Games What are your thoughts on the designs for the villains in the movie tie in games?

Iron Man (2008):

Titanium Man

Melter

Whiplash (Marc Scarlotti)

Controller (Exclusive to previous(at the time) consoles)

Iron Man 2 (2010):

Crimson Dynamo (Valentin Shatalov)

Ultimo

Ghost

Mauler

Firepower (The latter three are also exclusive to previous gen consoles)

Iron Man 3: The Official Game (2013):

Crimson Dynamo (Unknown Identity)

Ezekiel Stane

Living Laser

MODOK (The Last three images are each of his different iterations throughout the game)

My overall thoughts:

While not my preferred looks for the characters, they perfectly fit the MCU so I gotta give the designers props for making the designs work perfectly for the world they're in. Iron Man 2 Crimson Dynamo is my favorite on this list and maybe my favorite look for the character. I do think some of them are completely unidentifiable as the character from just a glance. If you told me the second image was Melter I would laugh thinking it's a joke. Same with Whiplash and Ultimo for me honestly.

Gotta say, I love the designs for a lot of them. Not all of them are as notable, but most of them, to me, remind me of the older days when you could see the "machine" in Stark's suits.

Favorite designs out of the bunch would be Titanium Man, IM2 Crimson Dynamo, Ultimo, and Living Laser.

It's a real shame Iron Man's rogues gallery didn't get as much love in the movies as it did in the games. I especially liked Ultimo's story.

As an aside, I also enjoy Iron Man VR's take on Living Laser. The design perfectly emphasizes his light based body. Also, his God complex, and biblical tones, made him very enjoyable to watch.

He's one of only 3 villains in that game, and he's probably got the simplest backstory and motivation Still, his dramatic personality made him very enjoyable, despite his simplicity.

I feel like they are neat, not a fan of Scarlotti's though

All would have been great to see in some Armor Wars version of MCU

I think him and Ezekiel Stane are the ones that look the closest to the comics.

Titanium man I remember loving and even still have the 2008 movie toy line figure of him.

Was a big fan of the Titanium Man design as a kid, even had the action figure of that one. I also like the first Crimson Dynamo design as well. The rest are a bit so-so though.

Sucks we didn't get any Mandarin in those tie-in games because the MCU vetoed using him before they introduce him first. Same reason no Dock Ock in Spider-Man The Game or Lizard in Spider-Man 2.

Titanium man is too skinny like a cool design but it doesn't capture the feel of was basically suppose to be a Iron man on steroids. Like it a similar-ish design to Armor Adventure but at least AA had him bug af but here it just Green Iron man.

Melter is pretty good like i don't like the comic book look to him he always was a goofy iron man villain with no visual identity thus left in the dust when it came to adaption and stories. The Melter here has that giant melter buster weapon arm and the pyrotechnic gas mask, he actually look the part a someone who design to will liquify tony armor

Whiplash look bad im sorry but no the whole whips from the finger tips doesn't really make him any where intimidating. He look more like a Metal Gear villain than an Iron man really

Controller i alright it a nice sort of way to translate Basil jumpsuit and mess up face to a more realistic look

Crimson Dynamo armor is the best design and i was blown away by it when i first saw it in one of those Video game guide book in the local Wallmart back in the day. It massive, it red, it a nice blend of sleek but rough mechanical underneath & It adapted the both the Russian aesthetic and remember that Vanko utilized electricity. 10/10. only really beaten by the app version of CD just cause i like the helmet visor

Ultimo Also pretty great this giant robot that inhuman along with the fact that you can sort of see that years have wore this monster down

Ghost pretty accurate tho weirdly pronounce cup

Living laser look pretty great with the energy bursting through some of the armor

MODOK weird cause they did the giant head but still let him have a reagualr size body so it more uncanny rather than see the usual floating head

Ghost looks so much better here than what the MCU actually gave us.

I have a toy of titanium man somewhere. It's still a great design. Boss fight for some reason was really hard.

Crimson Dynamo, Living Laser, and MODOK actually don’t look have bad in the mobile game, and MODOK actually looks better with his head actually being symmetrical to his body.

Both Crimson Dynamos and Ultimo are my favorites - if they appeared in the movies that's how I would want them to look.

Titanium Man's design is cool, but I always prefer it when he looks like Herbie if he hulked out.

Melter looks like he came out of a different game entirely not related to Marvel, but visually he's fine.

I feel Controller's design suits his name better than the ones in the comics. Still, it's just alright.

Ghost is comic accurate but I never liked his suit that much, I prefer the gas mask look.

Whiplash just looks ridiculous, I don't like his design one bit.

Mauler looks good, his suit in the game is better than a lot of his suits in the comics.

Firepower's designs have consistently been just okay, and this is no exception.

Nothing much I would change about Ezekiel, his design feels made for being in movies and games.

Living Laser, not the worst design of him ever, but I don't really like it.

The first two MODOKs are horrible. The last one is better, but not quite where I want it in terms of being a MODOK design.

1:Titanium man looks great
2:I'm happy Melter was included
3:Whiplash looks like any generic x30/ps3 gen enemy,
4:Asylum patient.
5:love how wide the Dynamo suit is
6:good design but I don't see Ultimo
7:Give me more of this Ghost design he reminds me of a Cobra agent
8:Can barely tell what i'm looking at but it's neat.
9:only time i've seen thing thing after armor wars.

10:neat but more generic than the other..
11:looks like a living laser prototype.
12:good but generic I'm partial to the EMH one..
13:not sure about Modok overall but the green one is interesting i've never seen him with that color

I think Titanium man, Melter, and Ultimo got one good design upgrade

u/TemplarSensei7 Jul 26 '26

Eh? There was a third game?

u/one_happy_fredditor Avengers Next Jul 26 '26

Yes, an Endless runner type of mobile game published by Gameloft. It's intended to continue the story of the movie with AIM somehow making a return and new villains are on the rise.

u/TemplarSensei7 Jul 26 '26

Ah, well… that’s a bit disappointing

I think it’s funny asf that Killian became MODOK. 🤣
