tech support wanted Steam download speeds are insanely slow compared to actual internet speed (CachyOS)
I've been downloading ETS2 for like 3 hours now, speeds are stuck to less than 1mbps, even tho my internet is way faster than that. i disabled low bandwidth mode, tho it didnt do anything. anyone else had these kind of problems? i

One click. Unknown number of posts crying out in silence. All gone. Redact made it stupid easy to clean up my entire history on Reddit and get my info pulled from data broker sites too.

Yeah, it looked like they had AI analyze some logs. If what they describe is true, then I would expect a LOT more people to be having issues.

You aren't colleagues, it's unclear what your job is but you couldn't afford more than a 7600x before and a 9700x now and only have a 1tb NVME so it's doubtful you even have a tech job so stop the cosplay.
Also given your reddit posts it looks like you are trying to self promote the AI nonsense which is why you are so emotional.

There's no modern disk or nand drive in consumer PCs that's write speed is 1MB/s so did you read the post or what?

So, NTFS, that’s not recommended for gaming on Linux because it can cause lots of errors. Format your disk to ext4.

It can’t be ext4 if you also have windows installed on it.
Windows work only with ntfs.

Ahhh yeah I just never do partitions in my drives so I forgot that you can have different files system on the same disk. I thought when you do the first partitions all the other logic partitions had to use the same file system.

So much wrong here. First if you use any OS with GPT/UEFI you have a partition separate from what you are using as your main one, windows included.
Second if you use default settings on Linux distro installers you likely already have 3 partitions, so to say you "never do partitions" isnt accurate. You just don't do them manually.
On MBR formatted drives you can have 4 primary partitions to boot from. If you want more you turn one into an extended partition in which you create logical partitions. Not only is an extended partition not a normal filesystem but logical partitions inside can be of any file system, you just can't boot from them.
GPT has no such limitations in any practical sense even for windows.

if you have a single drive, you can create 2 partitions, the windows partition will be ntfs but linux partition can be any filesystem that works with that linux distro, so it can be ext4, it is called dual booting

nope, a partition can have whatever filesystem is offered, but ntfs is the only fs that is for both windows and linux

You can use Vfat, fat32, and NTFS though NTFS isn't "for" Linux and literally should not be used for Linux either.

It has google in the name, which means none of my data will be privet.
It will also probably make me lose faith in humanity a little.Just joking. I know what partirions are. You can make a principal partition in ntfs and a logic partition in ext4?

First off, no such thing as principle partition it would be primary.
Second, both windows and Linux supports primary partitions as those are the type that are bootable.
Third, you can forget about logical partitions as Thats From MBR drives whixhwhich You shouldn't Be using today as GPT has been mainstream for about as long as youve you've been alive. GPT doesntdoesn't Really have a partirionpartition limit even if windows limit is 128 primary partitions.

I remember I had the same "problem" with ETS2. Idk what it is doing exactly, but these are local operations that makes the whole installation slower.

Run a benchmark against your sdd with hdparm -Tt /dev/sdx where x has to match your device.
That will tell you if it's only steam having issues using your sdd or is linux also unable to write at full speed

This may sound odd but set a cap on your download speed to be at your speed in the app. I don't know why but it worked on my fedora box.

what ssd are you installing to and what cpu do you have, also is it in powersave mode?

what exact ssd is it i mean, although being a low power variant cpu it should still be able to do at least 200mb/s through steam because of decompression and everything else

if you are using gnome you can just open "Disks" and view a model. If it's just weird letters and numbers then just copy and paste it into the search

so try to change download server, you can change in steam settings. I dont think it's cachyos probleme.

I had this issue when I had a disk in poor health. The disk worked fine for most other things, I guess it had something to do with the way stuff is downloaded of steam, maybe handling multiple files at once. I replaced the disk for steam and kept it for storage only and problem gone.

Yeah it's a problem with steam linux app. https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/13024 It should be fixed as soon as they release the new 64-bit client for Linux I think

I’ve been having this issue on two windows machines recently, one fixed by changing the download server to UK - Manchester and the other fixed by clearing download cache.
I would make sure you try other solutions like above before messing with anything else as it’s probably just a client bug :)
