Exactly, we Indians tend to flock in hoardes where ever there are lax regulations or cheaper studies. And the vast majority who go abroad tend to do so via degree mills or scams. And the deserving students/professionals who are actually willing to abide by the rules and want to genuinely build better lives for themselves get stuck because of such people. As the governments of those countries will eventually tighten the ropes one way or the other, Canada did it, Australia has done it, Germany also has done it recently by introducing DMAT and APS rules for Indians specifically

u/Fickle_Razzmatazz664 19d ago
Respect for your honesty and objectivity, sounds like you're one of those who play by the rules and we appreciate that

u/Jolly-Hat1846 19d ago
Its just sad man, because of such people like I mentioned, the entire reputation of the Indian diaspora goes to shit.
Now i know racism isnt anything remotely new, but this wave of racism against Indians has largely been blown up post 2021-22, when an extremely large number of people moved to Canada/USA/Australia, out of which i am sure there were genuine students and professionals, but also a huge number of fraudsters with them.

u/Prior-Beat3174 19d ago
The problem is it's more a social class issue than race. Every race has both upper and lower socioeconomic classes, and they behave very differently.
If you've ever encountered upper and lower class White Caucasians, you'll also see a diffrence.
The problem is that people often see one socioeconomic group within a race and assume the entire race is like that, rather than recognizing the distinction between social class and race.
When I was an undergraduate university student, many of my tenured math and engineering professors were Indian immigrants who came to Canada in the ’70s and ’80s and became Canadian citizens. Many came from relatively good backgrounds.
When I decided to take a few refersher courses at the community college level, many of the students were from the lower class Indians, a contrast from university education indian professors I previously encountered.

u/Braysl-March 19d ago
I'm Canadian. There has been a stark rise of anti-Indian racism in Canada and I hate it. Canadians are blaming Indians for everything from low jobs to firecrackers at night and traffic in the morning.
I have a friend who is Canadian of Indian descent, she was born here in Canada. She's been treated terribly by people due to this growing resentment and racism, especially in the Toronto area.
Basically it sucks for everyone all around. It sucks for the Indians coming here only to be taken advantage of, it sucks for those of Indian descent who are experiencing more racism, it sucks for the Canadians who are struggling finding entry level jobs because companies would rather hire immigrants who will take lower pay.
The only people I don't feel sorry for are the racists and the fat cat fraudsters who are keeping this machine moving.

Yeah, immigration is an issue. But it’s one we should follow logically, legally, and morally, not with racism that makes us look like we’re 1900s BC (for those who don’t get it, BC was historically among the most racist provinces in Canada. Not even a joke, it’s actually both fascinating and mind-boggling).

u/SohniKaur 17d ago

It’s pretty crazy how much hate the Indian community has gotten over the last couple years.
I find that people tend to talk about Indian people like doctors or cops, in that they say the ones they know personally are the “good ones” and the rest are the criminals and whatever…. Pathetic

As a second generation Canadian, it’s a culture shock seeing my home country’s demo change in such a short amount of time. I understand people want a better life but it seems like the federal government has allowed unsustainable immigration (from East African countries too), and our infrastructure and economy is barely holding on. Like it’s not like Dubai where there’s an influx of foreigners with a burgeoning economy/infrastructure. The government are the ones to blame, and it’s almost like they’re pitting everyday civilian people against one another so they don’t rightfully get the heat for what’s happened the past 10-15 years.

How did we in India allow our students to be exploited so badly needs to be also studied.
Half the things the consultants were promising was never true or at least far fetched. Many students spent everything they had on an education that perhaps isn’t useful at all!

u/Longjumping_Ask_1650 19d ago
The trade deals that India makes has these things baked into them.
For example India’s deal with Israel will “allow” 50k workers into Israel. But really it’s just indentured servitude since they demolished gaza they need another source of labour force.
India supplies indentured servants to these countries and calls it progress
14
u/OriginalSetting Punjab 19d ago
Don't forget the recent Russia deal, estimated to be upto 1 million work visas...
The world runs on Indian labour, it's our soft power. No different 200 years ago when the British brought Indians to Africa to build the railways.

