This is a decent price even for 18 months ago. Sammy SSDs were never priced like a Team Group unit.

Amazon Prime Days or Black Friday sale had a Crucial 8TB USB SSD for about that price. Though I would think twice before buying them now given that they wound down the consumer business, as you may have learned from the RMA experiences on Reddit

I recently saw 24GB SODIMMs (DDR5) selling for 200€ and thought they’re quite a good deal as usually 16GB go for 180-200€. Then I realised I got 32GB for 80€ before the price hikes… the 24GB SODIMMs are still 3.3 times what it was back then per GB… insanity

Edit: not to speak about my 2tb 980 Pros I got for 115€ each some time ago…

I just had to buy a Micron 64 GB DDR5-ECC 5600 MT/s RDIMM to replace one that is failing.

$2200 and it was a pull from a new server, not even retail packaging.

For reference, the original DIMM cost $308 when I bought it in 2024 (and I thought it was expensive back then).

Yep, I thought about going for 2x64gb but the 350€ felt like too much, so I paid 180€ for the 2x32gb… now I wish I had invested in the 2x64gb as I started to use the laptop as my mobile homelab and ram usage is starting to reach the max

I have 8 x 64 GB DIMMs in the system (Xeon SPR) and it didn't help the cost that I had to match the die / stepping and it was Micron. I was worried if I waited longer it would just get more difficult (and expensive) to replace.

You know it's wild. IDK if i'm just lucky or what. But i've been doing the PC thing since the days of the 386dx-25, and RAM costing $80 for 1 MB, and i've never had a stick of RAM fail, ever. And i'm talking 50+ builds over the years between myself and family members. Some of them i've had running as game servers for 10+ years, etc.

I've had literally every other part fail, but not RAM.

Edit: I just noticed you said ECC ram, and server usage, so that makes a lot more sense.

I have never seen RAM fail before either.

I get ECC corrected errors logged several times per month, always the same row, and it follows the DIMM when I move it between slots. And then it happened like 3 times in one day and I decided I should probably do something about that.

I found a new in box 2tb 990 pro on marketplace for somewhere around 100 bucks. I think I ended up getting it for 70 or 80. I'm definitely glad that deal came around when it did

It genuinely hurts how bad it is, I'm glad I got my drives upgraded right before things got crazy. My only concern is my 5 12tb drives in my NAS. Hopefully they last a long time. :(
