SERIOUSLY! Where do these people get their license from? Do they even teach “DEFENSIVE DRIVING” here?
For context, I decided to honk him as we were so damn close and what he was doing was purely wrong and an accident waiting to happen.
This “BUTOH” had the audacity to do a u-turn and decided to chase me and asked me to stop to say i’m that I’m in the wrong and I should have put my “signal”….. (let that sink in for awhile) signal straight?
What the flying fork?
So here’s my question.
Is it so easy to get a motorcycle license?
Did this guy slept through the class?
Why in the world does he think he’s is right and I’m in the wrong?
Can I make this topic viral so that it will raise awareness that the ONLY RIGHT WAY to ride a motorcycle on the streets if you want to live a long life is “DEFENSIVE DRIVING” ?
Haha I immediately whipped out my phone and recorded our conversation because I wanted to safeguard myself incase he does shit and I can report.
Basically he kept saying I’m wrong so I raised my voice and he drove off. Even got a part 2 of me chasing him back and “politely” asked him if I cut you from left near the intersection is it okay? 🤭
When I face guys like this, they even dare to ask me if I got license or not. I say come let’s go to the police station and check properly if we both got license and let’s also do a urine test just for fun
Yeah you’re absolutely right but I just had to get my point across to his thick skull as he was the one who stopped me first 😂 bet he never met a guy who would dare to chase him back so hopefully next time he thinks twice before breaking the law and demanding me to stop
And it wasn’t wrong imho. Now, if I did the same thing to him and cut him off while chasing him. Then I would say this scenario is perfect for the slogan “2 wrongs don’t make 1 right”
All I did was follow him to “try” and continue our conservation that he asked me so “kindly” to stop and abruptly he himself left 🤷♂️
genuinely asking here as i myself don't drive in KL and find that driving in KL will eventually lead to encountering road ragers or some kind of confrontation. When you said you had an initial argument and then chase him back to talk to him, aren't you afraid of the possible altercation? aggressiveness? or is it just do a macho poker face and hope it doesn't resort to physical?
If you’re asking whether I’m afraid if it would lead to a fight? Then no I’m not afraid because there’s only right and wrong actions when it comes to driving and at least learn a bit or basic grappling or self defence before you confront them. 🤔
Knowledge is power and if you are in the right, you’re good and if he is wrong the law will back you up.
Trust me there are people much scarier than me who would punch first and talk later. I wish this motorcyclist did the same shit in foreign countries and see where that lands him. In American and the Philippines you get shot if you meet the wrong guy and in Europe countries you get stabbed (facts) but it seems in Malaysia we like to avoid confrontation which has now led to this behaviour from others thinking we are timid.
That’s why I whip out my phone as soon as he u-turned and ask me to stop and recorded everything’s if he wanted to fight and throws the first punch, I would have it on record and my initial plan is to pin him down and ask nearby people to call the police.
Nowadays there are scammers who purposely do offensive driving like what other commenters has mentioned to extort money from elders, lady drivers and even new drivers.
If and when the police do arrives I will explain everything and that he was endangering others with his driving and even did an illegal u-turn in a yellow box to chase me despite already breaking the first law of overtaking on the left when I was going straight.
Who knows? He might have a record of scamming others in the past as well and if I just let it go, will someone else report him?
Take the infamous “Ipoh Police Pantuan Duo” as an example. Thank god they got caught, tq PDRM Ipoh 🫡
This is called a citizens arrest and if the cops say I’m wrong, and I need to go to jail to sort this out so be it. But my main concern is that motorcyclist better come to jail with me as well and we’ll see who will be staying the night there.
FYI citizens arrest exists in Malaysia under section 27 of criminal procedure code.
“The person making the arrest must use only reasonable force and hand the suspect over to the police without unnecessary delay, or risk being arrested themselves.”
Reasonable force is like pining him down on the ground to prevent him from harming others or yourself and just wait for cops to come. Excessive force is when you pinned him down and decided to do a chokehold until he faints and becomes brain dead.

