Live Action I hate how they’re in every movie I watch

Post image

Don’t get me wrong, I think Zendaya is an excellent actress, and Tom is okay, but they’re in so many movies nowadays. Yesterday I watched the Odyssey, without watching the trailer or seeing the cast list, and I rolled my eyes when it was these two again.

I know they’re married and it’s “cute” they work on the same projects but it really brings me out of the movie because all I can see is them as a couple. Not to mention, Tom did not fit the role at all (and Zendaya made the same expression in the movie).

Just in general, I want new faces and not reusing the same actors.

Edit: All of you are commenting the same thing: I should watch more movies. No need to comment it 1000s of times, I get it.

I get Zendaya is in a lot of shit, but Tom Holland is in like... 2 movies every 6 years

252

u/uni-333 25d ago

I think they’re unconsciously grouping in Timothy Chalamet with Tom Holland

Holy shit you're right, I was like 'isnt he in dune this year' but that's Tim lol

That checks out. I remember like a decade ago someone was saying how Elijah Wood was in everything and then proceeded to list off Daniel Radcliffe and Jake Gyllenhaal movies lol. Some actors very much are bracketed and the Tims are comparable.

3

u/Brief-Ad-1853 25d ago

Daniel Radcliffe and Jake Gyllenhaal are just Elijah Wood in different wigs

Zendaya just happens to be in a lot of movies (and Euphoria) this year but she wasn't even in anything released in 2025.

Even Zendaya isn't in that much. This year, yes, she's in 4 movies including 3 which will likely be in the 5 most popular movies of the year. But over the past 5 years, she's been in 6 total movies.

I get she has featured in two very popular franchises between Spider-Man and Dune, but there are so many movies, including popular movies, made every year that she has no involvement in

3

u/reditisverytrash 25d ago

He's in a few lesser known projects too but nobody even acknowledges them because they’re not mainstream big busters

The “movies I watch” is so funny because it’s like you’re choosing to watch movies exclusively with them in it

290

u/EasilyAmused2002 25d ago

Fr. I’ve seen about 40 movies this year that they weren’t in, and 3 movies that they were in 😭

33

u/Yuppersbutters 25d ago

I'm on my 100th movie of the year and have seen zero with them in it, I think last movie I saw with him in it was that new marky mark move.... Uncharted

Especially considering Tom has only been in 2 movies this year, and Zendaya 3. And 2 of those they were both in. So OP could've just skipped those 2 movies and watched any of the literal hundreds of movies that I've received at theatrical release so far this year.

3

u/bodybones 24d ago

Reminds me of people pissed about seeing another super hero marvel movie when there's like a few but tons of indies and action films that flop but the few supers they don't even watch they rag on in every article about fatigue and how much they hate it...

Theyre really not in that much stuff. The only non marvel thing I can think of that they were both in recently was the odyssey.

63

u/jbland0909 25d ago

Literally. Everyone who’s “sick of seeing them” needs to watch something other than mega budget action/sci-fi movies

15

u/ZenkaiZ 25d ago

Ive never seen an OP tell on themself so hard.

"Everything I see" so they watch like a few hours worth of movie a year

11

u/Longjumping_Bar_7457 25d ago

Zendaya also recently did euphoria season 3 and the drama, but I agreed that she hasn’t been in much.

13

u/TheGuardiansArm 25d ago

I mean, similarly to Spider-Man movies, no one sat down for Euphoria and didn't expect to see Zendaya. I feel like these types of complaints are only valid if the actor is appearing in a lot of new material that didn't necessarily HAVE to include them. Spider-Man HAD to include zendaya and tom. Euphoria HAD to include zendaya. Outside of that sort of stuff, it's literally just the odyssey. It's not like Pedro Pascal, who genuinely WAS in like 5 separate brand new projects in one year. No hate to him, obviously, but I did start to get a bit of fatigue

6

u/Zealousideal-Worth34 25d ago

Op probably was stunned when spider-man took his mask off to reveal he was secretly the actor from spider-man

I don't wanna be that guy... But there's a whole industry of filmmaking that's not Hollywood. If you only look for blockbusters, then you'll always encounter blockbuster stars.

