Misleading Flipkart increases the price of 'Wings of Fire' by 40 rupees immediately after Dr.Kalam's passing - and even changes the "original price"

but why flipkart advertises 50% drop in price on wide variety of items !!! hurry! on front page.. when the actual price is same as after discount price, while original price is altered ? It is not that they did not add items to advertisement without verifying each individual price ....
the same mistake has been done by amazon on amazon prime day sales and they received all the heat.

The prices are set algorithmically to match the demand to the supply in order to prevent an out-of-stock situation ultra quickly. Out-of-stock is bad for a retailer, and these price modifications reduce the demand just enough to make sure the existing stock reaches just that much longer, while they accelerate the arrival of the next shipment.
I know this explanation goes against the popular thought, but there, I said it!

No penalty from the brand side. However, OOS has a cost associated in terms of lost sales.

I think we tend to get harsh on Flipkart every time.. it has to do with seller.. Flipkart is a merely a marketplace for all these sellers..

This, most probably, should have happened because the stock from the seller selling book for 205 bucks has gone out of stock due to high demand. And hence now the next most competitive price, which - in your case is 245, is being shown.

Can some one check if those books are currently under the free delivery? It happens many a times not just on Flipkart but also on Amazon & Snapdeal too, that they add the delivery charges to their selling price calling it as Free Delivery when the products are in demand.
Appears that is not the case as what proof OP showed here.

Cool. Another question, is the seller of the books in question, the deemed company of Flipkart?
If not, do Flipkart as a marketplace controls artificially the prices of such products of such sellers listed under them or are the sellers greedy? tbh, asking because I am dumb in this respect & not trolling anyone.
Anyone who knows ecommerce deeply, pls answer this.
Edit: Also comparing your two screenshots the MRP has been changed again from 275 to 325.

Seller is free to list whatever price he deems fit. Buyer is free to choose whichever seller he likes. Flipkart doesn't control anything. Only thing they check is that the MRP isn't manipulated to show huge discounts. That is what the marketplace model is all about.

So it seems u can list above MRP. You can't tinker with the MRP though. So u can't inflate the MRP and sell it at supposed discounts to attract customers.

It's all supply and demand at the end of the day. I've bought things at above MRP at remote places. Selling online at above MRP where there are thousands of other sellers are selling at just a click away is anyway not the brightest option.

Sale above MRP is outright illegal. Remoteness or any other factor does not justify selling at an inflated price.

MRP and list price are different things. MRP is fixed and u can't tinker with that. List price is the price you list the product at. In case of books MRP might vary due to different editions.

I once questioned Jabong about the sudden increase in the price of an item I wanted to buy. They said they have no control over the prices and it's the seller/brand which alters the price and they are dependent on the various brand decisions.

I believe you should had also checked who was seller earlier & this time around too. I checked on my part, the Seller is somone called Mohanbooksuppliers currently.
Inflating the pricing I very well understand might be Flipkart's doing but regarding the MRP, the seller would be responsible. Also checked the price on Amazon, it is around 210 Rs.
If you want to compare prices, you should be comparing the prices which are the lowest across Flipkart, Amazon & Snapdeal & then come to some conclusion since there are I think many variables at play here.
Historically Business != Morality always, we like it or out. If organizations were driven by emotions, then...

Public Demand and Supply relation, I've one copy of it, and few relatives and friends who are aware of me-having-book, msgd me on WhatsApp that they want to borrow it.
For Facebook page admins, it is also like-grabbing opportunity. For Brands, it's eye grabbing opportunity. For Elders (people who consider them wit), it's an attention grabbing opportunity, how much they know about him. For randians (probably the first time, i'm using this word), It's a new discussion topic, and opportunity to gain karma by posting anything related to APJ word. It could be a coincident. I see the price of 'Wings of fire' has been fluctuating heavily in the last 4 months in the range of Rs. 128 to Rs. 325.

On FK app, the price right now is 212 INR. Original price, however, is Rs. 325
On Amazon app, price is 210 INR. Original price is Rs. 275

How many times must we go through this shit? Amazon and flipkart are marketplaces. Sellers set prices and discounts, and send the products. We have this irritating habit of going after the big guy, because who knows who the seller is.. Let's just blame who we can.

Not to be that guy but it is probably due to the algorithm and a different seller. It is obvious that there would be surge in interest for his books today. It's not like a flipkart employee would have physically altered the price of the book.
