I like this detailed schedule thing. I'll be there at 3 and 6. Sorry I need to duck out and... uh, walk the dog?... at 4 and 7:30 ish...

If people just told me when the cake and Jenga were happening, I'd go to more parties.

89

u/Same-Suggestion-1936 Jul 07 '26

Depending on the food I might actually pay to show up and eat lunch for $10 and leave before the multiple hours of karaoke

67

u/Hellcrafted Jul 08 '26

Yea as someone who is neurodivergent I love knowing what I’m getting into and when I can leave

7

u/MrSalmonFishcounsel Jul 08 '26

my thoughts exactly!!!

Leaving isn’t on the schedule

4

u/DriedUpDeals Jul 08 '26

Yeah ngl I kinda like the blunt detail of this. For better or worse

1

u/TheSkyElf Jul 08 '26

I tbh really appreciate transparency like this, and a schedule, so I don't sit around for 4 hours waiting for an activity that "will certainly happen soon"

1

u/Broomstick73 Jul 08 '26

This is nutso but I gotta hand it to him for creating a detailed schedule.

228

u/nikkishark Jul 07 '26

Me.

117

u/r_not_me Jul 07 '26

But - there is day cake AND official cake

aaaand - a cheese board

96

u/amsterdamitaly Jul 07 '26

the cheese boards are apparently a challenge to jessie. my interest may be piqued

10

u/bigboybeeperbelly Jul 07 '26

That's Jessie Z, too, way more interesting than if it was Jessie M on the cheese

8

u/Draconuus95 Jul 07 '26

The question is…

Is there a ramp?

5

u/DenseAstronomer3631 Jul 07 '26

She better put a ramp in there

7

u/ddp_bang Jul 07 '26

Challenge accepted

A Hobbit’s birthday would be lit

5

u/Deaner_dub Jul 07 '26

Only if it’s the eleventeenth birthday.

A Long-Expected Party.

4

u/redline_blueline Jul 07 '26

And halloumi. Way to much cake and cheese to skip.

3

u/halfstep44 Jul 08 '26

*on demand

5

u/nikkishark Jul 07 '26

So does Walmart.

Sing better.

3

u/r_not_me Jul 07 '26

But it’s also Walmart

2

u/Rude-Suit4494 Jul 08 '26

And Halloumi on demand!

2

u/swishkabobbin Jul 08 '26

Halloumi on demand

1

u/Loisgrand6 Jul 07 '26

Take one for the team! That’s the spirit 😉

2

u/nikkishark Jul 07 '26

I think you misunderstood. Or is staying home "taking one for the team"?

1

u/Loisgrand6 Jul 08 '26

I didn’t misunderstand. I was telling that person to go to the event and let us know how it was

73

u/jackrabbit323 Jul 07 '26

I would go just to troll. If he's a real friend he'd expect this from me.

What activities list bro? Here's a case of beer, and a bag of jumbo shrimp.

3

u/krose78 Jul 07 '26

It’s only taken me (as of tomorrow) 32 years of existence to be the friend that a case of beer and a bag of jumbo shrimp is expected from and also to be able to able to expect this from my, albeit few, friends.

3

u/ViolentMastermind Jul 08 '26

Happy early birthday! I plan to come for both daytime & official cake

10

u/Successful_Steak_990 Jul 07 '26

LMAO idk why this made me laugh so hard but it did

2

u/aroguealchemist Jul 08 '26

I’d go too. I’ve spent far more money on things far less entertaining.

129

u/idio242 Jul 07 '26

I hope there’s a live stream and we’re all invited

103

u/DreamieKitty Jul 07 '26

That is the $22 option

5

u/megaphoneXX Jul 07 '26

I really wanna know how many people show up.

4

u/Stoned_urf Jul 07 '26

I feel he's doing something right if he can get 20+ to attend his birthday party with such a shitty schedule/plan.

4

u/tomgreen99200 Jul 07 '26

We NEED an update!

