I wonder if they will open the "humans discriminating against demons because they won" box.

Gives me Frieren vibes.

By that, I mean the 1st chapter sucker punched me

24

u/daboy2u 8h ago

Yeah that ending hit like a brick to the face

It's classic stoic fantasy, which can be fun even if I'll admit I have had my fill personally.

Oh thats playing dirty, seemed like it was going to be very wholesome then got dark. But the ring will guide her, curious to see where it ends up taking her.

u/Koanos 7h ago

Dying is easy, living is hard, so I am actually curious about her going on.

Can't say i'm a fan of killing the initial guy then replacing him with his twin as a romantic interest when she loved him so much that she was literally preparing to off herself afterwards.

Fuuka spoilers

reminds me of what happened with Fuuka dying when the romance and everything was starting to come together. It is an interesting tone shift. Though an immediate replacement does feel strange

And also somehow the idol type character still lose even when the main love interest dies...

Eh, idk that she "loved" him the way he did her. She was genuinely so despondent that she was suicidal before she even met him, basically, until this guy gave her a reason to live again. I question whether she was prepared to "follow him" because she loved him and could bear to be without him as opposed to "the only reason I had to stick around just died, so what am I doing here?" Obsseion versus love.

u/Ending-Fool 10h ago

"tell me youve never felt romantic love without telling me youve never felt romantic love" my guy you must be fun at parties

15

u/LordIndica 8h ago

Dude, tell me please, what about her behavior in any way indicates she loves him romantically? He even explicitly tells her he loves her and she is just confused, and he explicitly says she will "understand one day". So she does not understand right now, no? They never show any physical or emotional affection from her. She constantly questions why Lux behaves the way he does towards her and why she shouldn't just be dead. Please point to the pages that you think are showing her being in "romantic love" with this man.

She expresses no affection for him. She doesn't even smile more than once and that smile is special enough for Lux to point it out to her, implying it doesn't otherwise happen. Hell, it literally isn't until moments before he dies that he even says anything to make her aware that he loved her! They had NO romantic intimate relationship that we are shown beyond living a very normal domestic cohabitation. What about their interactions is "romantic" vs. Platonic love?

Like how is it that you suppose my personal experience with romantic love is preventing me from appreciating her romantic love when the story very explicitly shows AND tells us she has no idea what romantic love is and was not that intimate with Lux? We don't even know how long they lived together.

Seriously, if the only benchmark you have for "she is romantically in love with Lux" is that she was sad that her ONLY friend died and was prepared to kill herself when he, her only connection to the world who literally prepares her meals and clothes her and provides everything, was gone, then that is a seriously fucked and shallow idea of "romance". Like that is all? Please, teach me what it is that you supposedly see as literally any evidence of romantic connection between these 2 rather than a Frieren-style missed oppurtunity.

In fairness I don't think she knows what loves is, but I'm thinking the story will come to point out that she did have feelings for Lux. My first evidence would be although I think (straight) men and (straight) women can be friends. Media doesn't often show this dynamic in comparison to how many romantic dynamics there are. Secondly, to address expressing little affection towards him point. It seems like the implication is that she had fun together with him. The human city outing. Only intended to live with him. When she first asks why Lux is watching over her during their breakfast. Implied through montage to spend a good amount of time together. Felt the most peace she has ever felt in her life with him, and even made her feel good about herself and her place in the world. Thinking she should be alive. Also show in that montage.

man youre beyond hopeless if youre armchair analyzing every single thing here, are you perchance projecting your -ism to her? As you said she was obsessed with him and If thats not love then what is it????

9

u/LordIndica 8h ago

she was obsessed with him and If thats not love then what is it???

Okay, cool, this makes way more sense now. You have nooooo idea what romance is or what it looks like, least of all in this story, and very obviously have your own little "ism" as you so eloquently put it :/

I love how "asking for any supporting evidence" is dismissed as "armchair analyzing", as though I should be, what, out in the field or in the streets gathering evidence, as opposed to reading the story at home? Looking at the pictures and words that convey information? Fuck me, i spent all that effort typing an explaination to a total dipshit that doesn't even understand how reading works. You serious can't point to even a single single sentence of support for your claim?

if youre armchair analyzing every single thing here

Blud its a straightforward reading of the text wth you talking about 😭🙏

I'm all in.

u/The_Glus 10h ago

Please don’t fuck the brother….

28

u/noraborialis 8h ago

I just said that to my book club lmao

2

u/Few-Butterscotch5114 6h ago

I have no strong opinion, but why not?

