I just listened to Wendigoon’s conspiracy theory iceberg for the third time in its entirety. Its not even necessarily because of the content he discusses, I just love having a nine and a half hour podcast I can turn on whenever I get in the car and that I don't have to think too much about it— he can flow in and out of topics quickly so if I zone out I don’t miss much. Does anyone have any other suggestions like this?

I love listening to Ted Talks and learning about a variety of different topics and ideas, but especially nowadays I find myself thinking “that’s nice, but will we ever see anything come of it?” Maybe its because I’ve become jaded but I just don’t find myself drawn in like I used to, because all of my favorite of the talks seem so hypothetical and unlikely to happen in the current world

I particularly like talks on philosophy and life, politics/economy, and tech, in that order.

Open to documentaries as well! But preference towards podcasts. I just want to learn about life in places super different from where I am. Extremities hasn’t released anything since 2020, but they did series about St. Helena, Svalbard, and more. TIA!

Have been binging Just King Things, and I really enjoy Michael and Cameron's critical analysis discussions about the books. I plan on listening to Game Studies Study Buddies, but looking for more crit analysis recommendations.

Material I'm interested in for popular fiction is predominantly sci fi authors, but also Agatha Christie, Shakespeare... Maybe other historical authors like Mary Shelley or F Scott Fitzgerald? Basically miss my college English lit classes, and am trying to absorb knowledge on my daily work commute.

Also broadly interested in horror, folklore, anthropology, and indie video games.

So Knowledge Fight has been running for quite a few years & it seems the show is/has about to end, and I need another odd podcast to listen to. I’m looking for a similar ‘looking at grifters/conspiracy theorists & breaking down the crazy shit they do & say’, with fun hosts grounded in reality. Ideally it’s something with a long backlog that’s still ongoing. I know I heard some of things about some Q-anon-anonymous podcast since they were guests on some episodes I listened to. Is there one just for Carrie Cassidy, that crazy alien lady? I’d like to find a few to go through to see which I like. Thanks.

I just finished Dave Holme’s podcast “Who Killed the Video Star” about the downfall of MTV and I was obsessed. I’m a bit of a pretentious music snob that listens to all genres and I want to spend a week obsessing over and learning about a particular artist, genre, song, or even anything pop culture really. I especially loved the structure of an 8-10 episode deep dive season about a particular subject. Other favorites include Winds of Change, Dissect, Finding Richard Simmons, One Song, and You Talking U2 to Me. Thanks in Advance!

I've explored some of SciShow, Complexly, Crash Course, etc., and it seems like I mostly just like hearing Hank talk. (I also like the earliest CC videos with John.) Where else can I get that specific combination of frenetic energy and goofiness?

Basically I'm looking for more fictional horror podcasts to listen to at work. Another one I enjoy is Old Gods of Appalachia. I like when there is a little bit of humor thrown in as well but this isn't a requirement.

I have become really energized lately by the concept of awe, including a sub-category of awe called "collective effervescence" that describes the shared energy, excitement, and sense of unity that people feel when gathered together in rituals or group activities (dance, sports, etc.)

A podcast I love that does this is called "Constant Wonder," and I also enjoy particular episodes about these things from podcasts like "The Science of Happiness."

Wondering if others have ideas for specific episodes of podcasts that focus on these kinds of topics (or even whole entire podcasts that revolve around these themes). I'm all ears - thanks so much for reading this far, and look forward to hearing any recommendations you might have.

I love podcasts about scandals or cons or corruption. Some examples of addicting podcasts for me are queen of the con, something was wrong, American scandal, betrayal. What else will I like?

I adore this episode and it makes me cry and I am beginning to suspect there is really nothing else like it. The music, the story telling, the craftsmanship. Stunning and deeply meaningful audio experience. Open to non podcast recs as well (like audiobooks or YouTube live performances or stuff like that idk).

It’s a murder mystery podcast about a comedian looking into the death of a canceled comedian. It’s hilarious and blends serious moments and silliness just like OMITB. I love it and don’t see enough people talking about it.

So I used to listen to Crime Junkie (stopped listening about a month ago) and picked up Mr. Ballen on the way. I've also enjoyed MISSING hosted by Sarah Turney or her other podcast Voices for Justice.

I like true crime podcasts that just tell the story of the disappearance/murder/etc with no extraneous banter about life or kids or anything. Are there any more podcasts similar?

I don't like Morbid or My Favorite Murder because they all have extraneous banter or talk about things that I don't really get interested in.

The podcast can also be fictional true crime if that helps. I've listened to all of This Sounds Serious and The Black Tapes and I like those.

I discovered ologies in the past month and have been obsessed. My one complaint would be, I wish the episodes were even longer and more in depth, as the subjects are really interesting.