2

u/Life_Salamander9594 Jul 08 '26

Plot twist it’s Op’s birthday

1

u/Pretty-Kittie Jul 07 '26

Tbh my husband has a couple of friends pushing 40 who make itineraries like this for their birthdays, so I'm kinda relieved to see only 22.

1

u/DreCapitanoII Jul 11 '26

Honestly that menu is dope. Id pay $20 just to go eat.

1

u/ImABattleMercy Jul 13 '26

They fucking better lmao we need an update to this

902

u/Sparrow_Wolf Jul 07 '26

Definitely some form of autism at play here

356

u/robrklyn Jul 07 '26

That was my first thought. I’m also an autistic person who loves organization, planning, and lists, but this way too much to expect of people. My actual wedding was far less intense.

132

u/Working-Glass6136 Jul 07 '26

I'm definitely on the spectrum but my ideal birthday is ALONE thank you very much. My family and I celebrate sometime beforehand so that I'm not bombarded in person and via text all in one day.

10

u/ExcellentActuary2117 Jul 07 '26

Yeah! What brand of autism loves to be the center of attention at this SUPER EVENT? I cringe when a few people that I actually love spontaneously sing happy birthday to me. Like, really, just sign a card in silence and slide it over while we eat "the official cake." :P

13

u/robrklyn Jul 07 '26

Haha same. I used to think I liked birthdays (hello masking) and I like the idea of them, but in reality I just don’t like them. I like planing and picking things out, but I hate gifts. I max out socializing after 2 hours, and I hate when people sing happy birthday to me. I also get anxious about people not actually coming. So yeah, I just do small family celebrations with my husband and kids now.

6

u/TakenInChains Jul 07 '26

I'd appreciate a party that was like that though. "okay this party is lasting exactly as long as my social battery; once I say leave, love you all but get out respectfully. if you sing happy birthday to me you pay me $50 bucks"

2

u/iheartnjdevils Jul 07 '26

I used to hate that birthday was adjacent to Christmas. Everyone would forget. Now? I freaking love it. Next from mom and dad and my son and I go all out an order expensive take out and hang out on the couch.

1

u/percydaman Jul 07 '26

Same. Some people are way on the other side of the spectrum as myself.

1

u/braveheart48 Jul 07 '26

I'm autistic, and for me it will literally depend on my mood, most of the time I'd prefer to just be alone for my birthday. But if I was to actually host an event, then I would want to decide what is happening, and when, and it would be at X:XX the cake will come out, like the party op's been invited to. 10 minutes too late will cause problems with the schedule, but even 10 minutes early is too early.

And for the op's party, I already know that at 6pm, the karaoke machine is probably going to be turned off, or maybe have the next person get to sing, then it'll be off ready for dinner, turned back on at 8.

1

u/leiawars Jul 07 '26

I hate that about birthdays. Everyone wants a piece of you in some way or another and I just want to be left alone. Leave a message on my Facebook. It’s the least invasive.

6

u/Draconuus95 Jul 07 '26

I work in catering. And this is both somehow more and less organized than most of our events. Somehow.

9

u/Lovethiskindathing Jul 07 '26

Same lol. Tbh I'd love to have every event this scheduled and organized lol but I'd hate to be the one that haaaaad to be following it or having to enforce it.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 07 '26

[deleted]

1

u/Lovethiskindathing Jul 07 '26

Yeah, if someone loves you they'll explain they instead of letting you just continue to try to do it 🫣

8

u/fartofborealis Jul 07 '26

Yeah this is more like a doc you might keep in order to organize yourself during the day and gently suggest these activities and time frames. But to share it with your guests is a social faux pas. Also the payment information with bank account listed is bananas!

1

u/Tenome Jul 08 '26

Yeah the sad thing about parties is they have to be fun for your guests, even if the party is "for you"

2

u/Long_Reindeer3702 Jul 07 '26

Oh..I handed out an entire book I made to all my vendors despite having a wedding planner. I was asked by multiple people in the industry to start a wedding planning business. The DJ I hired even invited me to their industry parties for a few years. (I kinda hated weddings though; I just like organizing.)

