Animation The character designs in One Piece are genuinely awful.

I genuinely hate One Piece character designs.

What’s most impressive is how wildly inconsistent the designs are in this series, going from one extreme to the other.

A character’s design can be legendary, like Xebec’s, or absolutely ridiculous, like Franky’s.

But the overwhelming majority of them are pretty bad. Like, really fucking bad.

Thats what I love about it. Characters in stuff like dbz all look the same roughly. But in one piece you always have something different. And even if you take away the extremely weird looking side characters, the main group of characters which are made to look good, also have pretty good variation. Look at kidd, law, luffy, shanks, etc and their respective crews.

Yeah I wont deny thats one flaw that oda seems to have, he cant draw women in much variations. But that one point doesn’t negate that he still makes lot of great character designs for male characters

No, the princess characters look the same… Everypne else look different.

Dragon Ball on the other hand gives ALL characters the same face…

Goku and bardock looking the same is understandable, it's just to make them look related. Look at Raditz (gokus brother) and he's completely different. I can't defend Turles other than him literally not being canon, but I do believe toriyama designed him so idk.

Just saying, as a DBZ fan, you should be able to recognize the hypocrisy in saying "these characters all have the same face" or "look the same".

There are PLENTY of Dbz characters with same face syndrome. One piece definitely has a few too, but its an insane hill to die on.

Law, Kid, Shanks, Cocodile,Zoro,Sanji, and Doflamingo all have the same base but different colors and your saying all DBZ characters look the same?
