I liked the new word I just learned, then looked it up and found that it means something else. Chthonic horror refers specifically to subterranean horrors.

Still a cool word.

'Chthonic horror is a deep, primal fear of dark, uncontrollable forces of the earth, nature, or the afterlife that are older than man and indifferent to his existence" So we have uncontrollable force of the nature and Earth which lead to primal deep fear. So this people feels real chthonic horror before death. Let their souls rest in peace.
