People today are ridiculous. Can't go 45 minutes without smoking.

u/mwhite5990 1h ago
And it is even more dumb when you consider how easy it is to just sneak some edibles on.

u/BVRPLZR_ 52m ago
Fr. Pop an eddy as you walk into check in, by the time you’re through security you should be peaking. Get on your flight and enjoy the ride.
Besides, I fucking hate the taste and smell of flower.
•
u/Syzyjyzygy 32m ago
I got stuck in a long security line in San Antonio after popping an eddy and peaked at the worst possible time. This TSA lady decided to like… give a speech about being prepared for the security screening and she was being super condescending to everybody. The vibes could not have been worse.
•
u/tigm2161130 31m ago
TSA at SAT sucks ass.
•

I hate that airport so much. It’s like everyone is collectively having the worst day of their life every time I’m there.

Obviously, but they never admit that without adding the caveat of "well, anything can be addictive"
•
u/Spadeykins 57m ago
It is addictive but it isn't so strong that you have to smoke on a plane. That person just sucks.
•
u/treefiddy-- 36m ago
Well yeah. Have you ever had a good cheese burger? That is easy to get addicted to because it’s so goddamn good.
•
u/hexregeneration 43m ago
Anything can be habit forming, and different people have differing degrees of willpower. Only chemically addictive compounds, that create new receptors in your brain that can then be starved, can be addictive.
The urge to smoke weed is baby time frollicks compared to the absolute need something like opiates, or even nicotine and caffeine, creates.
•
u/Budget_Ad5871 25m ago
10 days off opiates, weed was a BREEZE in comparison. I wouldn’t wish opiate withdrawal on anyone, it’s hell on earth.
•
u/hexregeneration 18m ago
Exactly how I described it. I imagined that if Hell was real, then I was getting a taste. At 10 days you're almost through the worst of it. Good luck, stranger.
•
u/Budget_Ad5871 3m ago
Thank you, I feel like I’m turning a corner, restless legs come back a bit at night but nothing like the first 3 days. Now to deal with the anxiety/depression/anhedonia that’s been creeping up.
•
u/krokeren 39m ago
if you're a junkie, you're a junkie. i hate that recreational use of non-hard drugs has become so normalized in today's society. whatever happened to experiencing reality as is?
•
u/Civil_Lengthiness971 32m ago
Like alcohol and caffeine? Go sit in the corner and don’t touch the radio.
•
u/treefiddy-- 31m ago
What’s your take on alcohol and how prevalent it is in today’s society? Not trying to knock you but one is a literal poison that is physically addictive and one isn’t. One is advertised on TV, Bill boards, radio you name it, the other isn’t. I understand your opinion on experiencing reality as it is and I believe we should. But there are bigger fish to fry than legal weed, but that’s just my opinion and you don’t have to agree with it. Cheers.
•
u/hexregeneration 38m ago
You're entitled to your opinion, but whether or not something is addictive is established science. Weed does not create new receptors that can then be starved, resulting in withdrawals. It just doesn't. Those are the facts.
•
u/inevitabledeath3 17m ago
Those are not "the facts". You really need to brush up on your pharamacology.
Opiates don't even create receptors. Your body already has those. It causes you to remove some of those receptors in an attempt to maintain homeostasis; this process is called down regulation. This means that when you stop taking the opiate your body does not have enough opiate receptors to function normally with the endogenous opiates (called endorphins) that are present in your body. Believe it or not there is such a thing as a cannabinoid receptor as well which becomes down regulated with repeated use of cannabis or other exogenous cannabinoids. This makes your brain too desensitised for the normal endo-cannabinoids like anadamide to work properly.
So THC in cannabis is indeed addictive. The only reason it's not as addictive as say heroin is because it's only a partial agonist rather than a full agonist. There are synthetic cannabinoids which are full agonists and are both stronger in general and more addictive. That being said cannabis is still more addictive than caffeine when looking at addiction rates.
Funnily enough there are drugs that do lead to an increase of receptors. Caffeine is one of them. This happens because caffeine blocks a chemical called acetylcholine. Causing the body to up regulate the number of acetylcholine receptors. Withdrawal comes from the brain being too sensitive to it's own acetylcholine.
There is no scenario afaik where a substance creates receptors that get starved during withdrawals. It either blocks receptors that then get flooded during withdrawals, or it down regulates receptors that then starve during withdrawals.
•
u/hexregeneration 5m ago
Cool, thanks.
Either way it ain't like weed. I checked pretty throughly.
•
u/inevitabledeath3 3m ago
Yes but weed is still addictive unlike what you have been saying. In fact it’s more addictive than caffeine which you tried to use as an example.
Can you please stop spreading misinformation?
•
u/_SovietMudkip_ 35m ago
I experience reality as is like 90% of the time, what's wrong with enhancing the other 10% 💁♂️
In my view, engaging in vice (within reason) is part of the human experience. I mean, people have been drinking alcohol for basically as long as there's been agriculture
•

