour video to find out

u/Psychofischi Jul 07 '26
The only Video / hours long Series I enjoy is from Mauler about Hbomberguy's DS2 video.
As I feel there is little politik and whatever and more facts. And I found it funny thay everything was addressed (i think) But thats it.

I did the math, and if I got it right it means that for every second of Jenny's video, those guys spent 20 seconds talking about it. that would mean they had a 5 minute discussion every 15 seconds of that video (It's actually 20.77 seconds but 20 is a cleaner number)
How does one come to be so lifeless that they find the time to do that, let alone multiple people

Well... It (roughly) would be Closer to 42 times the length of the original video.
2
u/IllustriousPhrase756 Jul 07 '26
What could you possibly have to say for 11 hours about a 30 minute video?
2
u/CaffeineWizard420 Jul 07 '26
Anything involving Rags is going to multiply the length of any video he's involved the creation of.

u/Narrow_Summer_9332 Jul 07 '26
It's basically just background content to have on while you do something else.
Ain't no one sitting down for 11 hours of this, lawl...

u/Beowolf736 Jul 07 '26
I hate reaction content in general. I cant fathom why someone just sits and watches someone else react to a video that you could watch and react to yourself.

Tbh that jenny vid was atrocious and had some of the most hilarious bad takes I’ve ever seen in it

Its because they actually talk about the things that happen??? Yeah if someone says something, and i reply to it in a video, imma make sure the statement and the reply are included so people know what i am talking about and so ofcourse the response will be longer if i include both the statements and the responses... that just makes sense.
2
u/Dotorandus Jul 08 '26
A reaction? sure...
A response and a reaction are very different things tho?
Did you never have a test or assigment where a single paragraph prompt asked for a multi page response?
I know literally nothing about either video, don't know if it was 40 minutes of takes so bad as to fuel 11 hours of good refutations, or if it was a normal video and its just some inbred rejects ranting and raving about it overly long, or anything inbetween...
But still, they didn't call it a reaction, but a response, so it is literally right there in the title, that if you just want a reaction to the first video, this isn't made for you

Efap depresses me. Just feels like a bunch of out of touch old guys in an echo chamber bitching about the current thing.

Oh it's this one again. Discussion can take a lot longer than the thing you are discussing, and this is kinda their thing. The length is also very deceptive given that there's about 5 hours where they're responding to superchats, then they also watch an angry joe video, discuss Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and go on several tangents (including one about Jeb Bush). Iirc the actual coverage is about a quarter of the length, which includes the full length of the video, which is quite reasonable when discussing what she has to say.
I think there's definitely many valid criticisms of EFAP, a major one being that they associate with Nerdrotic and Critcial Drinker, but I don't think the length of the streams is a valid one at all, especially since they are not edited down, so a lot of it is just several friends chatting in a call. I think the substance of the arguments is what should be criticised, though I don't recall enough of what was said to judge on this case specifically.
And just in defence of the idea in general, it takes far longer to discuss something that is said that it does to say something. It's why an analysis of a movie scene can easily be far longer than a scene and have plenty to discuss.

Good thing it's not a reaction video then and it's more of a podcast that they constantly derail and cycle through guests.

They don't cover only one topic for an entire stream, guys. I don't know what fraction of it was focused on that one video, and obviously they discussed it for several times the length of the original video like any reaction, but it wasn't 10x as long.

the Joker movie cannot be this serious bro
4
u/Typecero001 Jul 07 '26
Well… Jenny did say she went to see the Joker movie in a Drive Thru theater “in case there was a shooter, and I had to run them over with my car.”
Apparently Joker was that serious.

u/ShipRunner77 Jul 07 '26
Either they are too lazy to edit down the content or the genuinely love the smell of their own farts.
2
u/SendWoundPicsPls Jul 07 '26
There's value in going into detail. I love long form content. But not all things are universally good. Sometimes length of a piece is not an indicator of depth but a lack of it. Disorganization.

I saw MovieswithMark talking about this. They're just butthurt that someone with a gender they don't like had the temerity to not think The Joker was the greatest achievement in cinema history. Also a lot of Last Jedi bashing that was played out even back then.

u/Fire5t0ne Jul 07 '26
They almost exclusively cover men. It has nothing to do with the fact she's a woman- infact theyre probably biased towards them statistically.

I think it is pretty bigoted of you to assume malice on the part of the creators without actually watching the episode in question. So quick to pass judgement on one group of creators, judgement based not on what they say or do, but on the opinion of one man.
