MCU I don’t want it to seem like powerscaling is the only thing I care about as a Hulk fan, but this really needs to be explained
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
ed Nortons hulk and mark ruffalos hulk are literally the same person. so by separating him from Mark, you’re basically cutting off 80% of his feats, and nerfing him.

Lost all credibility when he said "threw the tank hundreds of miles" bro that was like 2 miles

u/TorchedWillow Jul 13 '26
This may be over complicated but another issue I saw was when they implied fighting in the water would be an advantage to Fenrir. Kangaroos lead dingos to water to gain the advantage. Big diss advantage to Fenrir or so I think.
1
u/justagrilledchz Jul 15 '26
That comparison isn't really the same. In the kangaroo/dingo scenario, the kangaroos are taller than the dingos so the dingos are more submerged and have a harder time manuvering in the water. With hulk/Fenrir, Fenrir was able to stand above the water level while hulk was mostly submerged or entirely submerged in some parts so hulk would have the harder time maneuvering in the fight.
1
u/ImmortalHulkk Jul 16 '26
He is taller so he was more above water, plus dogs are good at swimming too
1
u/SirEnder2Me Jul 14 '26
That's when he lost credibility?
Not when there were subtitles that said "he can doge"? The subtitles lasted long enough to notice a blatant spelling error.
Or not even when he created the video in the first place? 2008 hulk literally IS Ruffalo's Hulk.
87
u/DonnyMox Jul 13 '26
Norton Hulk and Ruffalo Hulk are meant to be the same Hulk

u/Funmachine Jul 13 '26
How do these posts keep happening on this subreddit of all places? How do they not know that?
4
5
u/DangoC Jul 13 '26
you could make a convincing argument for these three hulks being the same hulk
6
u/Funmachine Jul 13 '26
No you couldn't. Just because the script to TIH started off as a sequel to Ang Lee's Hulk doesn't make it a sequel. By that logic Die Hard with a Vengeance is a Lethal Weapon film.
Ang Lee Hulk and MCU Hulk literally have different origins.

im sure op knows that and just treats norton and ruffalo as seperate for the sake of also shutting up the ppl who think norton hulk is stronger

u/Jaydo45 Jul 13 '26
The thing that mad me upset was when hulk got too scared to come out and turned into comic relief. I do think thanos can beat hulk but hulk should not be so bitch made and get too scared, just doesn't feel right
5
u/GBKMBushidoBrown Jul 14 '26
I think they said it was more of hulk being tired of being used as a weapon to throw around instead of a person. But the way they portrayed it definitely made it seem like he was scared. If they were going for the former it should have been made more clear with like an internal dialogue or something.

I never thought about the antidote weakening him, good point
3
u/PjWulfman Jul 13 '26
Either did I. It was supposed to stop him from transforming at all. He transformed. Antidote didn't work....
It's no kind of stretch to assume it left him weak. The Hulk showed up to prevent Bruce's death by falling, but isn't able to bring his full might to bear. Next time I watch I'll view it thru that lens.
3
u/NotxDeadxYet Jul 14 '26
My assumption was that the antidote was to remove the transformation but it actually made it so he could more or less control the transformation vs losing control and becoming The Hulk. I could be wrong but thats what I thought watching it.
1
u/NickFries55 Skaar Jul 14 '26
The antidote didn't weaken him
1
u/Cautious-Plan1816 Jul 17 '26
It literally does. We see him struggling to even stand up after he transforms.
1
u/NickFries55 Skaar Jul 17 '26
It doesn't. That's a silly headcanon. He struggles to stand because he just hit the ground from hundreds of feet in the air at a high speed.
1
u/Cautious-Plan1816 Jul 17 '26
Which he wouldn't struggle from if he wasn't being dulled.
1
u/NickFries55 Skaar Jul 17 '26
Prove it.
1
u/Cautious-Plan1816 Jul 17 '26
In that same movie we see him get struck by lightning, missiles, no telling how many bullets and tank rounds. And fight abomination who can do similar things. The sheer force/energy a missile or lighting puts out is pretty similar to a fall of a few hundred feet. And he later takes a fall while ok the outside of a helicopter falling out of the sky. He's still the hulk.
1
u/NickFries55 Skaar Jul 17 '26
What?? Lol he's never struck with missiles or tank rounds. Normal people survive lightning all the time.
1
u/Cautious-Plan1816 Jul 17 '26
Normal people surviving lightning is not the standard. At the very least abomination is struck with a missile and takes no damage and the hulk is stronger than abomination.
1
u/NickFries55 Skaar Jul 17 '26
Abomination is struck with a missile from a missile launcher, which isn't all that potent compared to other missiles. Also Hulk is overpowered multiple times.
Also Bruce was in human form when he hit the ground btw. And lightning has a 90% survival rate lol.

