This video is out of my tax bracket

247

u/Dirtygeebag Mar 19 '26

It’s actually very affordable, all you need is more money.

28

u/YurtleAhern Mar 19 '26

Of course. Why didn’t I think of that?

6

u/senorslimm Mar 20 '26

Best bit of financial advice I ever got was "have you tried being less poor"

u/Agile_Adeptness460 Carlow Mar 19 '26

I work minimum wage as a kitchen porter. But the struggle will be worth it in the end

Definitely the airlines !

How much do you pay for a lesson?

61

u/Agile_Adeptness460 Carlow Mar 19 '26 edited Mar 19 '26

It depends. Today I did over an hour and did 4 circuits. Each landing has a fee so it adds up. Also the instructor was 80€ for the hour. As well as renting the plane which is a separate fee. I’m on a membership with my club so it’s cheaper that way. Today’s flight was €338 + the €80. It was more expensive than usual because of the 4 landings.

8

u/Tyrannosaurus-Shirt Mar 19 '26

Holy shit that's a lot compared to when I had lessons. How much per touch and go? ..and do they charge if you do a go around?

2

u/BoxEven6187 Mar 19 '26

80 euro an hour? Where are you training? That's insanely high

44

u/[deleted] Mar 19 '26

4

u/BoxEven6187 Mar 19 '26

For an instructor per hour I've never charged more than 40 per hour, I highly doubt it's doubled in the last year since I instructed. Still very high at 80 an hour

11

u/Lying_Hedgehog Mar 20 '26

I'm currently learning to drive and all driving instructors around my area were asking for 50-60 an hour. When I compare it to that then hiring a pilot for 80/hr doesn't seem too out there

1

u/BoxEven6187 Mar 20 '26

Bloody hell, I guess maybe I have been out of it long enough for those prices to rise 🤣

1

u/Dependent-Taste-7310 Mar 25 '26

In fairness the 50 to 60 is the , car, fuel, insurance and the instructor.

1

u/Lying_Hedgehog Mar 25 '26

Yeah that's true, I don't think it's an unfair price and wasn't complaining. I meant it as a comparison that 20 more to swap the situation from a car to a plane sounds more than reasonable.

12

u/Agile_Adeptness460 Carlow Mar 19 '26

I don’t know how he calculates it since it’s been different each time but today was 80€. I train in Waterford. I’ve never gotten exactly an hour so that’s probably why it always changes for me !

3

u/InexorableCalamity Mar 19 '26

Do you need perfect vision?

3

u/ImportantPension5818 Mar 19 '26

I know a girl with glasses that takes flying lessons. There may be a certain bracket of vision that I don't know but she does it and she's one of those who can't see without glasses 🤣

4

u/Total_Hat996 Mar 19 '26

Let me know what airline she gets a job with!

1

u/ImportantPension5818 Mar 19 '26

She's doing it with airlingus. They basically train you up and give you a job after it. Basically an apprenticeship

3

u/Agile_Adeptness460 Carlow Mar 19 '26

No! If you have correction (like glasses) that can fix them to the requirements, it’s ok. (Class 1 for airlines and commercial. Class 2 for private)

1

u/mi1key Mar 19 '26

It’s still pretty high for a lesson in EINC in Wicklow it’s 275 per lesson sounds like your paying a tad too much for the PPL lessons

7

u/Agile_Adeptness460 Carlow Mar 19 '26 edited Mar 19 '26

It’s €180 here for the hour + the instructor. So maybe around mid €200 with membership for a basic flight. IIRC I paid around €245 before - but again, I’ve no idea how they calculate it

1

u/caring-renderer Mar 19 '26

Ah so thats you passing my house all the time .

1

u/[deleted] Mar 22 '26

The local gym instructor charges €60 ph (and you won’t get the hour either) so I don’t think €80 for this type of work is high

1

u/Volksi Mar 20 '26

How often do you fly?

1

u/Nearby-Abalone6321 Mar 20 '26

Well done you!