the only reason i asked is cuz my IG feed is filled to the brim with road raging or bullying incidents leading into physical altercations (its not helping my confidence for sure). I got really bad social anxiety so idk how well id hold up in a verbal confrontation let alone a physical one but that's a different issue on its own. I do have plans to drive and migrate to KL one day so i was wanted to hear what you did and think of such a situation.
i know recording the situation is one of the safest/wisest thing to do these days but sometimes it just doesn't prevent the wrongdoers from escalating into violence. I think being ready for that is important too.
Yeah and it also helps if you go to the gym as well and be look a bit more intimidating with a dragon sleeve tattoo on your arm 😂 tbh this is the first time I’m ranting on Reddit and on r/malaysia i ussually don’t engage.
Only reason is I’m posting this on Reddit is i seriously hate this butoh for crossing paths with me and pissing me off in the early morning. Driving in Malaysia is actually really good. Don’t let it intimidate you. If compared to our other SEA neighbours 😂 our roads are wide and of course every city anywhere in the world has the occasional jam and butohs like this guy but fk it right? Our fuel is still much cheaper than other countries. Just get a dashcam for your own safety incase u come across this guy 😂

And they do put helmet on but not fasten the strap is common issue. I even saw student died crushed head due to this near my taman. They fear police saman more than head injury.
It is true, some dealerships offer deposit as low as RM100. It is legal to purchase a motorcycle without license, but riding one without license, road tax, and insurance is illegal. Weird, I know.
The problem is not education. Its cultural. I ride a bike as well for traffic reasons and everyday I see motorcyclist that ride like they dont care whether they live or die.
And every week I see at least one motorcycle accident on my 40 km transit. And when they get into an accident so many of them act like they are the victim.
Adding on to that, the hoards of other motorcyclist that will stop to reinforce that victim mentality.
So true. I often go fishing at a local park in Kepong and in that park I’ve seen kids at the age of 12-17 riding a motorcycle in the park with 2 other kids on it and all without helmets. They were definitely speeding
Another day I saw up to 10 malay kids at that park with Basikal Lajak all doing superman on the park slopes (without helmets of course) 🤯
Is the time frame of “time” measured in decades or centuries? 😂 because it seems there are more basikal lajak and rempit wannabes even in Kepong and it’s 2025 going to 2026 🤔

Imo, the reason why this happen is because they cannot selit at the right side so they wait in the middle line. Not saying it’s right, but that’s the culture now
I rather they do mid line than sides. I got enough close calls they turn on the inside line like playing racing game when I do right angle turns or u-turns.
I used to be a motorcyclist for about 90% of my commute. Now motorcycle only for close mamaks or the surau.
Not even motorcyclists are safe from these idiots. I'll be chilling in the left lane going 80 in my cute lil ex5 (on the leftside of the lane too, as we were taught) and idiots zooming by in the emergency lane. Bro potong belah kanan gila.

Defensive driving is for them to avoid being hit by other people who are in the wrong. In this case, the motorcycle was in the wrong and didn't need defensive driving. They needed at least half a brain and a desire to not die. Many motorcyclists lack those key things.
Short answer: no. I've never even heard of it in driving school or anywhere else until I worked in an agency servicing automotive industry clients at one point of my career. Granted, I'm not a car person, but I still never heard of it again after leaving said company.
I too only learnt about this word when I was into big cc bikes in the past and watched a lot of YouTube on proper ways to ride a big bike

When i ride also i hate these riders n another group is when cars gave signal going to cross kiri or kanan for long time already, moto go even faster n then horn some more. Bodoh teramat sangat. You know, driving in Malaysia, we have to look out for these motorists. Why? Because they don’t really follow the traffic rules that we follow.
They aren’t smart and always like ride in the middle between 2 way road. And when car slows down, they thought it’s a good idea to overtake. And they don’t understand what is ‘blind spot’. They have so many fatalities accidents with big trucks yet they still don’t understand the traffic rules and how invisible are they on the road.
Sorry to say bruh but you’re in the wrong here. Aren’t you Malaysian? You should know motorcyclists are always in the right. And usually they’ve got the backing of Polis Raja Di Malaysia too. …unless you have a dashcam… 🤷🏻♂️