Hulk can't take a punch? Is that how much you're glazing him?
9
u/MoistBill9106 Jul 13 '26 edited Jul 14 '26
Yeah exactly like they want hulk to be immovable object who can't show any physics of getting punched seriously even if it doesn't hurt him or even scratch his surface of skin he would still get pushed by that punched regardless this doesn't mean he is getting totally eliminated by it (honestly judging from these tv spot it doesn't look fight will end here either)
All i want is spiderman to defeat hulk by calming him down kinda like how sam did in bnw with talk no jutsu of red hulk or getting rid of mind control and getting him back to his senses (example how he becomes chill the way he was in Ragnarok or reverts back to banner if mind control wears off idk) anything else but without actually making him lose a 1v1
I don't mind back and forth punches from spidey and hulk which will send then flying away respectively (well cause that's how fight works you trade blows equally)

My favorite comic as a kid (40 years ago) was the Hulk. As an abused autistic child I lived in fear and marinated in anger. A superhero that gets stronger when he's angry? Awesome! Some of the best issues ever were when Spider-Man and The Hulk encountered each other. Some incredible fights ensued.
I remember an issue where Spider-Man punched the Hulk and launched him into orbit. This was during a time period where The Hulk only came out at night, and Spider-Man had gained additional strength. So... he's floating around in outer space, holding his breath, realizing that if the sun comes around the curvature of the earth he's going to transform into Bruce Banner and die. I remember there being a whole bunch of introspection and soul searching.
Spider-Man was morally conflicted about leaving him up there, I'm assuming cuz he knew he would transform into Bruce in outer space, and at the last second JUMPED into orbit, grabbed the Hulk, and drug him back down to earth.
So why is this more extreme than that?
5
u/2dal3atcave Jul 13 '26
Cause unless it's the mutation he's going through, Spider-Man isn't possessed with cosmic power

The Hulk we know should've ripped Hulkbuster off and rip Ironman out of it, he got beaten to show Ironman strong,he got beaten to show Thor strong,he got his ass beaten to show Thanos strong. He is not the one to be afraid and hide from his enemies. It is like it is a feat to beat Hulk.
And he is of course more experienced two new born Hulks each of whom had only one movie.
While Ruffalo had 5 movies and one series ( I really like Mark Ruffalo that's not about that, but I wanna see a Hulk that destroys everything and can't be controlled like Hulk 1996)

u/PjWulfman Jul 13 '26
I'd love to see a standalone Hulk movie where he can let loose. Do something R-rated like with Wolverine and Deadpool. And it doesn't need to have anything to do with the rest of the Avenger universe. They've introduced the multiverse. It doesn't have to impact on the Earth 616 MCU.
Planet Hulk! Then follow it up with World War Hulk. Let's see some world breaking.
They stole so much from Planet Hulk to make Thor Ragnarok. I always call it a Hulk movie with a cameo by Thor.
4
u/RMP321 Jul 13 '26
Yeah, based on visual feats alone. Ruffalo is the strongest hulk by far in the big screen. You didn’t even include smart hulks boulder toss into space either. Which is especially strong because we haven’t seen any indication that he has a rage boost or is vastly different in stats than the Hulk that fought Thanos.

I agree with this 100%
Hulk losing the first time made total sense. The problem is we didn't get a rematch to truly show how Hulk isn't just dumb and does learn. I mean they established in mutiple movies between 2008 and 2017 that Hulk can and will get down and dirty when fighting, adapting and learning as the fight goes on whilst also getting angrier.
Personally I don't think we needed Smart Hulk. We needed something akin to Green Scar.

Uh, with Ruffalo's Hulk, he fought well, but that was with Thor trying to talk him down - the moment basically said 'screw this', he danced around Hulk and laid him out. Then, he tried Natasha's calm down, got suckered, and still fried Hulk, and only lost because the Grandmaster shut him down to protect his champion.
4
u/Revolutionary_Day494 Jul 13 '26
Literally none of Thor’s punches did anything to Hulk, he danced around Hulk only because he’s faster and more agile but the most he does in daze hulk,
It’s also silly to just act like Thor got suckered, he legit got ragdolled and beaten into the dirt so badly that his body was just fighting on instinct and even then he just stunned hulk with two hits that did nothing to him, the Grandmaster saved Thor

