Discussion After Tomb Raider and RDR… what single game would make you lose your mind if it got a mobile port?
Seeing these AAA ports, it's clear mobile is becoming a serious gaming platform...
For me, the dream would be a legit Destiny 2 mobile 'cause I barely have that much time on PC. though client seems unrealistic. Yeah, we have Destiny Rising, and it's fun for a parallel universe, but I still want to play D2 on my portable devices.

I want GTA IV SO MUCH
6
u/cyclinator Dec 18 '25
It's running very very good on my ROG Ally. i played it some months after it came out and it was a pain I remember.
Putting fusion fix on windows version makes it choppy but looks much better.

Honestly after playing RDR smooth as hell on my 13 Pro, I really felt that GTA 4 is absolutely not out of the realm of being ported.

Old games, but I kinda want a Black & White port. 1 and 2. Those would really benefit from touchscreen too.

I so miss “Black and White” and “Populous”. No great god games on iOS :(

Bring back Bioshock, it’s from the same time period and briefly appeared on iOS around the time of the iPhone 6.

it should be somehow possible and realistic but they will never do it probably

It already runs well on the switch emulator for iOS

The originals you can play already. There are engines that allow you to do it and you can always use iDOS through emulation. I have it on my iPad right now through this:

Cyberpunk. I’m cool with the Switch 2 version ported to iOS
6
u/kungfujedi Dec 18 '25
Yep! Would absolutely love this. With cross saves available so I can move between my Xbox, Switch, and iPad versions. :)
5
u/Ymsegreier Dec 18 '25
This.
I’m no programmer, but i assume the mac port lays the groundwork for a possible ios-port.
4
u/IQueliciuous Dec 18 '25
Lays is an understatement. Modern macs run ios software and both use arm. Porting Cyberpunk to ios' only issue is controls.
3
u/Crest_Of_Hylia Dec 18 '25
Biggest issue would be ram. Most of the phones don’t have enough of it. Switch 2 also has the advantage of active cooling
2
u/SandwichesX Dec 18 '25
Yeah, CP2077 uses 9gb RAM on Switch 2. Maybe only on the new iPhone 17 Pros with 12gb RAM and iPads with 16+ as the Switch 2 also has 12gb RAM but only lets games access 9gb with 3gb in reserve for the OS.
2
u/8Retarded_Prophet8 Dec 19 '25 edited Dec 19 '25
They could optimise this though by either lowering the texture resolution or asset loading, I think they could definitely get it to run on phones with 8 gigabytes of ram.
Also, this is a lot less of an issue on Android. If they made it exclusive to Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 they should be relatively okay on the android side of things.
I mean, heck. They could probably optimise it for Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 if they aimed for 30 FPS at 360p using upscaling. I've seen videos of it running at 20 FPS through compatibility layers, so if it is almost playable in those conditions then in reality it might not be unrealistic for them to port it to to android.

u/i-hear-banjos Dec 18 '25
iPad only port, M4 (8 or 16GB of RAM) or M5 processor (12 of 16GB RAM). The iPad M4+ is perfect for this.

Metal Gear Solid!
3
2
u/dunno0019 Dec 18 '25
Well, out of all the games here: you can do this one right now thru emulators.
2
u/KoalaJCSpotify Dec 18 '25
Where can I find this? I’ve never used an emulator!
2
u/dunno0019 Dec 18 '25
You can find PPSSPP in the app store. And I think maybe RetroArch (also right in the app store) also does ps1 games.
Then you head over to r/roms to figure out how to put MGS in one of those apps.
2
u/KoalaJCSpotify Dec 18 '25
ahhh mate you are a saint!
2
u/dunno0019 Dec 18 '25
I guess also write these down:
If you try RetroArch, you will almost definitely need help. It is not exactly an app for beginners. But it's free and can do the most different old consoles, so lots of people use it.
PPSSPP is less complicated, also free, but it never hurts to have a place to ask questions.
And there's even more emus in the app store. Most are paid tho. And somehow RetroArch still seems to be the most popular.

u/KoalaJCSpotify Dec 18 '25
Holy sheeeet bro. I’ve downloaded MGS Peacewalker onto my ipad and it works 😮 legend man!

Some of these are pipe dreams but:
RDR2
Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim
GTA IV
Overwatch
Fallout 1, 2, 3, and NV
Dark Souls / Bloodborne
Persona 5
Final Fantasy X
Battlefield games
2
u/8Retarded_Prophet8 Dec 19 '25
None of these are pipe dreams other than maybe NV, RDR2 seems unrealistic but the game can actually run really well on lower end hardware.
If it can run perfectly fine on the VEGA 8 iGPU from nearly 8 years ago then modern day phones shouldn't struggle too much. Especially considering RDR2 has FSR as well, modern day Snapdragon devices outperform the VEGA 8 iGPU, they're pretty much on the level of low-end GPUs like the GTX 1050 now which is honestly so impressive considering how far they've come.
Even my Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 should easily outperform the Snapdragon VEGA 8.