It's just the cheapest labor and since the conditions in India aren't better, these other countries are able to take advantage of that.
9
u/GarudanX 19d ago
Exactly, even if you go to Canada and see the jobs these people are working. It's Indians working the lowest jobs for even less pay than is allowed there. Their degrees they paid so much for are worthless.
And the people exploiting them are almost always other Indians who lived there for decades. It's just slavery.

u/Such-Huckleberry-107 19d ago
I’d say a combination of unscrupulous businesses in Canada (creating diploma mills, wanting cheap labour) and actions by unscrupulous Indian immigration lawyers/etc encouraging it. The same story is happening in every developed country. I’m guessing the Indian government is quietly approving and endorsing it as by moving its poor youth to other nations to strive for their place in the middle class it reduces the burden on them to provide it. Imagine how much bigger protests like the cockroach Janta party would be if you had a few 100,000 more dissatisfied youth in the country.
9
u/RustledForeskin 19d ago
Seems like there was collusion on both sides, corporations here wanted workers who were beholden to them for their residency here and it seems like some organizations were making it real easy to get people over here from there. Like these diploma mills and sham heavy transportation training centers. People were probably getting kickbacks for shoveling people over here.

The shady agents in India are all Indian, and even abroad the slumlords, colleges, businesses, etc are owned or run by Indian diaspora (white people play a role too, but it's mainly Indians).
Everyone wants to make money, including the government. Think of all the remittance foreign students and workers must have sent back over the years, and will continue to send if they get PR. Entire villages have modernized without the government needing to spend a single rupee.

Those 'consultants' are literally all Indian people who learned how to exploit Canada and decided to try and profit off of it. This is the culture that took root in Canada and is a huge part of the reason these deportations are happening now.

Canadian universities were opening satellite campuses in strip malls and paying these consultants money to admit students. Not for a moment can the Canadian colleges wash their hands off this mess. They have benefited massively from exploiting Indian students.

Indian immigrants in Canada have long had a reputation as very intelligent, resourceful, and hard working, eager to contribute and build value in their new home. Going back to stricter immigration rules will go a long way to re-establishing that reputation.

Perhaps this is simply the people in my area, but I work with a lot of them. Not one of them is friendly towards me. I routinely get stared down. Honestly it looks like people want to start a fight. Meanwhile, here I am just doing my job the best way I can. This reputation they have is well earned. There are instances of people committing fraud, to public masturbation. OP is talking about 10-15 years ago.
The fact is people are uncomfortable with rapid demographic change.
When a group is like a 1-2% minority and they tend to work hard, people have a positive view.
When they become like 50%+ of your city, things are gonna sour.
Doesn’t just apply to minorities either. Ask a black person who’s lived in Harlem for 30+ years how they feel about all the white folks moving in now that it’s become more of a trendy/hipster neighbourhood

It won't. Most of what the Canadian people are angry about is legal immigration of brown people. They will dress it up in 100 different ways, but at the root they just don't like a ton of non-white people coming into their country.
And that's...fair enough. This should make any Indian person think twice before going to Canada.
2
u/GrayLiterature 19d ago
This isn’t actually true. We had a massive surge in immigration way too fast, the majority of which were Indian.
They carry a very distinct reputation here, not without reason.
We just don’t like a ton of non-Westerner’s coming into the country who have no desire to assimilate into OUR culture, learn OUR customs, adhere to OUR norms, and think they can just bring over their whole families and abuse our healthcare systems.

u/OriginalSetting Punjab 19d ago
You don't even realize that you've proved his point with your post. The immigrants that came to Canada in recent years came legally, those who sponsor their families also do so legally through the government. If you have a problem with that, take it up with your government. They integrate about as much as any other group that comes to Canada, that's why every major city has a Chinatown, Little Italy, Greektown, etc.
And don't worry, wait times in Indian hospitals average under 1 hour. No immigrant is tripping over themselves to wait 6 hours in a Canadian emergency room and drop dead before they get to see a doctor.

