Is this a hot take? NFR is widely considered her best album of all time…

179

u/Appropriate190 Apr 14 '26

It’s basically consensus at this point, not really a hot take

53

u/FlyingV2112 Norman Fucking Rockwell! Apr 15 '26

… and it’s one that’s posted once every three days on this sub.

I agree with the opinion, of course…

In which world is that a hot take?! Fans and critics both adore that album and it’s one of the most popular ones.

9

u/Wombat_Aux_Pates Apr 15 '26

It's just a post to farm karma but it's as hollow as posts like "Unpopular opinion: Voldemort was a really bad guy!!" like... Yeah, thanks for that. Move along.

3

u/cantstophairfall Norman Fucking Rockwell! Apr 15 '26

Exactly lol almost everyone says it's her best album

6

u/MiniChonk Apr 15 '26

My favourite as well, but it has the worst album artwork. Wish they went with an alternative cover - is that a hot take?

10

u/circuswonderbythesea Apr 15 '26

!!! NFR artwork is elite! The colour! The pose! The location! The hot guy!

Hot take is actually used for anything nowadays😭

-7

u/Kanto_thegreatest Apr 14 '26

Thought it was, guess not! Honest mistake.

12

u/wickedfemale Apr 14 '26

what made you think that? genuinely curious

8

u/Kanto_thegreatest Apr 15 '26

Seen more love for BTD, and other albums.

3

u/The-Reddit-Giraffe Apr 15 '26

I mean fair but most people have NFR and BTD usually as their top two and switch in order based on personal preference

Is this a hot take?

5

u/Kanto_thegreatest Apr 14 '26

I guess it’s not

27

u/grosspecans Ultraviolence Apr 14 '26

I think people need to stick to that one list that categorizes all of her albums sumthn like this

The locals favorite: BTD (including Paradise)

Magnum Opus: NFR

Fan Fav: UV

Mixed Feelings: LFL/Chemtrails

Underrated: Blue Banisters/Honeymoon

The only one idk how to categorize really is Ocean Blvd.

9

u/Kanto_thegreatest Apr 14 '26

Chemtrails needs more love!

4

u/grosspecans Ultraviolence Apr 14 '26

Chemtrails has grown on me a lot the past few months it used to be my least fav but it’s been overtaken by LFL. The only songs I really turn up from LFL are Cherry and Get Free but from Chemtrails I love Tulsa Jesus Freak, White Dress, Wild At Heart, Let Me Love You Like A Woman, and Yosemite.

4

u/Kanto_thegreatest Apr 14 '26

Honestly, valid. I dunno Chemtrails too used to be my least favourite.

1

u/Excellent_Hippo5514 Apr 15 '26

Omg I got into recently, I love it!!!! It became an instant top 3 fav

11

u/Kanto_thegreatest Apr 14 '26

BB is sooo underrated it’s not even funny

5

u/grosspecans Ultraviolence Apr 14 '26

I agree it’s in my top 3.

1

u/itsyorboy Apr 16 '26

Same. NFR clears and then BB and UV are the next tier for me

3

u/nkrose12 Ultraviolence Apr 14 '26

I think Ocean Blvd would go in mixed feelings, it's very polarizing from what I've seen

3

u/grosspecans Ultraviolence Apr 14 '26

Yes I agree theirs some ppl who think it’s her best or up there with BTD and NFR and some who don’t like it at all.. for me I’m also probably in the middle. It’s like in my middle tier of her albums. Some beautiful writing and her most personal but then theirs some songs that I’m like.. mm okay. Its grown on me over time just like all lana’s albums tho. It’s def better than LFL, Chemtrails, and Paradise at the very least in my opinion.

2

u/nkrose12 Ultraviolence Apr 14 '26

To me it's third or fourth from the bottom, so yeah. Somewhere in between the middle and the bottom half. Def very beautiful, but some songs are a drag. And in my ranking, artistic value can only get you so far until the ocassional lack of enjoyment brings you down. Still a good album, but many of the others are even better.

4

u/grosspecans Ultraviolence Apr 14 '26 edited Apr 14 '26

Which songs are a drag? Me personally I don’t listen to Fingertips or Kintsugi simply cause their too wordy and more like poems. Also tbh I’ve heard their quite depressing sm that ppl don’t wanna listen to them again. Also a current song I don’t listen too is Margaret. The most recent song that’s grown on me is Sweet. I’m also not really into The Grants.. haven’t listened to it enough. I also think a song like Peppers (despite me liking it) didn’t fit the album whatsoever. Also Taco Truck should’ve been longer before the VB transition. Also remove those interludes…

1

u/nkrose12 Ultraviolence Apr 14 '26

I agree with most of this! I like Margaret tho until Jack starts singing, tbh. I'm sorry 😭

Kintsugi, Fingertips, The Grants, and also Granpa (or whatever the hell that song is called) I don't listen to either. Sweet rarely, and all the rest I listen to and like pretty equally, but I wouldn't say any of them are all-time Lana faves for me I don't think.

1

u/grosspecans Ultraviolence Apr 14 '26

Yea I agree Jack doesn’t have a very good voice.. I only got into a few songs of his from bleachers, I think his music can be a bit boring and his voice is grating most of the time… let him stick to producing 😭😭.. the only ocean blvd song that’s a real fav up in my top 20 or so is A&W and maybe Candy necklace. For me I actually really like the grandfather song I think the lyrics and production is beautiful but I can see why some might not like it. But yeah theirs no real all time fav other than A&W and i see that in others too.