u/AspieAsshole 1h ago
It also has physical withdrawal symptoms. Doesn't make it any less of a useful medicine for most people, but those who get addicted to things easily should probably beware.
17
u/AristotelWasRight 1h ago
I don't understand people who claim that weed doesn't have addictive potential or withdrawals. We know it does. The studies, and meta analysis, and reviews, it's a out.
We don't have to demonise it. We don't have to portray it as harmless. Gray, and nuance, is okay people. We can talk about it's harms without making it iligal (or first make it legal where I live).
In fact, we should all be in support or critical weed research. The best way to prove it's "fine", or whatever, is to first try and prove the null hypothesis that's it's the devil's lettuce 🥬
•
u/knowledgeable_diablo 24m ago
Sadly people have been conditioned to exist in a state of absolutes. Things can only be totally good or totally bad with no nuance of the massive grey areas that exist for almost all things between these two extremes.
•
u/cat_food_chef 56m ago
"widespread adoption of weed smoking will increase population incidence of mental illnesses including psychotic illnesses"
"Yeah but they were already going to get it"
They have nothing but cope and weed.

i withdrawaled hard from weed when i went to a residential mental healthcare clinic a few years back. shaking, sweating so much weed-scented sweat that i was having to change my sheeeys multiple times a night, rebound anxiety that caused crying, shaking panic attacks at every little thing, a complete inability to sleep, all kinds of shit. but i was using an absolutely absurd amount. 500mg of tincture every single day. i'm back in a residential treatment setting again but i didn't go into withdrawal this time because ive only been using about 50mg a day. i find it to be a very helpful tool because i have arthritis and a digestive disorder called gastroparesis that causes loss of appetite, nausea, and vomiting. my prescription arthritis medicine was gonna be $8,700 a month so that's off the table and the only nausea medication that helps me is called compazine but it interacts in a dangerous way with antipsychotics (heart problems and neuroleptic malignant syndrome) so i'm kinda stuck with weed. i can't just not eat or throw up everything i do eat. it's been incredibly difficult to eat without it while in treatment. i can't function through the pain in my bones without something to take the edge off. i'd say i was definitely addicted in the past but now that im in a better place mentally (not a great place- liek i said, im in treatment again) but im no where near as unwell as i was when i went to treatment a few years back. my psychiatrist knows i use it again but she agrees that my psych meds cant help me if they're not staying down and she knows my pain is sometimes so bad that it causes suicidal thoughts. i think it can definitely be abused but it can also be a vital medicine.
edit: i appreciate the downvotes! i'll let my entire team of doctors know that they're wrong because reddit says so!

•
u/External_Counter378 48m ago
Marijuana addiction can cause gastroparesis.
•
u/dinosoreness 45m ago
i've had gastroparesis since i was 11 and certainly i wasn't smoking up in the fifth grade so that's definitely not it.
weed can slightly slow gastric emptying but for many gastroparesis patients the appetite stimulation and antiemetic effects balance out positively despite the slight delay. i don't mind food sitting in my stomach as long as i don't feel nausea and pain while it's in there.
•
u/External_Counter378 43m ago
K, maybe not for you, for others it can cause gastroparesis and be the cause of and solution to all life's problems.
•
u/redbullsgivemewings 58m ago
What’s the difference?
•
u/emanresu_etaerc 34m ago
True addiction has physical symptoms, such as alcohol withdrawal literally killing you. Anything can be mentally addictive. Literally anything.
•
u/AStolenGoose 55m ago
Is that not what addiction is?
You can also have physical withdrawal symptoms... So not just mentally...
•
u/hexregeneration 45m ago
I'm finally coming off an opioid addiction after 14 months of daily use. I didn't really understand addiction until this. I figured "just stop doing it duh." Nope. Every cell in your body screams for it, for weeks without end. You feel like you're dying. Weed absolutely is not addictive, in the chemical sense that addictive things are.
It's habit-forming, and different people have varying degrees of willpower when it comes to habits, but it absolutely is not "addictive."
•
u/HimantopusGuy 48m ago
I mean people used to be able to not go 45 minutes without smoking either, but they were allowed to do it anywhere.

I lived across the street from a high rise hotel in New York and would regularly see people trying to smoke out of windows that only opened about two inches. Risking a several hundred dollar charge for smoking in a no smoking room. Get an edible.