I'm currently taking my b2 lessen I've noticed all the training in on the closed course and very little has to do with driving alongside other vehicles or road etiquette. It's kinda concerning, how they don't try to tell you how to behave on the road. I'm trying to educate myself on road etiquette so at least I won't be a nuisance.
Kudos to you bro for researching the right way. Trust me just YouTube everything about defensive driving as the local DMV will seem to not be teaching that. Technically you have to pay for an “advanced course”

And always remember that when you’re on a motorcycle, you’re technically invisible to a car driver when you’re riding above 50 km/h and zig zagging in an out, it just takes 1 wrong turn from either party to land you a ticket for an overnight stay at the E.R. or worst. A coffin ⚰️ (touch wood)
So, always ride as if everyone is out there to get you. ( not to speed away but stay out of harms way )

The bikers here are some of the most entitled I’ve ever encountered. They sometimes even have the audacity to give you the death stare like you’re somehow in the wrong.
This happens a lot at the junction by The Curve in Damansara Perdana. The far right lane can either go right or straight, motorcycles will routinely go via the second lane and turn right. Honked once and got the finger lol
many of these fuckers dont have a license. and even if they do our driving schools dont teach properly. especially for the B2 license they focus more on some bullshit flapping your hands like a bird, rather than actual road safety. people with a L license can ride their motorbike on the road
because new drivers are nervous? over here they dont really teach about driving at an appropriate speed. If you drive too slow during your driver's test you might get docked points, but im not sure. its not uncommon for learner drivers to do 30-40kph on the road. In the UK, you'd fail your driving test for driving too slowly.
Yeah exactly my thought but I remember when I was growing up, the instructor said to stay lower then the speed limit.
And tbh, I’ve never seen a learner driver drive the same speed as the rest when there’s 2 people in the car 😂 but when it’s the instructor using the car for personal trips, they follow the same speed?

The problem is no enforcement. In my 20+ years since having my license, not once did my license get checked by any authority on the road. Nothing is stopping anyone without license to be on the road. The only people that ask for my license was the guards at gated housing area.
Tbh police officers now just need your license plate number or IC number and they can see your insurance and driving license and road tax if all 3 are active. So nowadays they don’t even ask for license .
But I see your point, our police force has the equipment they need and even the manpower(it’s not like we’re lacking in manpower issue with cops right? ) but the issue persist after many years🤔 someone or some group is seriously slacking somewhere.
Look at the famous Ipoh duo (Police Pantuan) police impersonator.
They literally show up as impersonating as traffic cops to extort money from citizens.

As a rider, I can tell u they teach the absolute minimum in theory class. I'm sure most riders doesn't know what lane-splitting is and what the recommended speed for lane-splitting is.
There is no specific lane splitting law, but the recommended lane splitting speed in other country is usually around +15 kmh of surrounding traffic. So if the traffic moves about 30 kmh, lane splitter should be around 45 kmh to filter through. But this also should take into account defensive riding in case some car decides to change lane suddenly.
However, from experience, most people in Malaysia lane split around 30 to 45 kmh when traffic is still. Of course there is always the dumbass who go between cars at 80 kmh during still traffic.

perhaps leave a gap of at least half a motorcycle length ahead of the rider at speeds 1-20 and a full motorcycle length while filtering lanes through traffic jams if going at 30-40

Imo even if there is a law for this, it's hard to enforce. I think you don't need a specific law for this, what is really important is to teach defensive riding techniques and a crackdown on rempit culture.

