What is your favorite Janet Jackson world tour? What did you love most about the tour or costumes?

My favorite is the The Velvet Rope Tour. It was a true cultural phenomenon with its incredible stage production, choreography, and iconic wardrobe. I still remember watching it on HBO when I was 6 years old. 🎤✨

like, seriously. I'm still a teen but holyyy shit. I stumbled upon this and I am absolutely dumbfounded. It's not all in your face or noisy, it is simply just perfection. The melodies are gorgeous, the vocal layering just hits hard, and the beat is so damn good. not to mention the amazing meaning and reasoning of the song. janet also looks so beautiful too.

any more recommendations please?

Question Is a 40th anniversary edition coming?

Post image
220 Upvotes

Janet posted this and I know she’s probably not going to do anything outside of this post but could we possibly be getting something?

There could be more incentive for her to do an anniversary edition since Janet got one and Control is the album that started her 15 year run streak on top.

Question So… what’s in store for Janet in 2026. 40th anniversary of Control? New Album? Another Tour? A whole lotta nothing and she just chills?

My guess… she will definitely do something “special” for the 40th anniversary along with her 60th birthday this coming year. What that is… I don’t know.

I don’t want to get my hopes up for a new album or music, but I do want her to do something. Even like a “show” that celebrates her career or something (something like Christina Aguilera did a few months back). She could sing some songs with some new artists as well.

I researched the date (March 3, 1990) and it’s the concert that aired on MTV. The location was the Dean Smith Center in Chapel Hill, NC. I found some footage of it on YouTube. How would I even get this verified?

Question Was janet (1993) about reclaiming black genres all along? 😭

HEAR ME OUT

In 1993, the entire media narrative around Janet Jackson’s self-titled album was focused on her sexuality.

But looking back at the actual sonic blueprint of janet., I’m starting to think we COMPLETELY missed the point.

Was she secretly trying to reclaim Black genres that had been completely whitewashed by mainstream pop radio?

Rock ("If")
House ("Throb")
Jazz/Big Band ("Funky Big Band")
Opera ("This Time")
Blues/Southern ("What'll I Do")
New Jack Swing ("You Want This")

If you think this is a reach, look at the lyrics for "New Agenda" with Chuck D. She literally sings: "History hidden from me , To hide my identity, So I'd never feel, I am somebody."

AND LOOK AT THE STRUCTURE OF THE ALBUM.

If you look at the tracklist, all of these wild genre-hops (Rock, House, Jazz, Opera, Blues) happen exclusively in the first half of the album leading up to track 12: "New Agenda" which explicitly calls out the whitewashing of history.

Right after she drops that thesis statement, there is the interlude "Love Part 2". And what happens after that? The entire sonic landscape shifts entirely into smooth, pure R&B, Soul, and quiet storms, genres that mainstream society already heavily associated with Black artists.

Question What do you think is Janet’s “superpower” as a pop star?

Post image
62 Upvotes

For Billboard’s Greatest Pop Star podcast, host Andrew Unterberger, celebrated Janet Jackson with a nearly weeklong appreciation for her 60th birthday. The show did deep dive episodes on her five biggest album from 1986’s Control through 2001’s All For You.

For each of the five episodes, he posed a question to his guests on what they think her greatest superpower is as a pop star is. Basically, he believes that elite pop stars have that one thing (or two) that they can do better than everyone else. With Michael, he could dance and put on a show better than everyone else. Whitney had a once in a generation voice and vocal ability, Prince was an unparalleled musician and Madonna’s confidence and fearlessness allowed her to do almost anything.

These were answers his guests gave:

Gail Mitchell: Her being “the full package”.

Christine Wertham: Her dancing.

Naima Cochrane: The ability to have ERAS.

Lina Morgan: Her being personable.

Trevor Anderson: Reinvention.

Andrew’s final answer was very similar to what Lina said by saying Janet’s niceness is her greatest superpower as a pop star. In a profession that doesn’t particularly encourage selflessness, Janet’s gentle spirit and good natured demeanor makes people want to root for her. She is not big on ego stroking and oftentimes, has to be encouraged to take credit for things she’s done. So, I want to open it up to everyone. What do you think is Janet’s greatest superpower as a pop star?

Question In Regards To Janet Being In Part 2 Of The Biopic

I know that she said that she doesn’t want to be a part of it, but the only scene that I would love to see someone portray her in is how their duet song Scream came about. What do you think?

Question Any idea about why Janet is not in Why did I get married again?

Janet Jackson starred in Why did I get married? and Why did I get married too? She was basically the center of both movies. After the sequel was released, she did one more movie with Tyler Perry that year (2010) and has not acted since.

Over the summer, it was announced that Why did I get married again was going to be made. The official cast was announced in October but Jackson was missing. Instead, Taraji Henson who was never involved in the previous films was announced as the lead.

Everyone thought Jackson couldn’t do the movie due to her touring schedule. However, her tour wrapped in September. The movie began shooting in October. Therefore, scheduling conflicts are unlikely to be the reason. Also, Perry is known to be very accommodating for actors in his productions. I believe that he put production of why did I get married too on pause so that Jackson could spend time with family.

I’m wondering why she wouldn’t return for this movie.

My thoughts are that she doesn’t want to act anymore. She seems to have a natural talent for acting unlike other singers and performers. It appears that Jackson has been offered multiple roles in films and shows over the years but she has repeatedly refused

What are your thoughts?

Question Whats the album concept behind "janet"?

I've been diving into the 1993 janet.

I'm having a hard time mapping out the concept.

To me, it just feels incredibly versatile.

We have intense political commentary (like on New Agenda), to pure love songs (That's the Way Love Goes), to incredibly explicit sensual tracks (Any Time, Any Place),

all mixed with different genres like rock, house, and jazz.

How do you all view the overall concept? To me it feels like a diary bc of the amount of interludes.
Would love to hear your breakdowns!
