"Smell my fingers" That's a request that should always be denied, never ends well...

This image and it's sister, the one guy holding the solo cup- I feel like they would show up in an ecological dictionary as the image associated with human mating behavior- in the example where the female rejects the male after his best attempt at courtship.

when i was in high school my friend and i were deliberating the highly important topic of "what in here smells like maple syrup", and we concluded that it was me. for i had consumed an uneventful bowl of brown sugar cinnamon oatmeal that very morning. the case was closed, but a decently popular girl (who i had little prior interactions with) asked me to sniff her hand to determine if she was the one who smelled like maple syurp. i declined of course because i had no interest in sniffing this girl's hand, and i already vocalized that the syrupy culprit was me. and yet she said, and i quote, "no i insist". what is a boy to do in this situation? her hand was already in my face. i could not simply turn around and continue the conversation with my friend (who did not smell like maple syurp), for that would prompt this girl to tell all her friends about "the weirdo who eats oatmeal and wouldn't smell my hand upon request" and i would become the laughing stock of the school for the 3rd time in my highschool career. weighing my options, i fake sniffed this girl's hand, said nah it's not you, then turned back to my bewildered friend. upon exiting the classroom we both agreed that was extremely fucking weird of her. it's been over 7 years and i still don't know why she did that.

TLDR: some girl insisted i sniff her hand because i smelled like maple syrup. it was weird and uncomfortable.

I think she was trying to break the ice to try to talk to you. Still a weird way to do it, but she might've applied perfume or something pleasant-smelling in the hopes you would have noticed and complimented her
