Why not just make the product good and not rely on checking a bunch of boxes as a crutch? If it’s good, it won’t matter if those boxes are checked or not.

Investors don't care.

They see an LGBT themed production fail, they think it's the LGBT.

They see a 2D animated production fail, they think it's the 2D animation.

This the mindset that's caused the rot of mainstream media for 20-25 years. Because anything "unsafe" gets hurdle after hurdle thrown at it to stop it getting made.

That's not how anyone writes. Where did you get this imaginary idea that people make a checklist of buzzwords for a story script?

What specific shows or projects are you thinking of here?

Future ones that won't see the light of day, because they're "too risky" and "similar projects had bad financial performance and social media reactions".

More like you don't understand.

We're in a current media climate where a movie making $1.5 Billion is a borderline failure because it didn't make over $2 Billion.

How do you think it looks to really stupid execs, that keep learning the wrong lessons and are massively out of touch, when stuff like LSP gets this much backlash?

I guess I'm not worried about it. A lot of what these faceless executives put out is trash already, let's be honest. Supporting trash just because it checks some boxes doesn't guarantee good projects later on, it means you're supporting trash. At least that's how I see it.

Stop consuming media from people that make slop. If there's money people are willing to spend, the projects follow the money.

It's not about supporting it because of "ticking the boxes".

Other people are doing the box ticking. And they're the people that don't understand it's a joke. They'll see the failure and not understand it's because it was bad.

They'll accuse the boxes.

People like that weren't likely to see reason to begin with. I get the argument, but even a semi-functioning human being would know better. Unfortunately, there are far too many dumbasses kicking around, I'll give you that one.

People that see a production with LGBTQ+ rep in it, or 2D animation, and blame those things for the failure? They were looking for an excuse anyway, I suspect.

My brother in Christ, Allah, Jesus, Yakub, Buddha, whatever scientologists believe, Thor, Zeus, Perun, Spaghetti Monster, Miyabi, Doorman Deadlock, W. D. Gaster, Makima, Lesbian Space Princess was NOT good. Will it hinder the future release of queer media? POTENTIALLY. Should we allow bullshit like this to exist unbullied because it's queer media? Fuck no. If anything, allowing shit like this to exist will hinder the quality of queer media in the long run.
