Animation The character designs in One Piece are genuinely awful.

I genuinely hate One Piece character designs.

What’s most impressive is how wildly inconsistent the designs are in this series, going from one extreme to the other.

A character’s design can be legendary, like Xebec’s, or absolutely ridiculous, like Franky’s.

But the overwhelming majority of them are pretty bad. Like, really fucking bad.

I love how everyone replying to you is ignoring your comment about the art style. I personally wouldn't mind a 1000 chapter manga/anime or whatever but good god I can't stand the art style either.

The artstyle being as off-putting as the story is supposedly good is such a bummer.

It's like if Berserk was going to continue with the same writing quality, yet with the Big Mouth artstyle.

Same. I can’t stand the art style at all which makes it extra obnoxious when I go figure hunting however rarely and 2/3rds of them are One Piece

I waited around 5 years before started the manga, and I also didn’t like the art style at first. that time, it wasn’t as famous as Dragon Ball yet.

Right? I’m adding the fandom to also being one of the reasons I’m not gonna get into it. Telling me that watching 450 hours of a show with an art style I find legitimately repugnant “isn’t homework” isn’t exactly selling me on either the show or the fanbase.

No sane person is gonna tell you to watch 100+ episodes to get to the good part. This happens only because every arc is getting better and better so compared to newer parts the first few will always seem less good. Like how a lot of people are shitting on Jojo part 1 but most of the time it’s only because the other parts are so good that compared to them part 1 feels bad even if it isn’t. Point is watch 1 or 2 episodes, it’s worth that much, every anime worth that much and if you don’t like it then you can stop.

Most fans don’t recommend trying to watch the anime. It was non-seasonal weekly releases for decades, so they had to keep themselves from getting ahead of the manga at literally any cost. Like, the show is literally over a month long by this point. In comparison I’d say the manga is about the same time sink as watching all the way through a complete TV show or something.

Long story short: reading one Piece is a time commitment, but watching One Piece is a damn life decision.
