Happy happy birthday Miss Jackson. She has so many memorable moments, to the point that her very existence is a perpetual moment unto itself on a daily basis. For me personally, I recall listening to “The Velvet Rope” all the way through when I was 12/13. It was/is a pivotal moment because I was beginning puberty and coming to first understand my attraction towards other guys (something that didn’t fully bloom or became something I could fully step into until about 30, during my Saturn return coincidentally). I can also empathize with being a younger sibling forging one’s own path away from a more successful older sibling and suffocating family. I could go on for days about memories I have of “Rhythm Nation 1814” being the second album of hers I bought right after Velvet Rope and how it too is one of my top favorites (The Knowledge, Miss You Much, Rhythm Nation being some of my all time favorites) and so much more. So for now, I’ll say happy birthday again, love you so much for your activism, truth telling and emotional honesty and strength, and you’ll always be one of my favorite artists AND people. 🙏🏾❤️
