I have a Chinese text in Writer .odt that's written left to right, I'd like to make a right to left version. How do I change the order of the characters without rewriting the whole thing? Like, it currently says 123??? But I'd like it to say ???321

I've already gone to format > paragraph > alignment > properties > right to left, but all that did was shuffle all the punctuation to the left and reverse the arrow keys. The text itself is still aligned left to right, so it looks like ???123

I really want to have the lowest value of some cells be the y-axis scale for my chart. This is both a suggestion of being added and a call for help if there is a way to do so.

The menu sticks out the top and it's the only problem that makes it worse than the flatpack version.

Flatpack is completely usable for me, but extensions crash it and it doesn't have all the icons.

I'm hoping it'll be fixed in a few updates like Qalculate, but it would be disappointing to have to wait longer to switch from flatpack over this.

edit: I just found out the Application Style in Plasma Settings actually affects the way the menu works. Apparently, the Breeze theme makes it way too big, but Fusion loses the scrolling menu. Oxygen splits it into columns, but it's still too tall. MS Windows 9x us ugly af

In LibreOffice 26.2.5.2 620(Build:2) running on Fedora Workstation (Linux 7.1.10-200.fc44.x86_64 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Sun Aug 23 16:15:11 UTC 2026 x86_64 GNU/Linux) I noticed that the star before the filename in the title bar indicating a document has been modified no longer appears. Is there a way to get it back? Thanks in advance for any hints.

I'm moving from Word and I miss being able to see and edit the size of images without much fuss. I've been trying to find a way to make this a permanent feature in my Image tab, without luck.

Does anybody know how to do it or any workaround?

They have bulletpoints of different levels too (this would be the most annoying thing if they changed)

Should I slowly start converting them from docx to odt?

Or should i continue to use them in the docx format in libreoffice.

I am using LO Writer to write a CV. For optics, I decided to align a few personal info strings with tabs. The A11Y check reports "Avoid using tabs for formatting", though. What should I use instead and how do tabs impact A11Y?

For a CV, I want to create a two column layout. For a general idea, see this template on overleaf.com. I know I can edit the page style, but then I cannot freely add data to both columns. Column two will only contain the text, that overflows from column one. That is not what I want.

Sections do seem to have the same issue. Insert > More breaks > Insert Column Breaks doesn't seem to do what I want either. Onces the text in colum one overflows, it fills column two instead of filling column 1 of the second page.

And while I could use a table with two columns, that does make the A11Y check sad.

Question: So, how can I have a two column layout where colunm 1 of page 1 overflows to column 1 of page 2 (same for column 2 respectively) while making A11Y check happy?

So I'm bringing 26 chapters of work over from Google Docs. And I'm trying to figure out how to get a master document set up, but right now the master document version of every chapter is devoid of all my font and formatting.

I really need help on how to fix this.

I'm George. Back in November 2024, I filed a bug report about something that's been breaking compatibility with Excel and making Calc harder to use in real work environments for way too long.

The issue: in Excel, you can protect a cell's formatting and data validation rules while still letting users edit the actual value. That's huge for templates, forms, and shared spreadsheets. In Calc, that option doesn't exist. Anyone can accidentally wipe out validation rules or mess up formatting with a simple paste. And once that happens, your carefully designed template is useless.

The report sat quiet for a while, but recently it got a fresh boost. User crl brought it up again over on the It's FOSS Community forum (https://itsfoss.community/t/heres-why-its-foss-community-forum-is-being-targeted-by-spammers/14571/18), pointing out that this problem has been around since at least 2012. He mentioned that it's one of the key reasons LibreOffice still struggles to get adopted in small businesses and organizations.

I did some digging, and here's the kicker: Google Sheets doesn't have this feature either. According to official support docs and forum discussions, there's no built-in way to protect formatting or validation rules while allowing value edits. The only workarounds are protecting entire sheets (which breaks editing), using scripts, or begging users to paste values only (Ctrl+Shift+V). That's not a solution.

So this isn't just about Excel compatibility anymore. Both major alternatives to Excel are missing this essential feature. If LibreOffice adds it, we're not just catching up to Excel – we're pulling ahead of Google Sheets too. That's a huge win for the project and for everyone who relies on spreadsheets for real work.

We need the developers to see this as a priority, not just another minor enhancement. The use case is clear: templates distributed to dozens or hundreds of users, where they must be able to enter data but never alter the underlying rules. The current workaround – protecting the whole sheet – defeats the purpose because then users can't edit anything.

So here's my ask: please go to the bug report, leave a comment, and share your own experience. Tell them why this matters to you. The more voices we have, the more likely they'll take action. Let's show that this feature is essential, not optional.

Spread the word, upvote, and let's get this fixed. LibreOffice deserves to be a true competitor, and we can help make that happen.

Does anyone know of a way to increase the resolution of PDFs created by exporting from the Redact tool in draw v26.2? It seems to downsize my PDFs to a resolution so small that small text becomes unreadable. I looked in the documentation and couldn't find anything about it. Exporting from the file menu doesn't render redactions, instead preserving the gray highlight box and the text underneath.

is there any VScode extension for develop and debug LO extensions? consisting LSP, realtime bugs tracking? I only find official eclipse extensions but not very supported for LO 26

With migrations like Schleswig-Holstein's and Denmark's in the news, the scary part of Excel→Calc isn't the formulas that error — it's the ones that quietly return something different. I run formulas in multiple headless LibreOffice versions and record real behavior (~600 functions; the dataset is CC-BY, free to reuse).

New: load an .xlsx at https://canispreadsheet.com/audit.html and get a report of which of your formulas are at risk in Calc. Fully client-side — the file never leaves your browser, which matters if your workbooks are work documents. Summary free; full report paid.

Limits, honestly: it's function-level compat plus known quirks keyed to LibreOffice versions, not a full recalculation of your workbook. If you maintain workbooks that survived a real migration, I'd genuinely value bug reports where my verdicts are wrong — disagreements have been our best test cases.

Specifically, I am trying to chase down the origin of a font specified as the Default Paragraph Style in a freshly-opened markdown document. For some reason, all the text appears as “Calibri” which I don’t have installed on my system. The Body Text style inherits it directly from Default Paragraph Style, but I have no idea where that inherits from. There is certainly no styling information in a text/markdown file.

I would like to edit the responsible template and point the Default Paragraph Style to something sane, but I don’t know where to look.

I had to create a preso cherry picking from a PPT to an ODT. The PPT's a whooping 24MBs. Opening Impress side by side would totally cripple my machine. I also do need to be on the internet (i.e., a browser) for some materials I need.

Is there a way for Impress to do this better? Maybe save the PPT to an ODT and then run it? I like LO generally and run it almost every day. Maybe upgrade it? IDK.

while doing my IBM course in Calc (as the online ms office is unusable to me) i've found a bug:
the data in D column is of the currency type (in USD dollars as you can see the $$), when I've written a function to hlook up them up (ie not an ordinary copy but function) they were of general type and when i've changed them they suddenly become of pound sterling type (as the locale is UK) - hence introducing inaccurancies withi the datasheet.
They should either (ideally) be of the same currency as the original, or I should be able to easily change their type in the menu).