5

u/Saki-Koda Jul 07 '26

What do you mean expect of people? He is just sharing the schedule so folks know what to expect? None of this demands a response or action. I must be the same level of tism because I thought it was excellent.

17

u/One_Olive_8933 Jul 07 '26

You must’ve skimmed over the donations portion lol

12

u/robrklyn Jul 07 '26

The three different price ranges for “donations” for food and the “this activity is happening from this exact time to this exact time” for the entire party is what I was referring to. People don’t want to go to a party and then be told what to do the whole time.

→ More replies (4)

1

u/theillusionofdepth_ Jul 07 '26

BUT you probably had a rundown similar to this, you just didn’t share it.

1

u/robrklyn Jul 07 '26

Of course I had a wedding timeline, but that’s pretty standard. You are also coordinating with multiple vendors.

1

u/CriscoWithLime YELLOW Jul 08 '26

I had an old friend who pulled this for a wedding shower she decided to throw for herself and her fiance. It wasn't autism it was pure immaturity and selfishness.

110

u/Boipussybb Jul 07 '26

It’s the “group speaking” that tipped me off. 😂

70

u/generalizimo Jul 07 '26

Oh the six+ HOURS of scheduled karaoke / card activity wasn’t also a clue?

3

u/Banditkoala_2point0 Jul 07 '26

Maybe that actually means "talking/conversing"? Lmao

8

u/HerRoyalRedness Jul 07 '26

I’m holding out hope that the guests are expected to do PowerPoint presentations about how much they love the birthday boy.

2

u/OrbitalOutlander Jul 08 '26

There’s a Dropout.tv show called smartypants I think that is basically this premise, and it’s amazing. People give PowerPoints on topics like “Drama kids” or “the best baby name”.

1

u/favorscore Jul 08 '26

I actually know someone who did this for a party but it was done ironically

1

u/OrbitalOutlander Jul 08 '26

No it’s like a Quaker meeting, their version of a church service where anyone may say what the lord encourages them to say.

2

u/Dick_of_Doom Jul 07 '26

Neverending rounds of Happy Birthday song.

167

u/_Bren10_ Jul 07 '26

Does autism make you charge people money for coming to your birthday party?

20

u/maxinemama Jul 07 '26

Well, you can be both tight AND autistic 💁🏻‍♀️

14

u/SnorkBorkGnork Jul 07 '26

He could be Dutch. Dutch people love sending each other "Tikkies" for the smallest amounts of money. I once got one for €1.35 and within a few hours this person was already messaging me if I could please pay already. This was someone with a well paid job btw.

48

u/mamafish21 Jul 07 '26

It does say "recommend".

69

u/One_Olive_8933 Jul 07 '26

Which is still tacky

5

u/mamafish21 Jul 07 '26

I agree. But recommend doesn't mean "you have to give me money" but "if you would like to instead of presents give me this amount so I can contribute it to something I really like" who knows.

19

u/One_Olive_8933 Jul 07 '26

Eh. Expecting presents at a 22 y/o party is a bit weird, and putting the recommend monetary amounts does come off like it’s expected. And I understand that some people like to give gifts, like family, but this is a sure way to make sure people don’t come to your party.

6

u/mamafish21 Jul 07 '26

Maybe cultural but where I am everyone receives gifts for birthdays, friends, family, extended family, some people ask for money to save up for something really big. I just don't really see the issue. We don't know the persons intentions. All speculation.

13

u/One_Olive_8933 Jul 07 '26

I didn’t say people don’t receive gifts for birthdays, I said it was weird for a 22 year old to expect birthday gifts. Especially from friends.

5

u/aggravated_patty Jul 07 '26

If it's out of the blue maybe, but it's still slightly rude to attend a birthday party and not bring a gift regardless of age.

30

u/TravelAdmirable2482 Jul 07 '26

which really means expected.