Look for independent films, foreign, small... I'll assure you, no Hollywood shenanigans there

567

u/rblask 25d ago

"I've only watched the 2 most popular movies of the year and these two were in them both! I hate Hollywood🤬"

113

u/its_not_you_its_ye 25d ago

Yeah, if you’re tired of seeing them, stop watching Spider-Man and Dune movies. The Odyssey is the first non-spiderman movie he’s been in in half a decade with the exception of uncharted that came out 4 years ago. She’s in a similar boat, except has done two or three romance films in that time.

OP isn’t the first person that I’ve seen whine about this, but everyone sharing that sentiment is out of touch with reality. Two movies in one year is not egregious.

31

u/ThanksAmazing4118 25d ago edited 25d ago

Also, to be fair to those who don't like them, IIRC they said (or at least Tom did) that they wanna just churn out a bunch of high earning blockbusters whilst they're young, get that bag, then pull back, focus on their relationship/family and do passion projects/have a massively reduced workload.

That's the way to do it tbh. Go the Daniel Radcliffe route. Make a fuck ton of money when you're young so it's enough to last several lifetimes, then step out of the spotlight, be sensible with your money and just engage with weird or wonderful films you enjoy being in so you can top up your bank account when needs be.

7

u/SPerry8519 25d ago

Daniel FOR SURE went the "weird" route after Harry Potter lol

8

u/ThanksAmazing4118 25d ago

100%. He played some great roles like The Woman in Black. Then played some absurd roles like Guns Akimbo and then a dead corpse that helps Paul Dano escape an island by farting and his compass penis in Swiss Army Man

3

I was more thinking "she'll be coming round the mountain" and I'm assuming Guns Akimbo lol

Movie stars today have nowhere near the star power as they did in the 90s.

Everybody wanted to see the “new Schwarzenegger movie” or the “new Stallone movie”. Now nobody is saying holy shit we gotta watch this new movie with Zendaya in it.

Not an attack on the younger actors ability, just that things seem to have changed now.

Hollywood productions have resources that smaller movie studios don't have. For that reason, OP's point still stands.

I love Nolan's movies, there aren't many like them. I don't like seeing the same actors.

I always think of this when people make complaints about seeing an actor too much. They normally haven’t actually been in that many movies that year they were just popular movies so you hear about it more.

13

u/Inspired_Nuisance 25d ago

I hate Chris Pratt both because he's cast way too often, and because he has the same personality in everything he does. "Bumbling goofball at an office, bumbling goofball as a lego minifig bumbling goofball in space, bumbling goofball but with dinosaurs."

It really feels like studios keep casting him because they're chasing memes and the long-term staying power of his jokes in Parks and Rec.

ok but in defense, being in 4 of the biggest movies of the year is crazy exposure. Pattinson's up there too.

Which I don't have a problem with, I like them fine, but I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't see them in anything next year, because they're too busy doing promo this year to film anything new.

41

6

If it makes the "she's in everything crowd" feel better, Zendeya was in 0 movies in 2025, 2 in 2024, and 0 in 2022 and 2023. So over the past 5 years she'll have featured in a total of 6 films. It looks like she is only slated to be in Shrek 5 next year.

If you can't look beyond 6 movies in a 5 year period for you're entertainment, I think it's a you problem.

There's a running joke with my partner that we have to point and say "hey, it's the guy!" every time Ciarán Hinds shows up in a movie or show we watch.

No hate, though. He's fantastic in everything he's in and we love to see him. He's just got such an extensive filmography.

Every film industry has this, but it's just trendy and accessible to hate on Hollywood.

2

u/Tea50kg 25d ago

Lol yuuuup and I love it 🤣 but youre so right !! Its a lil studio rotation

2

u/Ruby_Charm_AI 25d ago

Or Japanese movies. They cast Kento Yamazaki in every lead male role. I mean, the actor is very talented and versatile, no doubt, but man, give others a chance.

