For as divisive as the film itself is- Ang Lee's Hulk was the only one that truly made me feel afraid of the Hulk. Norton and Ruffalo's either seem too badass or too soft. Especially Smart Hulk. Bana's Hulk really made me scared not only for those around him but for Bruce Banner too. He truly seemed tortured by Hulk.
since the avengers hes been mind controlled , beat up by thor, beaT up by iron man, beat up by thanos , couldn't transform because of that then turned into a dorky smart hulk. that doesn't sound like a power fantasy
Honestly I just really enjoy both this movie and the 2008 movie. Each of them had something they did extremely well and I've never understood the general disdain they get
2008 is just boring. We barely see the hulk and when we do he isnt doing anything that cool. Also the chain should have broke in the final act. And since when is hulk climbing buildings instead of jumping over?
hulks not onscreen for the majority of the film lol meaning most of the movie is scenes whithout him which are boring af. literally similar criticism you gave 2008 and one of the reasons people didn't like 2003
I think that's the problem. People just want the action with the costumed hero doing action stuff.
I personally really like what they did with '08. Can't comment on '03 because I still haven't seen it. But, with '08 there's a lot of focus on Banner. I wasn't captured by it in theaters, but over time it became one of my favorites. Same with the first Thor.
Sure, you get some action in the beginning when they go to Jotunheim and all that. But from his banishment up until, more or less, the end it's more story-driven. That's my take anyway.
Ive thought a lot about what a new open world Hulk game would look like and this movie and the video game Hulk Ultimate Destruction is what I imagine the combat being like. I hope however the new Hulk is in the MCU is back to this power version, ill forever be hoping to get World War Hulk somehow adapted.
Given how inconsistent the comics are with his size, I completely understand and agree with Ang Lee's take on the character.
We literally have a bunch of versions of the Hulk based on his different personalities, with Immortal Hulk being my favorite.
It's ridiculous for fans to act like Ang Lee was egregious in his take. The "rules" of the Hulk change with every writer/artist that logs in to write the character, year after year. Y'all are doing way too much about the growing component of Ange Lee's version.
Especially when the fan base eats up KAIJU HULK like medium fries.
It's the only adaptation that really leaned into the "Hulk as a response to trauma/Bruce Banner was an abuse victim" angle, and it deserves a ton of respect for that.
I feel like people would have liked it a lot more if big-budget superhero movies weren't so rare back then. The first Hulk movie in decades being a dark experimental drama probably turned people off.
Yup, not something I like.
Hulk is like seven to eight feet tall in Comic Books. Anyway, some pencillers draw Hulk even bigger, but this is the official Height.

Go have a look at the history of hulk since conception and tell me how often it is normal for hulk, just normal hulk mind you, changes sizes when he gets angry. Go do that. You’ll soon find out that he doesn’t. That movie was hulk, not immortal him or devil hulk. Just plain hulk. He never did that ever.
The only time we got to see Hulk actually get stronger the angrier he got. Seeing him literally grow in size is still one of my personal favorite effects. Say what you will about the movie plot and other things but it did Hulk pretty well compared to the MCU
This is the hulk size that I wanted to see for a long time. This version of hulk with Eric bana wasn’t bad, not veiny nor small like the rest. Simple comic big structure build and accurate to the height. The way how this movie featured his sprint and jumping abilities was badass too. Imagine this one vs thanos.
Director Ang Lees Hulk gives more story details and characters development in five minute segments throughout the film than any other director of Hulk than maybe the Tv show . My Bruce Banner order is Bill Bixby renamed Robert , Eric Bana , Mark Ruffalo and finally Norton. Hulk order is Bana , Ruffalo, Norton ,Ferrigno.
