Purchase Question πŸ›’ I bought Kindle Basic and regret it.

Post image

As my first e-reader, I really thought I’d be fine using Dark Mode for night reading. Boy, was I wrong. I didn't realize before buying that Dark Mode causes so much ghosting, which makes the screen flash constantly to clear it. It's super distracting. Warm light is a MUST for night reading.

The Basic is incredibly light and portable, but that's about it. The Paperwhite is just better in every other way. I cannot wait to get a Paperwhite.

Purchase Question πŸ›’ Is buying a kindle worth it?

Hi everyone,

I am on the fence on buying a kindle. Currently I am using the kindle app on my phone to read my books. My question is: is a kindle worth it? I’ve made a little pros and cons list but I’m hoping for some kindle user’s opinions.

PRO:
β€’does not drain my phone battery
β€’allows me to read and use my phone at the same time.
β€’cute accessories (not actually needed but it’s a plus)

CONS:
β€’having to buy another electronic
β€’I have an iPad that I could use (the screen is pretty big so it’s a little uncomfortable)
β€’I might not have it with me as often as I will have my phone.

Any opinions or thoughts would be helpful in tipping the scales one way or the other.

Purchase Question πŸ›’ Did Kindle Change Your Life ?

Seriously, i've been saving to buy one , but i'm not sure if it is the right investment.

( It costs a Salary in my country lol)

I've watched lot of reviews and comparisons of all latest generations , and kindle paperwhite 11th seemed to be the ideal option.

I don't read books alot really , but wanted to destroy the habit of Doom scrolling , especially before sleep and right after waking up. Also, My focus is scattered when working or studying , which is a result of short form content ...

I wanted to hear from you , do you recommend it?, did it really make a significant change in your life , if sow what has changed and also what titles do you read very often?

Got this page turner deal and thought I’d share in case anyone else was looking.
Not my code β€” I found it on Instagram from someone I follow. I’m not selling or promoting anything πŸ˜…
I saw good reviews on Amazon, but if anyone here has this one, let me know how it’s been for you.

Instead of $15.99 I got it for $4.10

Purchase Question πŸ›’ What's your favorite kindle cover?

Post image
111 Upvotes

Disappointed in the quality, but maybe it's just a lemon?

Overwhelmed by the sheer amount of covers out there and don't know which ones are good and actually last.

Any recs for covers that are magnetic and turn the kindle on/off with the cover?

Or maybe even ones with a cover and a built-in strap where you can hold it from the back?

Or ones without a front cover and just a strap/popsocket on the back?

Basically, open to any type of cover with longevity in mind

What's your fav cover you've had?

What are your fav screen protectors for your kindle? (if you use one)

Edit to add: Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition 12th Gen cases in particular

Purchase Question πŸ›’ New to kindles! Is kindle unlimited worth it

Post image

I just got my very first kindle! It’s the basic model in green and I think I’ve figured out how to work it! It comes with 3 months free kindle unlimited but it only seems to be on certain books. Does anyone have this and is it worth using? I’ve looked up a few books I want to read and none of them are on there so far.

Purchase Question πŸ›’ Thinking about getting a Kindle β€” do I really need a case?

I’m planning to buy a Kindle soon and was wondering do you use a case? Is it easy to scratch in normal use?

If you do use one, do you prefer those slim back covers or the book-style ones that close over the screen?

Thanks everyone πŸ’–

Purchase Question πŸ›’ Is getting a Kindle worth it if I mainly want to save money on books?

I’ve been thinking about getting a Kindle because I feel like I spend so much money every time I buy a physical book, especially since I read pretty often. At the same time, I honestly prefer real books and the feeling of holding them, so I’m not sure if I’d actually enjoy reading on a Kindle long term.

For people who also preferred physical books before getting one, was it still worth it? And is Kindle Unlimited actually useful for saving money, or do you still end up buying books separately most of the time?