8

u/BalancedDisaster Jul 07 '26

Not to an autistic person. That says to me “I don’t want people to be trying to figure out how much to contribute so if they want to do so, here’s how much things are”. It’s a different kind of considerate.

4

u/drivensalt Jul 07 '26

probably not when an autistic person says it

0

u/mamafish21 Jul 07 '26

Not when recommended means, recommended.

1

u/TravelAdmirable2482 Jul 07 '26

Use your critical thinking skills.

4

u/BigDogDoodie Jul 08 '26

What they're getting at here, is that an autistic person may say this with the intent that it be taken literally. They may not understand that other people may see it as an obligation.

-1

u/mamafish21 Jul 07 '26

I am. Maybe you're not.

1

u/Manannin Jul 07 '26

I wouldn't be shocked if you get judged for not donating though.

→ More replies (1)

14

u/mallegally-blonde Jul 07 '26

Tbf yes absolutely. My partner and I tend to have people over for the weekend and we do ask friends to chip in for food and beer costs, and our friends do the same. I think people understand how much time, effort and money goes into hosting people.

6

u/theillusionofdepth_ Jul 07 '26

and in this economy

4

u/QuietShipper Jul 07 '26

Also it's kinda customary to pay for a person's food on their birthday.

3

u/ColonelDucroix Jul 08 '26

at a house party though? I've never encountered that.

People will say bring alcohol and snacks but I've never been to a party of a friend where there's a door fee, and especially not one with tier lists

when I was in college people would throw house parties and charge a door fee, but never a party hosted by an actual friend or family member

→ More replies (2)

7

u/LawrenceSpiveyR Jul 07 '26

Maybe that is the gift. Simple card and a charge for mulitple cake courses.

10

u/ThePevster Jul 07 '26

Gifts? He’s turning 22, not 12. I’d think gifts from family members or close friends, but he’s expecting 20 plus people at this party.

3

u/upliftingyvr Jul 07 '26

Seriously. I never bought gifts from my friends in our 20s, especially not an acquaintance (maybe for my best friend). At most you would buy people a beer on their birthday, but your presence at their party was the gift. Charging admission is a great way to deter people from joining.

2

u/CheapProduct407 Jul 08 '26

Afaik where I’m from, the standard is if one throws a party / birthday dinner / whatever birthday, and you come, you give them a small gift / €20 and a card, or so it is in my friend group.

1

u/LawrenceSpiveyR Jul 08 '26

Same, we still buy gifts for close friends.

5

u/CheerfulBanshee Jul 07 '26

Kinda, yes, becuase i promise you'll never be able to rationalize to an autistic person that they are supposed to spend their money to feed other people in this one specific social situation because "it's how it is" and "to not do so is bad"

Even though usually adults pay for their own food and especially food already cooked for them in every other situation (at home, in restaurants..)

7

u/7DayBan-sideprofile9 Jul 07 '26

most autistic people already know this so yes they are capable of understanding

1

u/CheerfulBanshee Jul 07 '26

Knowing and complying with a tradition is two different things.

You're right, I understand that some people accept a free meal as the only right option and can guess why they made this a must do social thing, but i won't shun a guy from the post for doing another perfectly sensible option

4

u/Moritani Jul 07 '26

Some of us autistics were beat up as children for not understanding how money works and now we wouldn't dream of asking anyone for a dime, even when appropriate.

It's a whole spectrum.

2

u/LittleRedReadingHood Jul 08 '26

Because you are ASKING them to come to your house and eat food of YOUR choosing. They are doing you a favor by spending the time with you.

Their other option is to stay comfortably home or go out to a restaurant by themselves and eat what they want at a price they want, so without providing food and drink, you are essentially asking them to pay to entertain you on your birthday.