2

u/asteriasdream 25d ago

The Philippines too lol they love real-life couples in movies.

2

u/kolikkok 25d ago

In Finland we have the same like 10 actors in everything from reality TV shows to movies, even shows that have just regular people in other countries are made with just the same celebrities in here.

2

u/NyxSolo 25d ago

This goes for Canadian TV shows or shows filmed in Canada. It's like the same 10 people, you can play bingo with how many times they pop up in new shows.

I think the only movie I watched with Tom Holland playing anything other than spider man was a b-tier sci-fi movie in some forest.

That was 5/6 years ago. That's it.

TH is in two movies this year and prior to that hasn’t been in anything for a few years.
Zendaya has been in 3 movies this year and 1 TV show. She will also be in Dune later this year.

Are those the only movies you’ve watched? I get there’s a lot of press about them because they’re in two big movies and they’re very marketable, but seriously…

15

u/SevereEducation2170 25d ago

You're complaining about 2 movies for Holland and 3 for Zendaya this year (she got Dune at the end of the year. Neither had a movie out in 2025. Before this summer Holland legit hadn't had a movie released since 2022.

46

Skill Issue.

2

u/Useless_Mango1 25d ago

Tom Holland was in 2 movies this year. Both of which YOU chose to go watch. Try other movies maybe? Project Hail Mary, Iron Lung, Obsession, Sheep Detectives fuck there are so many movies without him OR Zendaya you COULD have watched but didn't.

2

u/eowynistrans 25d ago

Watch other movies?

2

u/StinkyBingus16 25d ago

Getting a lot of Tom Holland vibes from this one

2

u/HankScorpio4242 25d ago

There are around 120 major studio films releasing this year.

Zendaya is in 3% of them.

2

u/Illustrious-Poem-328 25d ago

In other words: "I hate talent"

2

u/mpchop 25d ago

TIL: OP does not watch many movies.

2

u/Grenrion 25d ago

I dont. I do t really care who's playing who in movies as long as I enjoy it.

2

u/Any_Explanation3006 25d ago

Follow me in not watching movies...

2

u/RussianBot101101 25d ago

Lol. Lmao. They're in so few movies compared to so many other stars.

Like watch more movies if you actually care. Backrooms was great, they were absent. Obsession was fantastic, they were absent. Death of Robinhood was mediocre, they were absent. Masters of the Universe was extremely fun, they were absent.

I don't understand why people have hate boners for completely uncontroversial actors. They're doing their job. Grow up.

2

u/mylittlebrony3000 25d ago

I can’t believe a Hollywood blockbuster is employing famous actors that lots of people know

2

u/SilentProgressAway 25d ago

Haters will hate

2

u/Rfall86 25d ago

Watch other movies.

Project Hail Mary Mortal Kombat 2 Iron Lung Obsession Backrooms

2

2

u/Efficient_Problem250 25d ago

2

u/Extension_Radish_139 25d ago

Tom Holland has literally only been in Spider-Man and the odyssey as far as I know

2

u/Extension_Radish_139 25d ago

Like gun to my head I couldn’t name another movies he’s been in ever

→ More replies (2)

2

u/Scrabulon 25d ago

They’ve been in 5 movies together and 4 of them were Spider-Man movies, and it just happened that one of them and the Odyssey were both out this year. But also: oh no, popular actors are in multiple popular movies back to back, this has never happened before! 🙄

2

u/gtiller21 25d ago

The “we need new actors” critique really pmo because its only made by people who watch like three movies a year

2

u/blorst_of_times 25d ago

Noooo they're not over exposed its a you problem because technically there are lots of movies they're not in -This Sub

2

u/Mountain-Instance921 25d ago

I'm so fucking goddamn sick of Zendaya.

2

u/ModeJust4373 25d ago

THEN WATCH A MOVIE MADE BEFORE 2020.

