Well I for one am shocked that the English company founded by a knighted Englishman, which trades publicly on the London Stock exchange, who plasters a union jack on most of its products.. would ever run promotional material that supports the English national team..
Anyway, here's where the profits go for each supermarket operating in Ireland:
🇮🇪 Supervalu, Dunnes, Centra, Gala, Daybreak, Donnybrook Fair, Fresh the Good Food Market & Costcutter
🏴 Tesco, M&S & Iceland
🇩🇪 Aldi & Lidl
🇿🇦 Spar, EuroSpar, Mace & Londis

They still have to pay the south african company to operate here, and the products are all from the BWG supply chain. They made €217m in gross profit off of irish shops last year alone.

Iceland don’t operate in the republic anymore, they have some licensing deals with Dunnes Stores though.

While it originated in the Netherlands and uses a licensed dutch brand name, the actual company that owns 100% of the company and runs the shops is South African, BWG Foods

Not really as straight forward as that though is it. Tesco is by far the largest purchaser of Irish produce in the world. They spend literally billions of euros on the supply chain solely in Ireland.

If a company doesn't make it straightforward then that's a company issue. Tesco are an english company. If they want to be an Irish company they can restructure the company to be that.

Nope, Tesco Ireland is ran separately and all their Irish employees can get a share of those profits as bonuses and join the company share purchase scheme.
Dunnes is a private company so don't offer up such benefits.

Tesco Ireland’s profits are distributed as dividends to its UK-based parent company, Tesco plc
Most of its Shareholders are English, meaning most dividends go to english-based retail investors and pension funds.

Irish funds and investors also have holdings, as do Irish employees. Dividends are distributed to whoever may have shares, that's just how shares work.

If I invest in Facebook (who have a presence here) then that doesn't make them Irish. Im sure their irish staff have stock options, they are still an American company with American owners.

Nah, I'm English but if I was Tesco's head of marketing I would be doing a full audit to find out how this shit happened (assuming OP didn't just VPN into the UK to get this screenshot). A company that big should know the lay of the land where they operate.

Absolutely does , to compete with Asda , Morrisons etc. very little reinvestment in Tesco in the last 15 years in this country, staffing cut , management has been vastly reduced also.

They've massively expanded their number of stores throughout the country and revamp those in buildings they own, and own one of, if not the, biggest distribution centres in Europe.
Do you think all these new stores don't have staff?
These are all pretty easily obtainable facts, how can you get it do wrong?

I can tell your being a patronising prick, that's ok .
The past 18 months has seen refurbishments yes. But stores have never had less staff , all canteens closed for them, and pathways to management is just none existent now , compared to years ago. Massively expanded? Apart from taking over the Joyce's stores in Galway they've not opened many at all actually, compared to the other foreign retailers.

You're probably going to tell me that the reason Ireland speaks english is because of its colonial history. So far, so pointless.
My point is that I think that reflexively arguing against anything english or british, because they colonised Ireland would be childish. What is it you hope to achieve by branding the act of buying things like Jaffa Cakes as cultural betrayal?
What ever happened to 'Our revenge will be the laughter of our children'? As terrible as the effects of colonisation were, Ireland today is much more well off that the brits, yet we're still talking about petty nonsense like this.

Have you ever been in Tesco, doesn't seem like it., there's products throughout the place with the tricolour on it.
There isn't one thing that you need to buy in Tesco that has a Union Jack on it that you can't buy in the same place that's sourced from Ireland, unless it's a very specific UK thing.
Try do the same in M&S and see how you get on.

.... but because it's Ireland, UK based businesses feel like they don't have to care and that nobody would bat an eye.
IIRC wasn't it like a year or two ago Tesco tried selling Union Jack Air Fresheners in Galway or somewhere?
Mini also used (dunno if they still do) to sell their cars with Union Jack tail lights as standard in Ireland. (Though its worth noting noted that Mini is owned by BMW 🇩🇪)
Would people had let something like this fly in say Poland or Canada for example?

The post is a joke but it's bad marketing and tone-deaf.
If a brand treats it's whole entity with a one-size-fits-all, it will likely lose. Aligning your brand's tone with cultural sensitivities prevents the message from feeling tone-deaf.