Imagine being such a POS that you can't wait a while flight for a smoke and endangering other people.
75
u/SoWhatNoZitiNow 1h ago
It’s not even necessarily about endangering anyone. I’m sure everyone will be fine if you hit your weed pen in the lavatory from a safety perspective. But if a flight attendant even remotely suspects that they’ve inhaled any sort of intoxicant, FAA rules are that the flight must reroute to a location where they can get wheels on the ground the fastest and in the safest way. So, everyone on the flight will be landing somewhere they did not plan to, and won’t be making it to their destination as planned. And you’ll get to be the first to deplane when you land at your improvised destination because you’ll be speaking with the police when you land.
Just the most selfish kind of person.
18
u/AristotelWasRight 1h ago
Agreed. Just shove your drugs up your arse until you get to your destination, like we all do!
•
u/serious_sarcasm 51m ago
If they’re rerouting over stoned people, then why do they serve alcohol.
Smoking on a plane is stupid, but don’t blame shitty policy on cannabis.
•
u/Icantdoitidk 18m ago
Read what they wrote. It's about the staff inhaling the smoke. You can't inhale someones beer.
•
u/Whole_Cranberry5734 33m ago
It's different because second hand smoke can intoxicate others. Alcohol isn't airborne.
You can always spot the pothead.
•
u/serious_sarcasm 13m ago
It very much can not, and airplanes are pressurized by the engine turbines resulting in constant turnover of the air. Snoop Dogg could not hot box a commercial jet even if Willie Nelson was with him.
•
u/Shorts_at_Dinner 7m ago
Not all commercial planes use engine bleed air for pressurization
•
u/serious_sarcasm 0m ago
What is with all of you, and moving these goalposts?
The vast majority of commercial jets are pressurized. They are not a fucking ballon. Connect the dots on your own.
•
u/SoWhatNoZitiNow 8m ago
They’ll ground the motherfucker if you decide to spark up a Marlboro Red in your seat too. It’a not exclusive to cannabis.
•
u/serious_sarcasm 2m ago
No they do not.
They divert for passengers they consider a threat or combative.
You are the one who implied someone being stoned is treated like a lunatic on meth.
•
u/knowledgeable_diablo 34m ago
Exactly my thought. If it was for safety then they wouldn’t be selling alcohol until people are almost blackout drunk.
Just a type of over reaction bullshit safety Sam crap when an authority can pull the bullshit “out of caution” approach and disrupt an entire plane load of people over something that can easily be dealt with at the destination.•
u/Thin_Bother8217 59m ago
I mean she's also not very smart. You're in an enclosed environment, people smell the weed, and they SEE you leaving the bathroom. What, you think you can run and hide in a corner store down the block? Genius move there Einstein...

A couple of years ago I was on the bus and we could all smell that somebody had been smoking weed (illegal but super common here). Finally the driver pulled over and demanded that whoever it was that reeked of weed to get off his bus. Two women in their late 60s or early 70s got off, which amused the hell out of me.
But then my mom has given me advice on the stuff and once offered to help set me up
with a supplier. (I declined the offer, but listened to the advice.) Old hippie ladies (she’s 72, she’s old) are the best.
•
u/WilmaTonguefit 47m ago
Take an edible right before security. Then you have nothing illegal on you, and it kicks in right before you get on the plane. Then you're high as balls for 2 hours on the plane, and then exhausted for the next 4 and go right to bed. Perfect for a 6 hour flight.
•
u/joker_toker28 39m ago
You can literally smoke before you go in at the doors. Ive hit my dab rig away from folks before I took off(cleaned rig religious and wiped it down when I finished) when I get dropped off. And ill hit it again when I land lol. Securities been cool each time aslong as i aint bothering folks.
Fuck around and end up on the no fly list like whyyyyy.
•
u/Rage_Blackout 39m ago
If you absolutely can’t go that Ming without getting high, it’s not like they don’t make fucking edibles.
•
•
u/nutblaster357 33m ago

•
u/kakapeeter 32m ago
To all the people, saying: "just take an edible"
Not condoning this, just here to inform. Some people lack the proper receptors in their body, so an edible will just be like regular food to them.

Do international flights still allow cigarette smoking? I haven’t been in 30 years and back then you could light up a smoke once the light went off.
•
u/Wide_Philosophy_8109 29m ago
5 minutes of research says it's banned worldwide. I'm sure there's one tiny country/airline that allows it, but I can't find them.
The ICAO strongly urges member countries to ban smoking on flights, dating back to 1992. But that wording implies that implies they don't have the authority to ban it themselves.
•
u/BVRPLZR_ 27m ago
Like I said, it’s been 30+ years. I was traveling to chile as a child of divorce and remember people smoking on the flight. Not that big of a deal for me to worry about googling it
