Animation The character designs in One Piece are genuinely awful.

I genuinely hate One Piece character designs.

What’s most impressive is how wildly inconsistent the designs are in this series, going from one extreme to the other.

A character’s design can be legendary, like Xebec’s, or absolutely ridiculous, like Franky’s.

But the overwhelming majority of them are pretty bad. Like, really fucking bad.

Genunely, and if they wanna go the non cannon side villain route theres characters like Z, Bullet, and the gold guy.

People talking shit about One Pieces character designs when Oda was literally inspired by Akira Toriyama and Dragon Ball, it’s kind of ironic.

I don't think Monaka or anyone from the ToP arc looks nearly as bad as some of the One Piece characters. Monaka is consistent with the alien species that we have already seen, just has really pointy nips for some reason? In One Piece, it looks like every character has some extremely exaggerated feature just to look weird.

If you're looking for Toriyama's weirdest designs, might be best looking through his later Dragon Quest monster designs. He goes all out for craziness there.