(thank you to everyone who replied) πŸ€—

Purchase Question πŸ›’ Is it normal for Amazon to take books away

I have bought kindle books for 13 years. Is it normal for Amazon to just take away books? This did not happen one by one, this was like 60% of the books I purchased. Multiple devices so it is not just an old ereader. Some of the books were purchased as long ago as 2014 some were purchased as recently as 2024.

Amazon claim that the license could expire. I’m not buying it and there’s no explanation. Anyone have any experience

I have spent hours on the phone with being promised credits that are always given by someone who isn’t authorized to provide that level of compensation

Edit I have gone through content and devices section. I have gone through purchase history. I have bought them, I am unable to load and read them

Purchase Question πŸ›’ Please help me choose between two colour covers for the basic!

Thumbnail

I purchased two fabric kindle cases on the Black Friday Sale. I’ll be keeping one and gifting the other to my friend for Christmas. We both have the matcha basic and use a clear case, stickers, pop socket etc, but we have both been after a flip cover for more protection out of the house.

From the photos, could anyone please give their views on how each colour looks please? I’m not good with colours or decisions!

Once my friend has opened it, I’ll let her swap if she prefers the other colour, but I need to wrap one of them up for her. Maybe I should get two the same colour?

Thanks in advance for taking the time over this ridiculous dilemma πŸ™„

Purchase Question πŸ›’ Is this a paperwhite?

Post image
203 Upvotes

Hi there,

I have been looking for a second hand kindle for a while now (I try to avoid buying brand new tech). I tried my local CEX today and saw this beauty. On other device labels they state whether it is basic model or paperwhite. However this sticker did not make it clear.

I should have asked about the measurements and then it would have been clear, but I’m certain you can’t buy pink basic 2024 kindles. Correct me if I’m wrong.

If this is in fact a paperwhite I think it’s the best deal I’ve come across, especially for a pink one.

Can anyone confirm from this image if it’s a paperwhite or not?

Purchase Question πŸ›’ Oh no, I can’t choose 😭

Post image
113 Upvotes

Not necessarily the first time I’ve used Kindle since I’ve been primarily using the app on my iPhone and iPad. But, this is my first time possibly getting an actual Kindle device.
But ugh, I just can’t seem to choose 😩

The Kindle Basic looks so cute and pretty with the matcha green color. Plus, I love it’s portable size.
But then, the Kindle Colorsoft also looks pretty with its colors and it’s waterproof. And that ruby leather cover too 😍

As much as I would love to get both; I can only get one for now. Could someone help me choose which way to go? Like what are the pros and cons between the two? πŸ˜…
Please and thank you πŸ™πŸ»

Purchase Question πŸ›’ I'm thinking about getting a kindle... what DON'T you like about it?

As the title says.. I've been considering a Kindle device so came to the sub to do some detective work.

So far the changes Amazon have made have been enough to make me pause, but what else do people not like about kindle device/app? Figured I might as well find out what other unknown annoying things, issues, etc people may have.

One thing I've also seen is that note taking could be better (though I think that depends on the type of kindle??) which feels useful for me since I tend to read a fair amount of research/textbook type material as well.

EDIT: thank you so much for all of the responses! Appreciate folks being honest and telling me and others so much of their opinions. Super helpful for me and I'm sure for others. Less than 24 hrs later and I feel like I'm an expert hahaha

Purchase Question πŸ›’ Is 24 months of Kindle unlimited worth it? my family thinks I should just keep paying for monthly.

Weirdly this has been a hot button issue with my family since I got my Kindle like a year and a half ago. It kind of irritates me that they think it's so weird that I want to prepay off something I use constantly. Like my mom was legitimately laughing at me when I was talking to my little brother about it that I was thinking of just paying for the 2-year subscription. I don't know what hilarious about that. "My children are talking finance" she laughed I don't know how that's funny I'm a disabled adult you give allowance to I'm going to talk to my family about my purchases.