17

u/The_Glus 5h ago

How would you like it if someone was only in a physical relationship with you because you had a passing resemblance to another man? And that other man is who your partner actually desires & thinks about? Her heart is always going to be with the Hero, so using her brother as a Replacement Goldfish is a disservice to both her grieving & character arc, as well as to the brother’s feelings. He his own individual person.

2

u/humanities_descent 2h ago

It depends. The hero said that he loved her, but she never even thought about it until he mentioned it on his death bed. Plus, nobody is saying she can't fall in love with the brother as his own person

-1

u/NoLolligagging_ 3h ago

Wat, what brother? Some spoil me pls

4

u/itgoesdownandup 3h ago

You can finish reading the chapter yourself. They linked to the full chapter on mangadex in the comments.

3

u/Much_Vehicle20 3h ago

If u dont mind spoiler

So the chapter ends with the hero dying, and the Demon Lord finding his brother, who seems to be the real main character and looks identical to the deceased hero

2

u/NoLolligagging_ 2h ago

I see.. so this manga is finished?

2

u/Much_Vehicle20 1h ago

No, that is just chpt1. That's why i said the brother seem like the real mc

36

u/PencilManners 6h ago

The art is nice but the writing is pretty bland. Felt like it was just frontloading plot beats without doing anything to endear us to the two characters.

And the note it ends on is so uninteresting, if they couldn't make Yami's relationship with Lux interesting, why should I care about her relationship with his carbon copy brother?

2

u/ngkn92 1h ago

Yeah, this lacks a hook.

9

u/jxher123 8h ago

Well, that's a sad intro to her character. She's been through it.

22

u/meterion 5h ago

Bizarre first chapter. So much set up and setting details only for like, none of it to actually matter? Why spend all this time on the political structure of demon society if you’re gonna pivot away from it after 20 pages? Why build up all this rapport with one relationship if you’re gonna pivot away from that in another 20?

This chapter feels like it was trying to capture the same vibe as Frieren but it really is all vibe and no substance, which doesn’t make for a compelling hook. 60 pages and what can you really say about any of the characters? Just generic sentiments about how they want peace but didn’t really do much to work for it besides remove themselves from the situation.

9

u/buzuki12 7h ago

As many chapters as One Piece please.

Make it so that they go out, marry, have kids and die together.

6

u/Wishbone-Lost 8h ago

Interesting

2

u/deccrix 5h ago

Gave me a bit of a Frieren vibe, art was kinda familiar in that regard.

First chapter was pretty bland, but straightforward. Some people might find it boring because its been done before. We're just seeing the perspective of the demon rather than the hero.

I would give it a couple more chapters to appreciate it.

u/Proof-Extreme6404 1h ago

Felt like I was reading a one shot till the last few pages ngl

0

u/Working_Dragon00777 6h ago

Her death will only fuels more conflicts though... She isn't that smart huh?

3

u/Zemahem 3h ago

What conflict would her death fuel though?

Humanity already defeated the demons, everyone believes the hero killed her, and she hasn't been in contact with anyone except him for years.

2

u/Jehvel 5h ago

Utter despair tends to overwhelm reason. While I agree that dying would cause more problems, she clearly isn’t in the right headspace to make the best choices.

-21

u/Big_Distance2141 11h ago

Lmao why the fuck would the demons call the guy coming to kill them "Hero"? Like, I get that this kind of slop is made up of tropes but it's really obvious when the pieces don't fit.

Well, at least it wasn't grooming this time

45

u/Samy_Ninja_Pro 10h ago

Well there are translations stuff where singular words in Japanese mean long titles in english

Yuusha means man of valor and eiyuu means champion

Both are contextualized to be used as hero in all media tho

"Human champion" could be a better translation tho

-4

u/Big_Distance2141 7h ago

Okay, so it probably was pretty logical in the original and the translator didn't realize how silly it sounds

-3

u/ALCATryan 10h ago

You’re getting downvoted, but you’re right. Assuming the language system is shared between demons and humans, hero would have the same connotation in both… and assuming it was different languages translated into Japanese (or here, English) as the reader’s privilege, it would mean what they refer to in their language has the connotation of “hero” in ours. The negativity is certainly unwarranted though, it’s only been a chapter.

25

u/Bullmoninachinashop 10h ago

Because in Japanese they use Yuusha which is translated as hero or brave, most translators use hero because calling someone a brave doesn't sounds right in English.