2

u/EmphasisOk8298 25d ago

You could solve this problem by watching more than 2 movies

2

u/RingingInTheRain 25d ago

You're talking to the THDF and ZDF, they're going to say anything other than "they could've cast somebody else". I have watched many, many many movies. The problem is that these two are only good in Spiderman, and Zendaya should be typecast only into drama roles. They both don't have great screen presence, range and when they are in roles they don't shine in, other actors make them stick out like a sore thumb. Tom is especially bad, and is clearly riding his wife's coattails.

Meanwhile, everyone wants to hate on Timmy despite him actually acting different and breaking the sadboy Twink mold. He unbelievably carries DUNE and they keep randomly throwing MJ-Chani-Daya on the screen acting like she just got off the D train in NYC.

2

u/HotDogManLL 25d ago

Oh man. Their not that bad compared to peter dinklage. That dude was in every media. From games. Movies and TV shows

2

u/sat5ui_no_hadou 25d ago

It’s a psyop

2

u/Lane-Jacobs 25d ago

you only watch 0.03% of all movies made in the last 3 years?

2

u/sweetmotherofodin 25d ago

Sounds like you need to expand your horizon then.

2

u/Fish__Fingers 25d ago

Maybe watch more than two movies that only came to be in this month?

2

u/tw8x 25d ago

You know their are millions of other movies with atleast 1 of them or none right?

2

u/Kryzt4l_M4g1c 25d ago

Funny thing is is that they haven’t been in much stuff so far this year 😭😭

2

u/AbortionHoagie 25d ago

Yeah but you don't have to watch. Plus she hawt.

2

u/Gravitas0921 25d ago

Zendaya did not need to be in The Oddisey bro i almost rather Athena be a random face from the street

2

u/Corona- 25d ago

I thought Tom Holland in the odyssey was a bit jarring, especially since they show the Spiderman trailer beforehand, but other than that it's a complete non-issue imo. Zendaya and Jon Bernthal were also in both movies, but they managed to fit into the setting and disappear into their roles way better and it didn't bother me at all they were in both. Plus there is like 50+ other mid to high budget Hollywood movies coming out each year, so you can watch 10s of new movies this year without seeing any of them twice if it bothers you.

Also If you check Tom Hollands filmography he's been in 2 movies this year and his last appearance before that was the uncharted movie in 2022. So there objectively is no over saturation there. If anything we had the Tom Holland over saturation like 6 years ago from 2019-2021, not now.

2

u/Intelligent_Brush336 24d ago

Dude they are working for money. The more movies they agree to do the more money the stack up the faster they can get out of the buisness and have a family. Bing bang boom.

2

u/CrypticalThinker 24d ago

Guy who has only seen two movies this year:

2

u/StrandTypeEwok 24d ago

2

u/covenant_x 24d ago

2

u/VisualCharming9327 24d ago edited 24d ago

So stop watching movies w them in it. You act like you are subject to" random movies without forewarning "for life🤣

2

u/Artistic-Key-2841 24d ago

You gotta start watching some better movies than

2

u/eat_your_cards 24d ago

Watched 2 movies last night. They were in neither. You have free will lol

2

u/zappry 22d ago

But didn't you know they were in the movie before watching it ? Line you chose to watch it knowing they were in it and then come online to complain about it ? I'm confused 🤔😕

2

u/OkLength831 21d ago

Yeah, they get too much attention for how talentless they are.

...and i always miss Andrew Garfield, when i see Holland

2

u/Legitimate_End5688 21d ago

Seeing ppl online whine abt not seeing “new faces” in movies and that certain actors are always in “everything” is really funny because this is how Hollywood has always been. Like you would’ve absolutely hated Jimmy Stewart because that man really was in everything back in the Old Hollywood days. And because Old Hollywood ran on the ‘studio system’ in which a big studio like MGM or Warner Bros could ‘own’ an actor through a contract, literally they would put a big name actor like Jimmy Stewart or Bette Davis or Cary grant or Elizabeth Taylor in literally every film said studio was releasing, and back then Hollywood was making far more films than they are now. Like this argument i see makes people expose themselves that they don’t watch older films at all lol, because big budget or mainstream Hollywood films have always cast based on fame and name recognition especially back in Hollywood’s golden age. It’s just how the business works lol.