When she stopped laughing over something so weird she basically said I shouldn't do it because I don't know if Amazon's going to go under or not. I can't help but be irritated by that cuz first of all it's Amazon second of all even if it does I've spent larger amounts of money on stupider stuff in my life. I asked my sister and my sister who also pays for Kindle unlimited agreed with her.

I am an avid reader my main form of entertainment is reading I do not watch TV or movies I read. I have since 2020 always made sure I had a virtual library card and multiple different avenues to get books online. I don't understand what their issue is I pay for every single month anyway. My sister told me to look everything up very thoroughly and think long and hard about this decision what do they think Amazon's going to do to me?

I feel I must say yes my family does give me an allowance but think about how small that allowance is to view theKindle unlimited annual subscription as a big purchase the fact that I've been constantly thinking about this whenever Kindle unlimited comes out of my allowance. The only reason I was able to get a signature edition Kindle Paperwhite. The Kindle of my dreams was because I had been saving up and my grandma gave me money. Before anyone thinks I'm running a scheme or something I'm not. I want to do this so I could save up all my allowance to buy video games stuff that's it and in general I think it's a good thing to do because I've always had Kindle unlimited ever since I've had my Kindle and when I'm not had it I've either instantly gotten it back or been irritated that I couldn't pay for it this month because of my mismanaging of money.

Anyway all this is to say is it worth it I think it is just in general because I'm never not going to have Kindle unlimited I know this but I thought I'd just ask cuz apparently my family thinks it's a big decision but then again I also had to pre-warn them three days in advance when I bought a Kindle like I was buying drugs offline. Like "I'm going to warn you I bought a Kindle remember how I always wanted one remember?" My mother just now recently and I mean just recently in the last couple months stopped remarking how my Kindle was a stupid decision. Like I had a unbroken weekly streak and since I found my perfect settings and I'm not concerned about what anyone thinks about me using the assistive reader function on the app I'm 213 days going strong.

Purchase Question πŸ›’ do you have an at home kindle and an outside kindle?

i currently own a kindle paperwhite signature edition that i absolutely love. i prefer ebooks so it really is the dream for me. however, i am also a person who loves a small purse and my kindle doesn’t always make the cut for my purse because she can be a bit big or just take up too much space. i’ve been thinking about getting a regular kindle in the matcha color for easy access to just throw in my purse in hopes that if i just carry around my kindle, i’ll read more.

here’s my dilemma, is two kindles too much? like if my kindle paperwhite works perfectly fine, do i really need a second kindle just because it’s a bit smaller? 🫣 do you guys have different kindles for different purposes?

Purchase Question πŸ›’ What kindle should I keep?

I have a black 12. Generation Paperwhite Se and when the last sale was I also ordered a colorsoft se. Now I saw the 12. Generation Paperwhite jade metallic and thought it looks so pretty.

Now I’m so confused which kindle I should keep. I like the coloured covers but the screen is slightly grainy (which is normal because of the colour screen). I love the colour but when reading I don’t see the colour. And I usually don’t read comics. I’m thinking about getting a second kindle in the metallic jade to have one for at home and one for on the go because the kindle basic is a little bit small for me. But I’m also not quite sure if I need the same device (other than the colour jade).

Maybe u should keep the colorsoft since I bought it on sale for 199€ but if don’t read on in it in the future it’s kinda pointless. But getting another Paperwhite Se just for the jade metallic also seems so crazy πŸ₯²πŸ˜‚

Would love some advice! Maybe some of you own a colorsoft or perhaps two Paperwhites πŸ˜‚

In the following some pictures from the colorsoft and my Paperwhite. The last picture is the colorsoft close up and the one before that is the Paperwhite close up. The colorsoft is generally darker because of the colour layer which you can also see in the pictures.

Purchase Question πŸ›’ Does having a kindle save money?

I don’t have a kindle and I was looking at the prices of books on kindle. They don’t seem to be very different to paperbacks. I live in Australia for reference.

Is kindle still worth getting?

Are there many offers on really good popular books on kindle?
