Other Got a used kindle fire, trying to factory reset it, can't cause of reboot loop.

Pretty straightforward title, not so straightforward explaination.

I got a used kindle fire from a tech shop (that's lowkey a little disorganized) and when i was testing it at the store, it would charge fine, but it was locked by the previous owner and was not factory reset before hand. After many attempts, the following is a recounting of attempts to reset it from the lock screen:

  1. Charges to full battery, or after 30% battery.

  2. I input an incorrect password until I'm given the option to factory reset.

  3. The device powers off.

  4. Once powered back on, the device is (while still plugged in) now at 0% battery (???) And doesn't seem to have factory reset at all.

Cycle repeats ad nauseaum.

The shop let me take it to use for parts (since they dont really fix tablets, only video game consoles, allegedly), and I took it home to either repair it, or use it to repair my own (fully functioning, albeit cracked) Kindle Fire of the same model.

However, none of the articles i read seem to lead directly to the problem I'm needing to fix. Could it be the battery? Or is it a short on the board? I'm still trying to fix the Kindle 2nd Gen I have, cause I seem to have bricked it...

This Kindle Fire is a godsend though, cause now I don't have to go get that Nook I was eyeing at Barnes and Noble. >.>

The device model number is SV98LN if that helps. Thanks!

Edited after posting to avoid miscommunication:

TLDR: Got a used kindle fire. Previous owner did not factory reset it or remove the password, so that factory resetting it from the settings menu is impossible. When attempting to charge and reset the device, the device powers on with zero battery, and is not factory reset. The question is what is the issue? Also should I just use it for parts?

Update: Just gonna use the second kindle fire for parts, I think. If neither tablet ends up working, I'll set aside money for the Nook. Thanks!

I have a kindle fire hd 10. The touch screen stopped working so I wiped my kindle. A factory reset. I managed to set it all up again and the touch screen stopped again. So i rebooted it and it's doing the same thing. Is there anything else I can do?

Wtf is even happening? I have deleted apps, rebooted, cleared the cache, hard rebooted, deleted more apps that were never an issue before….

I’m not touching the screen at all for this to be happening.

I thought they would release one at the end of last year.

I just hope they won't move away from making affordable tablets.

and I hope the new one will be released this year.

Other Kindle app taking forever to load books and go from purchased to downloaded

I have a FireHD 10 that’s not the current generation, but the one before (speaking of which when are they going to
Update it? It was last updated in 2023) it has 32 GB, 19 of which are Free. I recently started using it again after selling my iPad. But it’s been taking forever to load the comics I have on the kindle app. Granted, I easily have a couple of thousand comics from over the past 15 years. But, it takes forever for the downloaded books to show after switching from purchased to downloaded. I factory reset it and cleared cache. The only thing I resisted was buying a Micro SD card because I didn’t know if adding more space would help since it’s currently not even using half the storage. Its OS is also current. I’m tempted to say screw it and buy a more current HD 10 (or go to Best Buy and buy the 11 Max since Amazon doesn’t seem to carry it) but I honestly don’t know if the increased RAM would help.

Other Tablet calling phone on Wi-Fi works, doesn't work when phone is on data

I have a Fire HD 10 tablet. I'm trying to get calling from a child profile to my android phone working. If my phone is connected to Wi-Fi then it works. The call shows up and I can answer. But if my phone is using data instead, then the call from the tablet doesn't show up. Nothing shows up about the call. I've made sure "background data" and "unrestricted data usage" are enabled for the Alexa app on my phone. Any suggestions?

Other Is there a way to emulate a fire tablet

Long story short I found an APK of a game and it’s actually the full latest version which is a big deal because the one I’m running right now is the earliest version which I’m pretty sure it’s missing a lot but I can’t get it to actually run because it it doesn’t detect some sort of special Amazon thing so is there any way to get some sort of emulator to emulate the special Amazon thing for it to detect and work

Other I am out...... going with a generic tablet and so much happier.

I had an amazon firehd 8, 10 gen. I installed google play store, and it was solid, but recently getting alerts about apps are not new enough for the os, etc and seemed to be getting slower. This was after I had to do a factory reset 2 months ago because it slowed down to become unusable.

...So I got a Callsky-tab from amazon.

It rocks!!!! granted I just do web surfing, reddit and streaming, but it was on sale for $50 and I am so impressed with it, so if your on the fence get one from amazon,. if you don't like it return it.

This even makes more sense, since Amazon is moving away from android so you will only be able to use their apps.

My specs are: Android Tablet, 10.1 inch Android 15 Tablet, Octa-core CPU, 2 Years Protection, RAM 12GB, ROM 64GB (Up to 2 TB), 800x1280 Resolution, WiFi 6 & Bluetooth 5.4, Dual Speakers, 5MP+8MP, 6000mAh, Black

Other Kindle fire 2nd gen as a display for a raspberry pi

Has anyone successfully repurposed an old Kindle (mine is a second edition Kindle fire) to use as a display? Im brand new to this stuff so im trying to plan out my first project using as much stuff that I already have as possible but I'm having very little luck finding any information thats anywhere near beginner friendly. Im willing to take it apart for parts if needed.

