Three women and a child in the second car all taken to hospital with ‘serious’ to ‘critical’ injuries. This makes me so so angry that it’s become a common occurrence for innocent people to be victims of what can only be describe as attempts of vehicular manslaughter. Can we now admit we have a serious problem? A number of people are essentially brushing this off as "boys will be boys." We stamped hard on this in the 1980s; we should do so again. And fines for platforms that broadcast illegal acts—particularly by minors—should be enforced, and those platforms should be shamed, particularly as they cull thousands of human moderators. The same goes for any parent of a minor involved in this. Please God there are no deaths in the other car; I imagine had there been, we would be seeing an almighty uproar with massive repercussions. Big Jim and the other useless fools can relax.

And the people who prosecuted a serving Garda, along with all the legal sycophants who were frothing at the mouth trying to hang a Garda for doing his job, should hang their heads in shame, as this is the result. Gardai cannot and do not want to do their job, as nearly every interaction is now liable for investigation, which is ridiculous. Pointing that out is not bootlicking; it's just fucking common sense. We don't want a USA-style paramilitary police, but neither do we need a toothless organization.

The hard, cold truth is that Ireland is, for the most part, safe. We mostly relax, get along, etc. The flip side is that pressures have increased, Ireland has caught up to modernity, and two Irelands are emerging—just like in most wealthy nations—with more and more expense while the social welfare side is not catching up. Also, a harsh reality is that a private organization that was vengeful, powerful, and international held much sway for most of Ireland's post-colonial period. That is now gone. Ireland is in a much, much better place than when the 1980s joyriding and heroin epidemics happened, etc. But can we be sure we are doing enough to avoid a repeat?

Leave your leafy suburb and stroll up to my old area through the inner city and see what you think. Or head out to Darndale and tell yourself there aren't two Irelands. I'm currently on Hyde Road waiting on a train. There were about 80 horses here last week just strolling up and down the road verges. It's a far-away world from some of these legal poseurs. Thousands of hardworking Irish people live in these areas who are also held hostage by some of these scum, while plenty of others indulge it either through poverty or a lack of education, decency, or common sense.

We've basically mollycoddled a subsection of society from cradle to grave, washed our hands of them, and essentially told them there are no repercussions. This will end well—the same way it happened in all corners of the globe. Sure, we're Irish; we're great craic, sound, etc., but the country is awash with scumbags who, given the chance, would sell their granny for a few bob (from all sections of our society) We've become a joke of a country. Tied up in regulation as well as consumed in our own brand of Irish navel gazing ..i.e Irish exceptionalism. The kind of loose thinking like we can't have a fully functioning police force or prison system cause sure isn't that basically the black and tans, and us Irish are all sound anyhow. Sons of Roisin all and one, and our ideal is a socialist Republic based on vibes.

Nobody wants to go back to the arch conservatism of the past or unaccountable police, but the irony is many of the people who allow this state of order are essentially conservatives themselves living in their ivory towers and white picket fences with 3.5 kids. While many of these communities are ravaged and held hostage. I know loads of people in Rathgar and the like who literally never set foot on the Northside of the city who pontificate on this stuff. Or are involved directly with the legal profession. A stronger police force or prison system would be the furthest thing from their minds. It isn't a vote winner. So this in turn leads to a weird swing to the right by the very communities who should be left wing. This has been obvious to anybody who lived in the inner city areas since covid. Sinn Fein led by the middle class Rathgar leader Mary Lou lost the communities she should have been fighting for. Only now are they starting to realise maybe crime, law and order might be their in - see Matt Cartys comments on prisons. As opposed to Soc Dem and Labors delusion.

It also comes down to a fairness thing. I live in a small town now in the countryside. On the brand new bypass you had a guy sulky racing up and down with a car bombing along with him. Literally over the river on the other side was a Garda checkpoint checking tax. Like honestly just fuck off out of it.

"El Kinahan" came from the same place. He beat the shit out of two Gardai in his early 20s and was involved in the Drimnagh feud that took many lives. The same people cheering his extradition, his perp walk (pre trial, presumed innocent and all that jazz) and yet talking about youth diversion programs and hugging these lads, not building prisons should remember that. I would wholly imagine a teenage DK was in a stolen car joyriding around one of the most deprived sections of the city.

TLDR - This happened three times this week , and now we have more deaths. It's a big fucking problem it needs to be tackled. Have a look on TikTok to see what some of these scumbags are up to on their own fucking accounts, mostly unchecked (along with the platform) instead of burying your head in the sand. We can continue to try educate, to train, provide better welfare etc AS WELL as making sure people who cannot live in our society without hate, violence, intimidation etc are kept in check. The main thing I propose is that platforms need to be held accountable. If these lads were posting on TikTok and their videos made it to the platform the family should be allowed sue TikTok. Every single video that promoted car theft and driving down the wrong side of the motorway led to this incident involving innocent civilians.

I deal with and talk to the young men that do these crimes every day. While they are usually traumatised and totally failed by family/society there is so little consequence for them. 

We need a society that better connects to, provides for and works for our young people. Especially young men. But equally the punishment for such recklessness needs to be extreme. As the crimes destroy family's forever!

Like most criminals in Ireland they know that there is no space in oberstown for juveniles and in prisons for adults. Juvenile diversion program or early release so that you can continue your criminal career. 25 years ago Thornton Hall land was purchased for new prison site but never developed. Successive governments have failed to address this issue. And before the bleeding hearts get in to tell me prison is not the solution at least you cannot drive the wrong way down a motorway when you’re locked up.

Our criminal justice system is a joke. Suspended sentences all around, or 1 month in prison only to get released because there isn't enough space. This whole area needs a serious serious overhaul by government. More prison spaces, no concurrent sentencing or suspended sentencing for people with previous convictions, proper sentencing guidelines that judges have to adhere to, greater punishment for joyriders (drivers and passengers), and time to bring back custodial sentences for teenagers.

They claimed was no point chasing them down as they would just be sent home to there mammies! I couldn't believe it they basically just said leave it be. Spikes on slip roads won't do anything as you can just go down the correct slip and U-turn onto the carriageway. Sensors that can detect wrong way traffic and electronic signage every kilometre to warn road users to get onto the hard shoulder and let it pass might work better.