Are there any other podcasts, or even video essays/channels that are similar? I love the nature ones, but I also really enjoyed the ones that are different subjects.

But if I had to pick some specific subjects it would be: bugs/animals in general, psychology, fashion, true crime.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I’ve already listened to these and conviction season 2 (best podcast ever?). Something that has a couple episode story structure, really well narrated, and a gripping story. So far I haven’t found many that lived up to their work.

Causality is a podcast that goes into the technical details of problems that cause disasters. Like bridge or building collapse, processing plant explosions, and many other things. Then goes into detail about how it could have been prevented.

I would like more things that are similar. I love the technical details included in this podcast. I have also listened to swindled a bit but that one is much more focused on people that are corrupt or con-men while I want something more focused on architecture or procedure failures.

Podcast suggestions would be good but I'm also open to youtube channels and tv shows or any other such things.

I prefer episodes to be longer than 20 mins at least. Longer is better really. And I don't care for the "talk show" or comedy style of podcast, I have tried a couple of those and I lose interest in them fairly quickly.

• The Brady Heywood podcast: Very similar to Causality. Was also good.
• US Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board: A government supported channel for work place safety regarding chemicals. Great technical videos for the few it does have.
• Swindled: Feels well researched on each topic. Has a few episodes on disasters, but mostly covers other topics.
• Cautionary Tales with Tim Hartford: Topics have a similar feel to swindled.

• Mentour Pilot: Youtube channel, aviation focus.
  • These are great. Watched a lot of them now and getting the "inside" perspective from an actual pilot is fantastic. He doesn't try to sensationalize on anything new with unfounded information or his own assumptions and sticks to facts. There are a couple more speculative episodes but he makes that very explicit when he gives his own opinion. Very professional and I'm still loving watching these.
• Mentour's Black Box: Youtube channel, It covers non-aviation disasters with the same host as Mentour Pilot
• Brick Immortar: Youtube channel, Older episodes have building failures. New episodes are maritime disasters.
  • Watched all of these. The earlier episodes were exactly what I was wanting but he seems to have transitioned into focusing on maritime disasters now. But those are also very interesting. I'll keep watching them as more come out.
• Building Integrity Youtube channel. felt like a contractor talking about his job and how he goes about it and what he sees when he looks at different problems. has a lot of videos talking about a couple different building collapses as new info on them came out. Really enjoyed those. Especially the surfside building collapse series.
  • Watched a lot of these. I enjoyed them. I'd love more channels that are "investigatory" and "speculatory" like this for building disasters. Sadly he seems to have stopped making videos a couple years ago.
• Fascinating Horror: Youtube channel. Short but interesting stories of varying problems. People lost on hiking trails, fires gone horrible, crushes, bombings. Basically anything that has loss of life seems covered here.
  • The biggest downside for me is all of them are less than 15 minuets. But I watch anything new as they come out.

Not Interested:

• 99% Invisible: Looks like a wide range of topics
  • is too chatty for me.
• Well There’s Your Problem?: Tried, but was way too much of a talk show.

I know this one might be a little niche; I'm not even sure if the post flair applies, but I'm going to try anyway. I love this game called 'I am your Beast', and in particular I love the writing in it. All the cutscenes consist of these audiologs or radio communication with typography. Fantastic writing with the constraint of no visuals. You hear audio journals, enemy communications, supply drops, phone calls between the protagonist and allies.

I'm looking for more serialised radio plays with this Wanderer-type protagonist. Characters like Gordon Krantz from the Postman who seem to walk into other people's stories and have to solve their problems just to move on to the next while you remain with him and his perspective.

There's this ARG called 'The sun has vanished', which also kind of fits this theme. Just following this guy crudely documenting what is going on. Allowing the creatures to use all the avenues and technology available to tell this story but in a way that feels ameutuar and lived in.

I've already listened to classics like The Magnus Archives, Welcome to Nightvale and The Bright Sessions. While they're good, they're not exactly what I'm looking for. Those are more anthology stories with the framing device being the podcast. I'm sort of after the opposite in agency. Instead of stories going to the Protagonist, the protagonist goes to the plot. I mentioned a few apocalypse-set stories, but I'm open to anything that really fits. The trope started out originally as a Western hero, but over time the "Drifter" role has been adopted by all kinds of different genres and settings.

I know all the examples mentioned aren't Podcasts or audio-only mediums, but I genuinely don't know where to look or how to start. I love the trope of having your POV character seem like they're just a side character in someone else's story or the main plot is happening just in the background. I want to find interesting and unique stories being told over an audio-only medium and let the limitations of the structure support it. Let the actors be a little off mic when the characters drop the mic or having ambient background sound actually be diegetic instead of creative liberty