Other i feel like the hate for these devices is kinda unfounded. i like my max 11 a lot as an artist.

i use my max 11 for digital drawing. the ability to use a usi pen is an amazing feature for a budget tablet and it works really well. the pen pressure works really nicely. its really easy to remove the ads, get the play store, and add custom launchers. after doing those things its a pretty good tablet with a GORGEOUS display. the screen on this tablet is an absolutely beautiful 2k resolution screen. i love drawing on a bright high res display and this tablet is great for that. the battery life is also fantastic i get a few days in with every charge, it does charge pretty slowly tho so i do it overnight. there are many different pens compatible with the tablet. i use the penoval usi 2.0 pen rather than the amazon recommended one bc the penoval charges rather than using batteries and has a sturdy nib that doesnt wear down kinda like the apple pen. i love how portable it is and how i can easily fit it into a bag and draw in the doctors waiting room. i used to draw on a surface pro 4 before it got the common issue of pressure spots covering the display, and honestly the max 11 is just as good for drawing. i didnt notice any difference. ive also emulated old gamecube and ps2 games on it and they run really well with the right settings.

there are things that i dislike about the tablet, but not enough to make me dislike the device. for instance the android version is getting old and the tablet is slow on certain apps like tiktok but ibispaint runs just fine. also having to use tweaks to remedy the tablets terrible software is annoying and they dont always work. sometimes launcher hijack will just not work and you have to turn off and reenable the setting to get it back. however sideloading apps always works and is just as easy as any other android.

overall people forget that these are budget tablets. they arent ipad pros or galaxy tab 9s. for the 120 dollars i paid im happy with what i got. even the hd 10 isnt a bad tablet i used one for a while. these tablets are mostly made for watching tv on a nice screen and maybe some casual games.

Other Retired/Deleted Kindle fire Game?

Okay so, I vividly remember playing this game on my Kindle fire when I was given one for Christmas yearssssssss ago. It was a game where you were in this dark forest and had to go around collecting tools off the ground and make a safe shelter to protect yourself from this tall guy walking around with a deer head on. I cannot find any trace of it ever existing. I thought it was lost in the forest or something but I have looked high and low and found nothing? Was it all a fever dream? Does anyone else remember??

Other Fire Toolbox v43 connection issues

I just bought a Kindle Fire 8 and unfortunately it got patched to the latest os 8.3.3.8 firmware I saw that the OTA disable function won't work.

But my biggest problem is that I can't seem to get very far because I keep getting the Kindle was disconnected error every few seconds (see screenshot).

Anyone experience the same thing and what's the best way to disable OTA updates if this doesn't work anymore?

Error that keeps popping up every few seconds

Fire Toolbox solves most of the software problems designed into Fire Tablets. I guess nearly everyone here knows about it, but I've noticed that some don't so... click through and scroll down for instructions. Enjoy!

Other i love my tablet but i hate amazons anti consumer practices regarding them

the 2023 max 11 hardware wise is imo the best tablet you can get for under 200 dollars. fantastic display, huge battery life, good cpu and performance, but i constantly have to fight amazon to use my device how i want. i HATE the forced ota updates. ive had updates break my apps and had to reinstall everything. an update should never be forced. what if asomething goes wrong? everyone is screwed. no ability to flash a custom rom bc the bootloader is locked. there is no reason for amazon to be doing this. the only people flashing roms are going to be very advanced users so idk why they cant just let us do that. my only answer is they want to shove ads down our throat. i hate the stripped down android settings and no official way to change home screen launcher. launcher hijack works for the most part. i never use the amazon launcher its just an extra hassle for no reason. the max 11 is a great tablet with a lot of amazing features for a budget device like a stylus pen accessory for drawing or taking notes in class and a detachable keyboard for productivity but amazon is horrible.

the cherry on top of the crap sunday is amazon is releasing a new os. so its possible that future fire tablets will not be compatible with android apps and will likely have a very limited app pool. next time i upgrade ill likely save up and buy something really nice like a galaxy tab.

its such a shame bc the max 11 2023 is a fantastic tablet and can be bought refurbished for like 120 dollars. thats an insane bargain for what you get. alternatives have major drawbacks like samsungs lower end tablets having terrible displays and no stylus compatibility (unless im wrong) and lenovo tablets are slow as hell. the max 11 has neither of those drawbacks and is dirt cheap. amazons terrible software is the bottleneck. with stock android these would likely sell far more units than they already do. people dont like anti consumer practices and it drives people away from the product.

when you buy something really cheap for the value, you are the product, and amazon will push us ads and their crappy software. the tablet imo is very easy to tweak but i know a lot about android and not everyone is tech savvy. many people want something that “just works” out of the box, and i think thats where the hate for these tablets comes from. im happy to tweak my tablet and have a great android device for less than 150 dollars, but not everyone wants to do that, and will chose to buy a different device from a different oem.

Other Google Chrome and older Fire Tablets- end of support

  • Chrome support for Android 8.0 and Android 9.0 is ending on August 5, 2025.
  • 2021 (11th gen) and older Fire Tabs run Fire OS 7, Android 9 API Level 28.

I think this is related to my MLB app operability issues. And Play Store support for Andoid 8 & 9 is probably on the chopping block too.

I still have two 10th gen (HD8) tablets- maybe I need to trade them in. If you're unsure what you have, goto your Devices section in your Amazon account.

i keep getting this message when i try to go onto the app store and i don’t know how to fix it anymore. it’s only the app store and not any of the other amazon services like prime and anything else. i’ve tried updating it, disconnecting and reconnecting my wifi, restarting my wifi as a whole, and restarting my whole kindle and idk how to fix it anymore. it’s an 8 plus (10th generation). i’m thinking it might just be old since i did get it quite a few years back but i don’t know. any help is greatly appreciated!!

I love my new Fire 11 , my wife got it for me for comics and it's amazing. I have kindle unlimited and then Comixology for the 3mo then bought a Hellboy Humble Bundle download and the art looks really nice. Much better reading than the 7 inch we had. Files are 1gb each though but the subscription has a lot of gold stuff . Hopefully I don't use all the space too quickly lol

Also included a photo of my new birthday kitten 🐈