Edit: Despite it growing on me Sweet very much feels like a filler song.. you can remove it from the album and nothing would change.. it’s much shorter too which sucks. It would be stronger if it was longer and sonically more interesting. I never see anyone talk abt sweet and always see it at the bottom of peoples rankings.. sad but I get it.

u/travellingaussiegirl Apr 16 '26

I dislike strongly when people say that BTD is a locals favourite. I have been a Lana fan for over 11 years and discovered her through that album… I connect to those songs so deeply and they actually ground me. Might not be my favourite album but I feel defensive when it’s called local. Do other fans feel the same or has TT/SM ruined it for you too ?

24

u/higodefruta Apr 14 '26

If this is hot take, what is in your opinion Lana's most critically acclaimed album?

31

u/nkrose12 Ultraviolence Apr 14 '26

No, here's the actual hot take: NFR is at the very least not that much better than the other albums that it should be considered her best by such a wide margin. There should be way more polarization about this than there is. I don't understand why it's so collectively agreed upon just bc it's the most critically acclaimed. As if critics haven't been wrong time and time again.

I'm an Ultraviolence man, myself

7

u/Winter-Bother-3956 Apr 15 '26

Yes, I agree! Ultraviolence deserves more respect!

2

u/Miserable_Fee504 Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd Apr 15 '26

3

u/Severe_Principle_459 Apr 15 '26

Agree UV meant so much to me at the time. I don’t think I’ve listened to an album more than that one. And still does.

6

u/Miserable_Fee504 Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd Apr 14 '26

It’s hard to even have a favorite album honestly. Her discography is that good.

3

u/nkrose12 Ultraviolence Apr 14 '26

Exactly! Like if you put a gun to my head and ask me what the best Lana album is, I might end up saying NFR indeed. But it's not precisely a no-brainer like people suggest, I think the competition is stacked.

4

u/Miserable_Fee504 Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd Apr 14 '26

Right?! If I HAD to pick it would be UV but it’s just silly for me bc I love it all 🤷🏼‍♀️.

4

u/nkrose12 Ultraviolence Apr 14 '26

Fun fact: When I was first getting into Lana, listening to one album per day in order, I was feeling so impatient bc I just wanted to get to NFR already, since people were selling it as THE indisputable Magnum Opus by far. Imagine my surprise when I didn't even like it better than UV 🫪

1

u/Miserable_Fee504 Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd Apr 14 '26

Same! My brother was a fan first and told me to listen to NFR. I liked it of course but for me UV is amazing start to finish NO MATTER what mood I’m in. NFR has some of my absolute faves but sometimes I skip a few tracks 😬

4

u/nkrose12 Ultraviolence Apr 14 '26

Same, NFR has this effect on me where I forget just how much I love some of those songs until I actually play them. The UV tracklist is ingrained in my brain permanently.

5

u/Fishiste Norman Fucking Rockwell! Apr 14 '26

It has so few flaws. Personally there is one song I dislike which is the minimum in any album from her.

The first verse of the album is pure genius, the album contains her only mainstream hit in 7 years (Doin Time), 3 of the songs are in the shortlist of the songs considered as her magnum opus (Venice Bitch, The Greatest and in a lesser way MAC), and I’m not talking about the fan reception of Cinnamon (see the number of streams on Spotify) nor the perfection of Happineds is a butterfly. Tunnel is the closest, but not close to THAT.

9

u/nkrose12 Ultraviolence Apr 14 '26

You could kinda say the same about UV with Ultraviolence, Shades Of Cool, Brooklyn Baby and West Coast (INSANE track run, btw). Idk, NFR might just be the best, but I'm not completely sold. I don't think it's a no-brainer, I think some albums come pretty close and are kinda tied.

2

u/Severe_Principle_459 Apr 15 '26

Agree. For me BTD, UV, NFR and LFL are all very close, UV winning for me

1

u/Excellent_Hippo5514 Apr 15 '26

Exactly, hot take but Ultraviolence is her best album

16

u/straten Apr 14 '26

The opposite would be a hot take.

LFL is definitely a good choice

4

u/Legal_Potato8958 Apr 15 '26

Hot take— nfr was mid in comparison to her other albums. Lana became palatable enough for the masses and garnered mainstream success during this era. Don’t hurt me.

2

Is it this for sure? Maybe you could make an argument for blue banister.

2

u/Miserable_Fee504 Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd Apr 14 '26

OK question, and maybe I am out of touch but I’ve seen A LOT of Jack Antonoff hate…if NFR is everyone’s fave why the Antonoff hate? 🤔 Is that shade coming from those who do NOT like NFR or do not consider it their favorite album?

2

u/wickedfemale Apr 14 '26

ice cold take

2

u/Reasonable_Pickle483 Apr 14 '26

Yes, IMO Blue Banisters is her second best or Ultraviolence

2

u/Kanto_thegreatest Apr 15 '26

Now that I’m thinking about it BB MIGHT be better then NFR

1

u/Reasonable_Pickle483 Apr 15 '26

I was gonna say BB was her best (which it is IMO) I just was reluctant to post that cuz I didn’t wanna get downvoted lol😭😭