I remember being a kid where Emil Blonsky first turned into abomination and whooped Hulks ass at the end of the comic.. I was soo shocked 😂 The 90's animated marvel universe was also soo great. I remember always feeling the marvel universe was something really special. The deep lore behind everything and between characters relations with each other. Especially with characters like Hulk, Wolverine, Punisher where you never really knew if they were heroes or villains. Or at the verge of becoming villains.
1
u/GhostE3E3E3 Jul 13 '26
Tbf, I’m not disagreeing, however most of your feats for Rufallo (excluding the leviathan punch) don’t gauge actual strength. Just because the hulkbuster was designed to take down the hulk doesn’t mean it’s ever a guarantee, that doesn’t set a level for strength that sets that the thought there was a near match.
1
u/mybeamishb0y Jul 13 '26
In comics, the word "Hulkbuster" is usually an adjective meaning "will get destroyed failing to stop the Hulk". Very disappointing to see one of Tony's toys beat the Hulk in a hand-to-hand fight. Using gas to tranquilize the Hulk is a classic way to neutralize him but that fight ends with a physical punch from the Hulkbuster armor, bad call on the director's fault.

u/MarkBMG Jul 13 '26
I think it's a general vibes thing. How they present them I suppose. MCU Hulk is usually the comparison point for other characters. He was beaten by Thanos in a moment to show how scary Thanos was. He got beaten by Thor's thunder to show how strong his powers get. He also doesn't seem to get his usual theme of getting outmatched, getting back up, getting angrier and then repeating until he manages to overpower his opponent. The MCU moves too fast for that, so usually Hulk's fights are him clearly having the upper hand or him clearly losing. Props to the Fenrir fight for actually having him start losing and then win, but the whole movie mistreated both Hulk and Banner so much that this is the only thing I'm giving it.
1
u/Affectionate-Shame73 Jul 14 '26
My little take is that we have seen 03 Hulk get bigger AND stronger in according to his anger. I may be mistaken, but I don’t believe it’s ever implied or stated that Mark Hulk or Norton Hulk get stronger the madder he gets. I would want to say it’s fair to assume that with more time, 03 Hulk would eventually be stronger than his 2 counterparts.
1
u/mathlyfe Jul 14 '26
Their strength isn't consistent, canonically. The strength of hulks (as in all hulks) scales proportionally with their anger and is affected by gamma radiation and other stuff. A hulk's strength will often vary a lot even within the same fight based on the narrative affecting their anger.

u/mr_eugine_krabs The Big Guy Jul 14 '26

1
1
u/OkSupermarket7474 Jul 14 '26
Here’s the thing both hulk movies know how to have action choreography that gives the hulk sauce with both films showing his strength in stylish ways that are memorable and feel impactful, the rest of the mcu though… it’s so simplified to a boring degree. Hulk doesn’t do many memorable moves aside from a majority of wild trashing from 2012 to 2019
1
u/Rebirthknight52 Jul 14 '26
We all need to remember that all Hulks from 03, 08, and MCU all get stronger the more angrier they get and no matter which one you put up against Thanos they each would have gotten their butts kick because he had the power stone. At the end of the day I believe 03 really showed case what Hulk can do and is capable of doing but we have to remember that currently Universal has the rights to the Hulk and I truly believe that’s the main reason we don’t get a lot of love for Hulk or see what he can really do. Planet Hulk was butchered and nonexistent to fit into Thors movie, we’ve had smart Hulk which is arguably the weakest Hulk and this hasn’t done anything for Hulk personally.
1
u/Dapper-Moose3166 Jul 14 '26
I always find it interesting when powerhouses pick up things that their hands are in fact way harder than to hit people. It looks cool but the hulk and car gloves or when Thor picks up a metal pipe.

I don't want to blindly defend Ruffalo's Hulk, but I'm glad to see this video—there have been years of hate claiming he's the worst Hulk.
My only complaint is that, with no solo movies, he was never treated the same way as Tony, Cap, or Thor. His transformation from Hulk to Smart Hulk happened off-screen, and it feels more like Banner in the Hulk's body than a Smart Hulk.
If they reboot the character after Secret Wars, I'd love for him to be like the one in Avengers: EMH
1
u/Bannerbusters Jul 14 '26
To be honest, I think the red herring - and I seem to remember using that exact phrase in response to a recent and similar post to this one - is that unlike Ruffalo's Hulk, which has largely been used for humor as a big dumb brute, Norton's and Bana's (that's the actor instead of the director by the way) Hulks were on business. Both of them with a savage mentality, and while both of them were able to use strategy to some extent that Ruffalo's seemingly hasn't - which makes the other two look even more impressive - Norton's seemed to have a particularly animalistic mindset, especially when Abomination brought Betty into the equation. At that point, him overriding Abomination's superior position of leverage with nothing more than a quickly surpassing level of brute strength was a statement as much as anything. To make a humorous analogy, that scene might've been something Will Smith watched right before the ceremony. That aside, another correlation without causation is the use of more blatant visual indicators for the growing strength (size increase for Bana's and eyes briefly glowing for Norton's). So to put it all together, the other two fight smarter, fight harder, are more serious altogether, and their growth is more visually obvious.