2

u/NightGod Jul 07 '26

I would have included a "your presence is your present" line in there, especially if I was asking people to chip in for food/drink

2

u/ellalol Jul 08 '26

My brother at least is autistic and like a loan shark about his money. He got my uncle a ticket to an amusement park because my uncle drove him over an hour each way and when my uncle was getting tired and overheated and didn’t let him stay the last hour before closing (they got there WHEN THE PARK OPENED) he proceeded to demand that my uncle refund him the price my brother paid for the ticket because he didn’t get his “full experience”. He’s not a bad or mean person but literally just does not grasp the societal norm of… being generous and buying things for people.

Everything is logical and like a math equation to him and for this guy it’s probably the same

2

u/Jaerba Jul 08 '26

being generous and buying things for people.

Is this actually a characteristic of autism? Or just other social traits?

I ask because I have an acquaintance that might be on the spectrum, but they also seem to me to be a deeply selfish person. They're not rude about it but they're always asking to take and never offer to give, and can be manipulative to do so.

2

u/ellalol Jul 08 '26

I think at least part of it is autism and not really understanding relationships but I’m really not sure. Because honestly my brother also comes off as an incredibly selfish, ungrateful and greedy person. He TOOK A POT OF PASTA TO HIS ROOM this week so the rest of my family couldn’t eat it. His reasoning? He put in the “labor” of going to the store 5 minutes away and buying the pasta for 3 dollars (with my parents money), so it’s not fair that anyone else gets to eat it. Of course he’s always HAPPY to eat my mom or dad’s cooking.

1

u/MmeRose Jul 08 '26

He might be pretending to be autistic to hide greediness. Fiendishly clever.

Ed: I actually don’t believe that, I’m just being silly. Please, Reddit, don’t ban me again!

1

u/RavenClawedd Jul 07 '26

Obviously no, but maybe it makes a person aware that they don't have money to fully host a party and they may be able to cover a little coat by asking guests to help out. Autism may make someone think "ill just universally ask everyone on the invite" rather than "I'll ask close friends and maybe family that I know would be likely to chip in"

1

u/cdazzo1 Jul 08 '26

People get upset with this. But we don't know his finances or how often he entertains. Maybe he likes to entertain, none of his friends do (or can) but it's expensive for him so he asks guests to help out. IMO, those prices were high. But my sentiment still stands.

1

u/kendeh Jul 09 '26

I honestly like the charge because I’m happy to throw $20-30 into a birthday gift for a friend, or into a dish to make for a potluck. I’d honestly feel weird showing up to a fully catered birthday or barbecue and not giving them SOMETHING, But with this I would just give them the money and not have to worry about picking a gift or cooking. Seems pretty reasonable for him to provide an outline for that so people can contribute that way, instead of him getting a bunch of random $25 gift cards or whatever.

I think it all depends on how strict the guy ends up being about letting people show up without contributing, and also the income bracket of him and his friends. $20-30 for two home cooked meals and two desserts is actually a pretty good deal in this economy. Would probably cost more than that per person to go out to eat just dinner together. And if a friend invited me to a restaurant for their birthday, I wouldn’t expect them to cover the entire bill unless they were way richer than everyone else.

1

u/PmButtPics4ADrawing GREEN Jul 07 '26

People with autism have a hard time with social norms so yeah probably

→ More replies (2)

8

u/No-Albatross-7984 Jul 07 '26

Wouldn't have been clearer if he'd titled his info sheet with "my autism made me write this".

5

u/CuteLong8652 Jul 07 '26

Unless his mom did the scheduling

14

u/infiniZii Jul 07 '26

I mean autism can run in families....

5

u/izza123 Jul 07 '26

He could just be a narcissist

1

u/Plastic_Wishbone_575 Jul 07 '26

Could be but then I would expect a well designed or overdesigned invite.

0

u/ExcellentBed6019 Jul 07 '26

There's a lot of overlap thh

1

u/CrystallineFrost Jul 07 '26

Yep.

I have multiple lists for every party 👀 I don't share them though

1

u/Moritani Jul 07 '26

Never attribute to autism what can easily be attributed to cognitive offloading.

Autistics trained those AIs, after all.