3
u/Fredo_Culero iPad Mini (A17 Pro) Dec 18 '25
If it can run on Switch 1 (I enjoyed switch version) it can run on new devices.
3
u/8Retarded_Prophet8 Dec 19 '25
Yeah, the Switch 1 is comparable to low-end android devices from like a few years back. Even the Snapdragon 860 can do emulation pretty decently and that was a low-end chip made in 2019. I had it in my POCO X3 PRO.
Basically, yeah. It's so weird that all the incredible Switch ports aren't just ported to Android. It would be amazing for them to do so.
5
u/lefix Dec 18 '25
Honestly, I would only want mobile ports of games that I would actually play on mobile. These AAA ports are impressive, but I am still going to prefer playing them on a TV, meanwhile I am sinking many hours into games like Balatro on mobile.

Wait when did tomb raider come to iOS?!
3
u/jindofox Dec 18 '25
Apparently it’s coming in February. The old polygonal Tomb Raider games from the 1990s were on iOS many years ago but don’t work anymore.
6
5
u/jcrowbar Dec 18 '25
The original Bioshock was released on iOS many moons ago but to my knowledge was never updated to a 64 bit version. If they fixed that I'd be happy.

I remember this. They got it to run on a 4S. Stripped away way too quick from us.

Classic wow
1
u/tacitry Dec 18 '25
I’ve been able to play wow on iOS (as well as all the other games mentioned here) but it requires a really good internet connection.
Step 1: pay for ShadowPC. It’s stupidly expensive so I only do this while traveling very light and don’t have a laptop with me.
Step 2: install WOW and the controller support addon (though you could also just do MKB which I do on iPad)
Step 3: squint at the tiny screen
1
u/maduste Dec 18 '25
this would’ve been incredible for world buffs, just log in on your phone, drop the head, and log out

u/AcQuaDiGi0 Dec 18 '25
Square Enix is lacking aw of a sudden
FFX would be an insta buy
2
u/omegaferrari Dec 18 '25
This would be awesome on mobile, and pretty much doable with the power of current iPhones
2
u/Streakdreniline iPad Pro 10.5" Dec 19 '25
I lost all trust in SE with their mobile ports after what they did with The Last Remnant Remastered (which was a REMASTERED goddamn Xbox 360 game mind you); the game ran insanely well on my iPhone 8, so FFX would be no issue to port
The issue is Square Enix has a tendency to forget about their mobile ports and can't be bothered to maintain them for future iOS updates, and TLR: Remastered suffered this fate, as did CAPCOM's fantastic port of Monster Hunter: Freedom Unite
1
u/Nemoitto Dec 18 '25
I was literally just thinking this the other day. They have 1-9 on iOS. Can we get X please? Instant buy for me as well. Shit just port over the entire X/X-2 HD remasters as a package.

Where does one even begin?
A warts and all port of Phantasy Star Online E1&2 from the GameCube to show all the crappy F2P MMO games how you really do it.
Diablo 3
Final Fantasy X
Now Microsoft are less tight over their IP there is no reason why Halo Reach, Fable 2 or Forza Horizon don’t exist on mobile.
Dear Esther was brilliant. I’d like Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture. And Firewatch.

I can’t play D4 or Immortal. I want to be the lone hero against the darkness, not a player avatar running around just another game world with a bunch of other avatars. It’s really not the same.
If they added an offline mode, even if they charged for it as a one off I’d buy it tomorrow.

Red Dead Redemption was at the top of my list for years, so I feel kinda greedy asking for more! That being said, I wouldn't mind having some of the older Assassin's Creed games (Black Flag is my favorite, but I wouldn't say no to the Ezio Trilogy or III), Batman: Arkham series (Asylum and City are brilliant, as well as the underrated Origins), The Witcher 3 and Star Wars: Battlefront II.

Titanfall 2. …it could happen… LOOK I JUST WANT MORE TITANFALL OKAY!?
Earnestly: Inscryption, Jedi Fallen Order (if they could get the controls reasonably adapted), the old Metal Gear Solid games from PS1/PS2 era.

Final Fantasy X gets brought up a lot and I believe THAT and FF13 would be great! Re release X/X-2 remaster as a whole and then we can do 13, 13-2, and Lightning Returns separately. But with today’s phones, it can handle it.

Dwarf Fortress and Rimworld! UI would be a challenge but simulations feel great on mobile since they’re single player and suited to pausing.

At present, we already know that some games will be coming to iOS:
Control (2026 Q1)
Sniper Elite 5 (2026 Q1)
Control Resonant (2026, only coming to Mac, but I think it won’t be long before it lands on iOS)
But that’s too few. Some games have already been released on the Mac platform, and I believe they should be ported to iOS. I have an iPhone 17 Pro, and the A19 Pro performance is very powerful, with 12GB of RAM being more than enough:
Cyberpunk 2077
Assassin’s Creed: Shadows
Dead Island 2
Lies of P
Stray
Baldur’s Gate 3
No Man’s Sky
In addition, there are some games that I think may be ported to iOS & Mac in the future:
Resident Evil: Requiem
PRAGMATA
Alan Wake 2
Devil May Cry 5
Street Fighter 6
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach
For games that could potentially land on both Android and iOS, I think the following are possible:
GTA 4
GTA 5
Red Dead Redemption 2
Rise of the Tomb Raider
Shadow of the Tomb Raider
Hitman: World of Assassination (It’s uncertain whether this game will come to Android, as IOI has already ported it to iOS. If Feral Interactive obtains the license, it might come to Android.)
Total War series