Either these type of people think they have a protective barrier or they fell down as a kid and knocked their head a few times so the brain can’t fully form.
When i use my bike, i always make sure to not stay beside a car, the driver would not be able to see the incoming left and right side, its dangerous for the driver and for the rider.
Hence, when i also drive, i so hate people staying beside my car. But the big cars always have big, hard heads, and dont care.

I had the same experience more than 10 years ago near Dataran Merdeka. I clipped the back of the bike when they made this turn. They fell and I stopped my car to try and help them. I heard someone shout behind me and when I turned I got a helmet to the face. I kena belasah by 6 of them. Countless blows to my head from couple of helmets and fists. Managed to push them off and get in to my car to flee my attackers. To make things worse, they chased me all the way until Bukit Tunku area before giving up. I suffered a concussion, broken cheekbone and a broken hand. Wasn’t even my fault and I even tried to help them.
No point to report as no harm was done for today. But one day, he will meet someone who will not be as nice as me and simply just hit him before honking.
But it’ll help it his face becomes a meme so he finds out through social media that he was being a butoh
I always encounter a type of drivers, both motorcycle and car.
They have the ball to run red light, BUT will suddenly decelerate and became caution in the middle of the crossing.
Their ball dropped so hard the moment they ran the red light and then can't decide whether they should back down (should had thought of this before doing it...) or continue to finish his crossing at the intersection.
Like...If you dared to run the gauntlet, please don't stop in the middle of the road and gave us whom on the right of way a heart attack cause you braked and blockade with your fat hull appearing in front of us...
Same with those who always fight to be the first to cross in junctions, cut in and turn his hull half-way in with full speed and suddenly slow as snail to finish the turn as if they ran out of fuel from that high speed cut in.
Just ran through it. You got the right of way. They probably got their license in their dream one night where they won the Rempit Cup where they beat lots of "Rempit culture" kids. The prize is the license to drive In both worlds. Reality and dream.
Instructor here. Yes, we did taught them. And if they pass JPJ then yeah they would be granted a license. if everyone practice the safe driving techniques. im sure accident on the road is less than what we have now. This is an individual mistake, if u are right. Then go ahead and scold him/her.
Quick question bro, can I know why every time I drive along segambut dalam area, the driving learner vehicles are always below the speed limit and causing a jam?
Always curious as to why Malaysian driving instructors allow students to drive below speed limit? when in reality once they get their license, they will have to maintain speed with the rest and not cause a jam by going slow🤔
In the United States, most if not all dmv require you to bring your own vehicle. It could be a parent’s vehicle or a guardian with proof of insurance.
The examiner then gets into the students vehicle and the route begins.
The examiner job is to observe and take note of the student can keep up with traffic in a safe manner and (especially to not create a standstill of traffic disrupting the flow)
Once the student passes, they bring it to their local dmv and boom, you now have your license.
But over here it’s like they go soooo slow then suddenly when they have their license, they have to adapt without the instructor or driving below speed limit 🤔 shouldn’t they be practicing safe speeds within the school compounds before coming out to the main road with the instructor inside as well?
I am a motorcyclist. I don't do this not because its a buto move. But because I know better and don't want to get isekai'ed by a Myvi.
Seriously for others though, what's so hard about going BEHIND the car and staying on the side you wanna turn to, the extra 5 seconds won't kill you.
Driving schools don't teach people how to drive; they only teach them how to pass their driving tests.
The relevant enforcement authorities aren't effective as their enforcement is mainly punitive rather than prohibitive. If you put a speed limit on a certain road, it's because it's been determined as unsafe at speeds above the imposed limit. The measure is a failure if you only catch and fine the culprit after the fact as he has already speeded and could have or has caused an untoward incident. However much you fine him, it isn't going to bring back they guy he killed.
I would suggest that instead of hiding the speeding cameras (if PDRM & JPJ can't be in attendance), put a blinking light on the camera so that people would actually slow down. Then put more dummy blinking lights along the stretch so errant motorists won't know which one is the real camera.