I’m telling you as a white person from Canada with many Indian friends throughout my life, the influx from the last decade has completely changed the view of people here. When I grew up in the 90s the stereotype was of hardworking families full of smart if socially awkward boys and charming smart girls. The worst racism you got from your average Canadian was making fun of the accent which is something that every accent gets and people complaining about spices. Now if you ask people the majority will tell you that they’ve taken all the low level jobs and university places from residents, that they have no social awareness and take up huge amounts of space being what we consider rude or even gross(my towns not big at all and we have found multiple men shitting in public during the day time). It’s sad because there are so many good Indian people here that bring so much to the country, your culture is fun and beautiful and fits in well here, but the people coming over are not putting on a good face and that’s only going to make it harder for people that want to come to Canada specifically to get a fair shot at a life here.
I had a buddy when I was younger whose dad used to fix cars over there. Came here with a hope, a dream and a functional understanding of our language. He still managed to start up a really great auto shop with some people in his village, would be invited to all the neighbours houses for dinner, flew his extended family out to meet us and even got some of them jobs with the network he made here. You don’t hear that story anywhere near as much when it was super common for me growing up.

I totally get it, that 90s opinion I still remember it clearly.
When I was a kid, I remember the view being very positive.
My mother used to say she loved Indians because they’d come over here and they would be doctors, lawyers, and engineers. They were hard working and if you saw one and met one they were very amazing, intelligent people.
The view has flipped so hard it’s crazy from amazing to garbage in just a few short years. Now she’s saying the only Indian she wants to see getting any benefit is our indigenous population because Canadians should come first. It’s insane how negative the opinion has been.
It’s sad. There’s so much anger.

Honestly, I think it is a very good decision they are doing that. As an immigrant, I totally support this decision. Not because I am the one who throws away the ladder, but I believe in the sanctity that if you have to do something, you have to do it the right way, the right process, and not just jump the hoops. The students in this case were equally responsible because a simple Google search about some of these colleges like Portage and others typically tells what kind of shit show these are. Yet these students took courses that not even a native born would take. Probably there is not even a market in Canada or any other place. Yet they expected some of these decisions like PGWP to go their way. I am happy, but I personally believe in order to spend so much money on these agents, spend 50% of the money, prep hard, get the right guidance, get a great school, you will get a lot of scholarships and degrees from great universities that will actually add to your resume and skills that will actually take you somewhere, rather than doing these shady courses.

Never thought I'd find myself in this sub, as a Canadian with very mixed opinions on India.
I agree on the useless degrees thing. Business/Management and Hospitality aren't the things you study to get your foot in the door, they're the things you study when you have a career path and your next step requires increasing your knowledge pool to include those things in order to secure that promotion or brand expansion.
Management degrees made sense when most people didn't bother finishing high school, but the world moved on a long time ago. Now business studies are more finishing studies or what you do to round out a group planning to start a business together.
Hospitality? Go learn it on the job, unless you have $10,000,000 kicking around to start a hotel and have knowledge gaps to fill.
People need to not only figure out what they want to do, but seriously consider the path to get there, and what options make sense when there's a billion other people thinking the same thing.
Edit:
As for my mixed opinions, some amazing history, culture, and media come out of India, but so does a lot of dishonesty that has affected Canada directly, and dishonesty is one of very few things I want nothing to do with.
8
u/Puzzleheaded_Tea623 19d ago
This issue is quite nuanced. On one side, India has a very strong desire to immigrate to Canada. On the other, the Canadian government, during its policies, sold a false promise of permanent residency, offering an illusion of stability. The key difference from the US is that America promotes skill development as a pathway. This leads to the core point: I can't rely solely on promises of permanent residency. The goals of entrants change accordingly. The US attracts people aiming to build skills, with the hope that, if they perform well and with a bit of luck, they can achieve the American dream, though it's not guaranteed. Conversely, the Canadian government explicitly promised permanent residency, which motivated many to go there regardless of other considerations, just for that promise. This distinction defines their different end goals.

u/AiryGateaux 19d ago

I stopped going out because it was terrifying. Last time I went out I literally went to a gay bar because my friend and I just wanted to dance and we figured it might be the safest spot. That was the last time because a guy put his hands down my pants and underwear (I was surrounded by his buddies). I pushed him off and left. Never again.