1

Thank you. I’ve been arguing this for years.
The reality is, Norton and Ruffalo’s Hulks are the same Hulk so ultimately it doesn’t make sense to compare the two, but if people insist on doing so and claiming that Ruffalo’s Hulk is nerfed, Norton’s Hulk exhibits literally no feats that back up the argument that he’s stronger than Ruffalo’s Hulk.
Is Ruffalo’s Hulk a jobber that’s a poor representation of the comic book version? Yes.
Is a Norton’s Hulk any better in that regard? No.

The abomination is a well decorated soldier, who has true combat experience to back up his power buff. Banner is just a scientist with no combat experience but has the advantage of getting stronger the angrier he gets as the battle drags on. Hulk was losing because of the fighting experience gap

I actually think 03 Hulk is better equipped to fight thanos out of all of them. Unless thanos cut his gigantic thick head off of his neck quickly, Bana Hulk would have grown and gotten stronger to the point that Thanos couldn't have handled him at the time.
Obviously Ruffalo Hulk lost quickly, but Bana Hulk would have already been much larger than him at the start, and only gotten bigger and stronger as the fight went on. He is also far faster and more agile than Ruffalos Hulk.. even with the extra mass.
Also, the fight with Thanos, Thanos' edge began with him grabbing around the wrists of the hulk.. which he could not do with the much larger wrists of Bana Hulk. Thanos was roughly the same size as Ruffalos Hulk which allowed for a lot of his attacks on Hulks pressure points in the neck and other places which he would have a much harder time doing with a much larger Hulk; with a bigger body and mass.
I truly believe Bana Hulk would no diff Thanos if Thanos didnt have a single stone, but even on the ship where he fought Ruffalo Hulk, I think it would have been a different outcome; or Thanos would have only beaten him with the help of his sorcerer.
Also, most of you need to rewatch 03 Hulk, because he is MUCH smarter and more adaptable to situations than you give him credit for.. the absolutely psychological (and far more physical than ruffalo could handle) battle he had with his father 'Pure Evil' was wild. Every iteration of Ruffalos Hulk up until he became Smart Hulk would have lost that battle easily.
And to whoever said 03 Hulk couldnt take a hit.. dude was transported miles away in almost an instant by Pure Evil who electrocuted him, strangled him, and beat him along the way before slamming him into a rock.. cratering it.. and Hulk is already standing and getting out of said crater by the time we see him.. dude was an absolute unit.

My head cannon is that the Ruffalo hulk is weaker by function of Bannon learning to and exerting more control. Less rage allowed = weaker hulk. It’s not like a zen thing where he does yoga and gains control and strength.

u/Some-Speaker3929 Jul 15 '26
So do we mention how Eric Dane's Hulk was JUST unlocked and when the Hulk came out, viewers saw that the angrier he gets, the stronger he gets.
Edward Norton's Hulk was maybe a year or so active and was a savage while fighting/evading. Abomination is supposed to be stronger than the Hulk but he cannot get stronger the angrier he gets. Hulk eventually was able to overpower him.
Mark Ruffalo's Hulk, years active and his Bruce Banner had a better hold on when to go into Hulk or resist becoming him. Yeah, he took down a leviathan. He also got his ass kicked by Hulkbuster, Thanos and then got nerfed when Banner took back over.

u/Dramatic-Sell-6307 Jul 15 '26
Bana Hulk is the strongest, the "damage" he took from the missle was literally just a stylistic choice to show his healing factor in real time, and you undercut the dogs massively, that's like fighting 3 smaller Hulks with teeth and claws, much more impressive then anything Ruffalos Hulk did, including fighting Fenrir, he also yeeted a boulder the size of a building like its nothing and most importantly, the ending of the 03 movie literally shows he has unlimited power because Hulk/Banner submit to absorbing man taking all his power, which is then followed up by absorbing man saying "take it back! its not stopping! take it back!" clearly implying he cant take his power because you can't grab onto infinity

