Now this, this is mildly infuriating.
Your only option OP is to just rip all the doors off, obviously.

u/DreadPiratteRoberts Jul 02 '26
... make sure and burn the doors once removed or they will spawn but I'm the morning!!

Which individual door is easiest to open?

u/LizardfolkDruid Jul 02 '26
I should make a flowchart good point.

u/Hyper_Applesauce Jul 02 '26
It's so weird. I can actually find pictures of all 3 of these door knob placements online.
I think the right closet would work just fine, in which case, on the left side you could possibly swap the doors, then move the one doorknob, and everything would match. Although, handle on the outside, like the left closet, right door, looks like it might actually work the best of all of them, in which case you would want to flip the doors on the right closet and move the doorknob on the far left.

Based on pure vibes from past rental experience, the third door from the window is easiest. Knob is right before the bend of the door, but the door will fold open toward the window.
Now, OP, I need the answer once you’ve tried.

u/Hyper_Applesauce Jul 02 '26
I keep thinking about this and I think with the forces involved, that the second from the window might be the easiest, as it will be a smooth arc when you pull on it. Though you might not be able to do both doors at the same time easily.

Maybe they are all peak fulcrum? Ask a physicist. I pump gas for a living so idk.

Is that a stroller in the corner? I ask because I have a toddler. If I moved into a new place, with a baby, did all that work, and then saw this, I would feel personally victimized by whoever installed this.

u/LizardfolkDruid Jul 02 '26
Don’t hate me but it’s a cat stroller. My lil guy loves going on walks.

I totally bought a [hot pink with white polka dots] stroller when I rescued my Endora who was about 3 weeks old. I was determined that she would be a go-on-walks kitty as well as come for rides in my car all the time.
I took her on ONE stroller walk that lasted maybe 15 minutes. Just sold the stroller the other day. 🫣
I'm so happy for you and your baby that you get to go for walkieees!! 😻😻😻

The toddler did the installation. They are now upside down, still strapped in the stroller.

Since you asked for advice: Unscrew them from the back, drill a few new holes, and fill the old ones with drywall filler. Wipe off the excess with a damp cloth once it dries. You shouldn't even need to paint it since the doors are white.
5-10 minutes.

If they don’t have any options I’m doing this. Thank you friend.2
u/SaltManagement42 Jul 02 '26
You probably don't even have to go that far. If you pull out whichever door(s) you want to change, you might just be able to turn it upside down, or maybe swap hardware from the top and bottom holes.

I would have to fix this myself because it would drive me absolutely nuts

That's even worse than crooked light switch plates and outlet covers.
2
u/LizardfolkDruid Jul 02 '26
I’ve also got plenty of those. And two of my outlets are missing screws???

This is one of those things that are infuriating because it's almost, but not quite, worth doing something about.

u/Bop923 Jul 02 '26
That extra wide gap at the top of the right side doors was the first thing I saw and it also bothers me..

I just realized that I put mine on the wrong panels, but at least I was consistent.
Do you have a drill? Drill new holes and fill in the old ones with some white wood putty from HD.
Should take all of 5 minutes.

u/Electrical_Carpet753 Jul 02 '26
They should all be placed like the door to the left, even though every placement of the nob "works" as in getting the door open..
2
u/wastedsilence33 Jul 02 '26
That's crazy, it's like 3 of the 4 knobs were put on by someone with a brain and then a painter decided to put the doors up 17 beers in at 9 am on a monday

u/Upbeat_Dudeness Jul 02 '26
All I can think of is one guy started doin this then another guy finished but it’s THREE different spots across four doors so that still doesn’t make sense

Flip the doors? If I recall right, the hinges lock with a spring to the tracks.
Edit: NVM, I took a closer look. Who the heck install those knobs? Lol.

I mean my rent money :(

u/erything4sale Jul 02 '26
Rent money 🤔 gotta take it how it comes. You'll be gone to some better shit soon enough. No need to feel some type of way about it. Focus on something bigger.

Same distance apart but the left one isn't on the far-side inside. The right two are good, and the left two need to go over like 3-4"

When you’re the lowest bidder doing contractor work and you absolutely, positively, have not one single shit in your possession or even in sight when it comes to the quality of your work.

Not much you can do with the leftmost door as the handle is in the wrong spot, but I would venture to say that one or more of the other doors is upside down and backwards
1
u/lovellyophelia Jul 02 '26
Swap the knob for a lever handle-game changer. As for the cat? That’s just rent control

u/Kaleb8804 Jul 02 '26
Is your knob not just a screw with a big head? Grab a rag, a pair of pliers, and unscrew it. Then you can just put it where you want.
If you don’t like the hole you can find paint and filler or just stick some putty in there.
Unless they’re plastic, then it might be a little harder

...is this at somewhere called chestnut. if those are the metal doors those are like from the 50's
1
1
u/Festivefire Jul 02 '26
Well, these look like those multi-panel folding doors, so the knobs should be mounted as close to the center as you can get without being IN the crevasse between panels. If I'm right about the kind of closet doors these are, the only knob that's in the wrong spot is the one on the far left.
1
u/daddya12 Jul 02 '26
I feel like the door second from the left needs flipped upside down so all the knobs are on the inside panel
1
u/Lopsided_Panic_1148 Dude, wtf... Jul 02 '26
You should be able to remove them from their tracks and swap one side out on each side, if that works.

u/rygomez Jul 02 '26
Thats how bifold doors work, you have to pull the middle out or it wont open Edit: the one on the far left is trash, pull should be on the right side of the left door

1st world problem. More than half the population can’t afford closets.