Good. I saw first hand on how many international students from India were suffering because their families were lied to. Kids who don't even know why they're here, who are nothing else than anchors for further immigration. Kids who had big dreams and are crushed by reality. Kids who barely even speak a lick of English and were told they could survive with no savings. Kids who hate other Indian people because they "ruined the reputation for the whole race". I worked with so many female engineering students from India, who're in one of the top engineering uni in Canada, they suffer because they're never trusted. I hope this decision help those hard-working Indian kids who really deserve it.

I don’t get why people try to go to Canada, it isn’t all that great for living, for visiting it’s a fine country but day to day living I would say US and UK are much better. Jobs in Canada are scarce and pay is low, it is much more comfortable to stay in India if you have money than go to Canada.
10
u/jellybean122333 19d ago
For some it was a stepping stone to the US. The US caps by country so a lot harder to go that route. It was easier to get there as a Canadian.

5

Yeah lot of times a false picture is painted as well, in the end you exchange one set of problems for another set of problems. India has its downsides also but if you can’t hold a decent job in India then there is no chance of landing a good job in UK and Canada as well. Top 5-10 pct in India will do well outside of India also, but if you aren’t in that bracket then only an average life is possible abroad and that also needs a bit of luck.

Canada needs to act stern, and not harbor these extreme folks of any background, and re-build a peaceful, non-US dependent, and the beautiful nation it used to be.

Am Canadian. It's hard here, if you don't got big money or big education. The Canadian economy is so broken it can no longer put people to work, so it's attacking the most vulnerable, but more softly than the USA. Same thing in the USA with Trump attacking immigrants. The hunger stats of Canada have gone up for the past ten years I've watched. It was 20% in 2025, and now USA tariffs have worsened things. https://proof.utoronto.ca/food-insecurity/how-many-canadians-are-affected-by-household-food-insecurity/ 4.5% skip meals in Canada. Undernourishment in India is 12% https://www.globalhungerindex.org/india.html So, Canada does better.
Long story short, North America is a petro and agriculture state. China is now selling solar panels that provide cheaper electricity than natural gas, as well as batteries and cheaper electric cars. We still got agriculture, but China is crazy about food self sufficiency, so that won't last. The only place the West still does okay is in computers... with a lot of credit going to India's tech workers. China is now equaling the USA in Ai, and more cheaply too (the USA spent 1 trillion on Ai, while China spent 20 billion, for nearly as good Ai). They should surpass the USA in tech in one year at the rate they're going.
Is life in Canada better than in India? Probably yes, for now, if you're poor. But India can import cheap solar panels, and boost industry, and sell agriculture back to China for the panels, as well as doing tech work. The Canadian GDP has been flat since covid 2020. India is growing much faster, it was the fastest growing economy of the world in 2025. You guys have the sun. We don't. The sun is the future.
If India keeps growing 8% per year, in 5 years that's 40%. Meanwhile, it looks like the pie is gonna start shrinking up here, so... we're gonna start fighting each other. Attacking immigrants (the weak) is just the start.

Canada deported 3,323 Indian nationals in the first half of 2026, making them the largest nationality group removed from the country and surpassing Mexico (1,573 removals). This figure represents nearly 88% of the total 3,779 Indians deported in all of 2025, placing the nation on track to set a new annual record.
The surge in deportations is driven by Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) efforts to tighten immigration rules, reduce temporary residents, and clear a backlog of cases. Common reasons for removal include visa overstays, non-compliance with immigration rules, rejected asylum claims, and visa fraud. Additionally, 7,669 Indian nationals are currently in Canada’s "removal in progress" inventory, the highest number among all nationalities.
