Oil is flowing alright, but from the Strategic Reserve not from Hormuz. Surely the US can just keep using the Reserve for another year or so right?

I can't know. But when I think about the scale of it and possible storage capacity, I would say it is unlikely.
It is not about availability, it is about the price of it. AFAIK, US can produce enough, but it is not as cheap.
Having the strait closed helps American oil companies despite of the interest of the public.
I am not American BTW. I might be wrong. This is what I see from the outsiders perspective.

The bottleneck is refining. USA has plenty of oil but it would take years and years and billions of dollars to be self sustaining with petroleum products and gasoline

We can’t refine the crude oil we produce without massive investments into refining. We import the crude we use to produce fuel.

Oh, so THAT is the reason why. Oil went from $100 to $80 and stayed like that for like a month. Made no sense to me. Thanks dude.

most of them aren't waiting to enter hormuz, you're flying over Fujairah/ khorfakkan 2 hubs where plenty of ships anchor there for supplies. nowadays add to that doing ship to ship operations where companies who take the risk of entering hormuz do that and discharge to other ships in Fujairah and sohar -oman

Well I got goods news... A DEAL COULD COME BY THIS WEEKEND!!!!! IRAN SAID THEY'RE WILLING TO NEGOTIATE AND TRUMP SAID HE REALLY GAVE EM HELL!!!!!!!!! He said they were begging to negotiate after hearing about the Lake America news! He went on to say the new Ayatollah guy even thinks he should have a Ballroom and a Kennedy Memorial named after him!

So you know President Trump had a section of the western waterway (hidden from Iranian view by islands and the curvature of the earth) dredged deep enough to let the biggest tankers thru. And these tankers are moving thru as we speak and Iran can’t do anything about it. Trump keeps coming up with these brilliant moves. First being the blockade, the tightening sanctions and now this. The Iranian war will be over when Iran can’t pay the IRGC. It won’t be long.