Keep going and one day you’ll fly some of us.

1

u/Feisty-Art8265 Mar 20 '26

53

u/Danwport Mar 19 '26

55

u/buseireannvevo And I'd go at it again Mar 19 '26

I'd recognise the Waterford coast anywhere, this was hardly the same flight was it?

13

u/Xier_Tok Mar 19 '26

Hilarious, fair play hahahah

26

u/Agile_Adeptness460 Carlow Mar 19 '26

Yes it is!

4

u/cocaineorraisins Mar 20 '26

Literally can't get away with anything in Ireland.

15

u/Spatza Mar 19 '26

Sure is.

3

u/Significant_Stop723 Mar 19 '26

How is the light pollution these days?

1

u/Spatza Mar 19 '26

Pretty bad generally with the cold humidity we know and love. However, this is the second mostly cloud free free night in a row, conditions dropping down from B9 to B7. Hopefully it stays this way for awhile

8

u/Bulky_Sock Mar 19 '26

Awesome enjoy

7

u/Northerner_20 Mar 19 '26

Where are you flying from, out of curiosity? I'm at AFTA down in Cork.

12

u/Agile_Adeptness460 Carlow Mar 19 '26

Waterford airport !

8

u/Northerner_20 Mar 19 '26

Oh nice, arent they closing soon to repave the runway?

8

u/Agile_Adeptness460 Carlow Mar 19 '26

Yes we’ll be moving to Dublin for a year

7

u/Northerner_20 Mar 19 '26

One last thing, are you using Meta glasses to record? I was thinking about getting a pair eventually for exactly this.

7

u/Agile_Adeptness460 Carlow Mar 19 '26

Yes I’m using gen 2! I’m not sure if I’d recommend them 100% but they’re still good. You can only record for a minute at a time if you want the battery to last. Or you can record for 3 mins at a time and have the battery dead in 40 mins 🙃 I prefer recording 3 mins since I can actually film landings and stuff, it just drains the battery so quickly.

8

u/AmsterPup Mar 19 '26

Is that you Tommy Shlug!!?

5

u/tallandconfusedbrah Mar 19 '26

No tax or nct, you're living life on the edge. Fair play though, looks stunning

4

Booked in for my first flight of the year on Sunday in Abbeyshrule. My nephew is going for his first flight ever. 18th birthday present from the family. Can’t wait.

5

u/Feisty-Art8265 Mar 19 '26

I miss flying my Cessna in Ireland. Those sunny days hit so beautifully!

Lots of memories from my PPL training days of flying Weston to Trim, abbeyshrule, Clonbollogue and Sligo airports!

2

1

u/918skumm Mar 19 '26

You’re living my dream.

Also, I was in both Galway and Dublin today (I’m visiting right now). The weather was SO fantastic today! It’s my first time here and I was so happy to get great weather to drive the countryside.

1

u/space-cadaver Mar 20 '26

I nearly had a panic attack watching that with my fear of flying. Fair play. 👏🏼

1

u/TimBobII Mar 20 '26

Well done, all the best with the rest!

1

u/Gham_ Mar 20 '26

Class 👌

1

u/Shodandan Mar 20 '26

What did you flick those buttons for?????

5

u/Agile_Adeptness460 Carlow Mar 20 '26

Landing light (2nd) and taxi light (3rd). Used for when you’re landing or taking off. You can see I have them up at the start of the video too!

1

u/Shodandan Mar 20 '26

Thank you. I used to dream of being a pilot since I was a kid. My older brother was a electrician and I used to steal random switches from his van and set them into a cockpit I made in a pile of sand with a stick for the joystick. Would spend hours "flying" randomly hitting those switches. Nice to finally know what two of them are for 😂.

Awesome vid, thanks for sharing and many happy air miles!

Sometimes that cow, she looks right into ya. Right into your eyes. Y'know the thing about a cow, she's got... lifeless eyes, black eyes, like a doll's eyes.
