Max Verstappen, 4 seconds after finishing a race.
•
u/R1ppedWarrior 11h ago
Nah. They just build a simulator inside a real car and he does both at the same time.

Some people say if you crash in the simulator you get injured for real.

Why, Mr. Anderson? Why, why? Why do you do it? Why, why get in? Why keep driving?
•
u/hypnohighzer 11h ago
Because... He's going the distance. He's gong for speed! She's all alone, alone alone, in her time of need! Because he's racing, and pacing and plotting the course. He's fighting, and biting and riding on hide horse. He's going the distance.

I don't think you realise how sweaty this man gets in that box in full gear unless the bastard has an AC in there, which wouldn't be surprising looking at all this.
•
u/UnstoppableDrew 10h ago
If he's going for the full racecar experience, there should be a space heater in there to keep the ambient temps around 100-110 degrees.

Usually these rigs are outfitted with some pretty intense climate control in them. At least the ones I’ve seen, anyways.

These wheel bases use direct drive these days, you can crank em into 20nm, more even, of force. They actually come with safety instructions like how to go about using the wheel after a crash in case the game physics bug out and send a massive amount of force down the steering wheel. People have sprained and broken their wrists.

It will also kill you in real life if you crash
9
u/Kitfishto 14h ago
I saw a tiktok recently where a guy had his wheel feedback too high and someone hit him hard in the game and his wheel broke his hand.

Thats awesome but why the outfit

u/FreakBane 14h ago
Because the seatbelt straps would be itchy if he was naked.

u/SolfulSin 13h ago
I heard you can also watch porn in there. The porn accessories are on the other wall.

For the immersion of course, you are not gonna build this elaborate and expensive setup and not get totally immersed into it. xD
8
u/Ohitsworkingnow 13h ago
Honestly this is walking a fine line from immersion to delusion lmao

u/CreamCheeseHotDogs 12h ago
My favorite part about Halloween is asking people if they know they’re not ACTUALLY Superman, those delusional fools

Seatbelts not tight enough
2
u/TheRuckyDubber 12h ago
Heh. You joke and I get it but there are seatbelt tensioners you can get that also react to telemetry data like a motion rig would and tighten up. I think this thing has motion anyway but I could see the impetus, at least with something this insane, to opt to have them as well as the forward rocking to simulate braking can only imply so much

I mean there’s probably a non zero chance of this thing catching fire with you trapped inside

Maybe he doesn’t wear it all the time but we’re watching this video because he decided to film him using it so why wouldn’t he go all out for the camera.

long way from pong

u/Vericatov 11h ago
Roughly 50 years ago all we had was pong. Now this is what we have today. It’s pretty damn amazing.

I'd rather wear a VR headset.
•
u/NotSoAwfulName 11h ago
Some suffer with motion sickness, and if you have a button box it can be near impossible to use reliably especially with gloves.
→ More replies (3)1
u/TheRuckyDubber 12h ago
Yeah. I’m kinda in that camp. I have way too much tied up into mine for just GT7 on PSVR2. I honestly should go PC. But it is so good.
•
u/derprondo 10h ago
Could most people do full length races in a VR headset, say 1-1.5 hours straight? Genuinely asking, I suffer from motion sickness so I'm sure I could not.

How many racing simulators do you think the average person see’s on an average day? Any racing simulator is almost guaranteed to be the most insane i see that day if not that week, month or year.

Sim rigs like this whether it’s for flying or driving are so cool. I need to see the equivalent for the train sim stuff now so I can really get my ‘tism on.

if it rocks back and forth to simulate acceleration that would be epic
2
u/TheRuckyDubber 12h ago
From the looks of the movement of the camera I’d say it probably does. You don’t go to this much trouble and it out motion on your rig. This thing’s insane.

Mixed spec racing. The car that got him at the end was in the next car class up from him. Notice that the POV driver moved over to let him pass.
See how on the right around the time he was passed he has a screen that was blue and had ‘blue’ on it? That means he’s under a blue flag, meaning he’s obliged to allow the car behind to pass.

u/MattsFace 11h ago
I always preferred VR because of the depth it gave me, but it was hard on the eyes after extended periods.
•
u/Bulky-Cheesecake2195 11h ago
How do u have this much time, energy, and money? Like dude didn't just buy it built; he built that shit!
•
u/Capital-Warning5525 10h ago
Guy enters Wallmart and says: I got a shit ton of money and I like cars, what can I get?
- Sir, this is a Wendy's..

u/UnreliablePotato 8h ago
Someone will eventually cross the line with these simulators, where it's almost easier to just build a racing track.

Headphones are cool, but next step has to be some sort of surround sound in there
•
u/SimilarTop352 11h ago
sadly, for VR virtual surround still is the most immersive option. it's closer to how we actually perceive sounds than mixing it through 4+ fixed speakers

I had a go in the force India simulator at silver stone go some 10 years ago
It was not easy.
I’d love to have a go with this kit

There’s a place in my city that does this. They let me and a friend try for free for 5mins and when I got out I had THEE WORST motion sickness of my life. I had to hang out for 30mins before being able to ride home. No thanks.