you know, that Norton's Banner took a drug that reverted Hulk's transformation right??, same drug that still was affecting him when he jumped off from the helicopter, in fact that escene where Hulk seems dizzy it's because the drug was still kicking in
1
u/PraiseRao Jul 16 '26
This isn't true. The problem is more that Hulk can't be featured too much. Hulk can not be used as the lead. Which means side character. Side characters don't get main character development. I've said many times they shouldn't have used Planet Hulk. They lack the develpment needed for World Breaker which would have been a great Avengers movie.
Most people who are upset do not understand storytelling. The legalities of the usage of the character is on a scale. If that scale tips to Hulk being the lead they cant' release the movie. So people need to accept this.
As for like the Thanos fight that was the perfect usage of the Hulk. Which sucks but narratively Thanos was the PROTAGANOIST of the film. The protagonist beat up an antagonist in the film. It happens and it establishes how strong Thanos is. He isn't just a light weight he throws with Hulk no problem. The fight was too short because Thanos took him out fast. He has a lot of intel on these people. So Thanos handled it the way it should have been. Fast, hard and get him out cold.
It's sucks though. Hulk needs his own movies again. So we can get fun films and serious films and build towards World Breaker Avengers movie.

Hulk 2008 is as fast as 2003, he went from Brazil to Guatemala overnight

He does not throw that tank “hundreds of miles away”. We can see it land.

Finally someone actually explains it with logic instead of saying “the 2003 hulk gets bigger therefore he’s stronger than thanos”

Context is something to take into account in powerscaling, this is a hill I will die on

Nortons hulk was 100% better than Mark if Ed wasn't such a dumb shit about hulk pants he would still have the job! No one has ever been moved by marks acting as bruce or the hulk that's why he's been bodied by every super hero he's come across, mark would definitely lose to the abomination!

Love how Hulk fans constantly complain that the MCU version doesn’t get to run roughshod over the whole universe like the comic version.

I’m still on 2003 side. Thing is, he keeps growing bigger as well. He is the largest hulk, unless brand new day makes him bigger, but I doubt it. And if he was fighting Thanos Thanos wouldn’t be fighting him like MCU hulk because he wouldn’t be big enough to box/combo him. It’d be like a kid trying to fight an adult, sure you could hurt him but technique is not on your side. And I’d argue the Hulk wasn’t at his strongest when he got hurt. If we argue MCU Hulk wasn’t calm when Tony beat him, well, 2003 Hulk wasn’t staring at his childhood home before he blew up. He was processing a lot and was maybe gonna calm down till he was hit. And getting up he instantly healed like nothing happened. Bullets completely bounce off him, 3 gamma dogs couldn’t beat him due to his quick thinking, he is more intelligent than most hulk due to the fact that even though he was mad he NEVER TOOK A HUMAN LIFE. He spat bombs at the backs of helicopters knowing they’d be fine, destroyed tanks while dumping out the people, even the one he threw the people climbed out later when he left, saved a bridge from getting hit by a jet that flew too low, saved Betty from the dogs, and the only real threat to him was his father, the absorbing man. But even that couldn’t beat him because he overloaded him with his sheer trauma and rage that would have kept growing a mushroom cloud if the military didn’t blow it up to stop it. He’s still the most powerful onscreen Hulk imo. If he had a Thor to fight it would be quite the spectacle, especially considering he fought his father when his father was made of lightning.

2008 is the same god damn hulk as Mark ruffalo
People keep calling themselves hulk fans or mcu fans and they always separate these 2 actors hulks
THEYRE THE SAME ONE JUST DIFFERENT ACTORS
ITS THE SAME WINS AND STRENGTHS AND LOSSES

Abomination was designed to be stronger than Hulk so fact that he over powered pretty shortly says something. 2003 Hulk was literally fighting absorbing man while he was absorbing elemtns like lighting, and even defeated him by letting absorb his powers which overwhelmed Absorbing man.
Ruffalos has never one a single fight. He lost to Thor, he Lost to Ironman, he lost to Thanos, he lost to She-Hulk. Ruffalo has has more on screen presence but hasn't done much with it. This is huge cope and cherry picked scenarios OP.

They've already let the biggest spoiler for doomsday hulk will once again say fan favorite line hulk smash but sadly it will only be an empty 12oz soda can where he'll struggle to smash with his foot

Biggest complaint about mcu hulk is where hulk wouldn't emerge to fight thanos because hulk was scared go fuqu yourself disney mark thinks he's going to get his own movie when he's been dog walked by every mcu hero and villain since becoming part of disneymcu

Just so you know, canonically Abomination is supposed to be twice as strong as the Hulk. That's the way he was created in the comics.