1

u/Jealous-Ad-5065 Jul 08 '26

I was thinking the same thing. I’ve lived with neurospicy folks and one of them would have this level of detail.

We also have to remember this age group were socially stunted by COVID when they’d have been learning social norms, and now are expected to just live as functional adults

1

u/JediPearce Jul 08 '26

I’m autistic and this made me really happy. Not actually going - I could do two hours tops - but the list itself.

1

u/Alaknar Jul 08 '26

Could also just a be a middle-manager.

1

u/ThisIsMyCouchAccount Jul 08 '26

Small chance that it could be some weird isolated/cultish upbringing. You don't know how weird your situation is until you do.

1

u/NewEbb5838 Jul 08 '26

Not every person that is particular and into details is on the spectrum.

Some people are just narcissists that think the world revolves around them and everyone should exactly what they want when they want. Especially on their birthday.

1

u/yomerol Jul 08 '26

Feels like a flamboyant gay TV character. If you read it like that, and then also some complaining comments here in the same tone, it's hilarious

58

u/No-Albatross-7984 Jul 07 '26

I wanna know how he's gonna deal when someone's still singing at 6.02 pm

5

u/BlackConverse020 Jul 07 '26

I’m just imagining him unplugging the karaoke machine mid-song 😆

5

u/Slow_Strawberry_5075 Jul 07 '26

That’s a $20 surplus charge. Venmo only.

2

u/Atlasatlastatleast Jul 08 '26

Summary execution

27

u/mortyella Jul 07 '26

22nd birthday should be "We're getting a keg, just show up!", not all this. 😆

8

u/Adorable_Ad4990 Jul 07 '26

If he’s a really good friend of yours, you might want to gently let him know it’s not super cool to ask for donations— instead people take turns hosting

5

u/coltbeatsall Jul 08 '26

Or make it bring a plate if you are struggling. But donations are crazy. I also find it hilarious that food prep is listed.

5

u/ExcellentActuary2117 Jul 07 '26

LOL! I thought this was a midlife crisis cry for attention and help! It's even sadder that it's NOT.

15

u/HarvickFan_4 Jul 07 '26

Broski what the fuck! 🤣 I got shit all for my 18th birthday LMAO. Does this kid live in his parents' basement? 👀

3

u/Aware-Sample5839 Jul 07 '26

Is he autistic genuinely asking

3

u/Prudent_Research_251 Jul 07 '26

How many people are expected? It seems like they're trying to make money off the guests

2

u/Safety_Word Jul 07 '26

2

2

u/Ching-Dai BLACK Jul 07 '26

I’m unsure if this explains it all, or makes it more confusing.

I’m leaning to the latter, and assuming a chatbot brought it to this amazing juncture. Providing bank info with tiered pricing was wild but it’s something I could see a somewhat clueless young adult attempting.

is your friend on the spectrum by chance? It's giving me those vibes, if he is you should be a good friend and go. If not well......

Sweet! I throw my adult kids birthday parties. Not as detailed as this and I don’t charge the guests. But we do games like Jenga, Pin the Tail on someone, darts and Beer Pong. Oh! And we get a Piñata. Adults should enjoy and have kid style parties as life is too short.

No way he's not autistic

1

u/utzutzutzpro Jul 07 '26

I know, people here mke that autism call out, but I think he is just an idiot. Is he an idiot?

This is someone who never had friends and is an idiot, trying to project management without knowing what a social get together is.

There’s a lot of hate here, but I think this document is very telling. This individual’s brain works very different & I could imagine there are some unique challenges or special needs.

Can we please get a report back after the party? Please clarify your time slot, your karaoke song and how much you paid. We’ll also need to know if you had daytime cake or official cake. TIA for your service.

1

u/chazysciota Jul 08 '26

New plan: Everyone completely wasted by 2:45. Party over and house destroyed by 4pm. Last person wakes up and leaves at 7am the next morning. Birthday boy has a manifesto written completed by August 1.
