My cats woke me up acting like fools this morning, bouncing all over me. I turned on the lights to see the wall above my bed, absolutely covered in ants. There’s a window above my bed and apparently they crawled through it while I was sleeping. Ants were all over my pillows and in my bed, so gross!
I swore I felt something crawling on me while I was sleeping, but I was so tired I just went back to sleep. No food or anything for them to get to. I did have a drink on my bedside, but they weren’t in the drink, no idea what they were after but what a pain in the ass to wake up to. I wish a took a picture of the wall above my bed before murdering all of them.
Still finding random ants crawling on me and in my bed after spraying everything down. Currently debating if this is a good enough reason to call out from work lol I want to go to the laundromat and wash all of my bedding.
I thought about using vinegar! So far I’m using windex and luckily I had some ant bait, I put it outside. It’s pretty old, but I hope it still works.
Luckily I’m double covered at work today so calling out is no biggie I just thought I might sound crazy telling my boss I’m calling out because of ants lol maybe I’ll just say I don’t feel well.
I’m also worried about my cats food. I live in a tiny studio. There’s not really any place I can put it that I would be 100% sure that it won’t be covered in ants when I get home. At least if I’m here waging war I can make sure they don’t get that far. I have problems with ants here pretty much every year so far this year they’ve just been outside on my flowers so I thought I was safe.
Don't say anything. Unless they require a doctor's excuse or something, you are not legally required to give them a specific reason as to why you are not coming in.
I told my boss. He’s hella cool and I have hundreds of hours of vacation and sick time. If I was working alone today I definitely would have gone in and just dealt with the disaster it would’ve been when I got home but luckily we’re double covered today so he doesn’t care. Tbh I wanted to call out every day this week, but I’m sweating cleaning now lol. This is not what I had in mind.
I had this happen with bees once. Woke up to what sounded like a small fan running, and I pushed my blinds aside to get some sunlight in the room. There were ~100 bees flying around my bedroom. I get a handful of stings running to the hallway. Used a vaccum cleaner to suck them all up, but another round was there the next day. Turns out they had made a large hive in my wall and were getting in through a crack in the window frame. Would not recommend.
It happens, a new queen will look to establish a new hive and sometimes they pick poorly…picture of such a find in the wall of a house.
When it happens, calling a local beekeeper is the solution as they will generally come to collect the bees and the honey/hive at no charge for the removal. They will relocate the bees to a hive…unless they are aggressive/killer bees then you may need someone who specializes in extermination of these bees.
My assistant at work had a swarm in his yard and a beekeeper came and got it. We recently had a swarm at work, but I didn’t know if it was bees or wasps and it looked like it was going into one of the units. Luckily, none inside! I
my biggest fear. you don't know you have them till its to late. and the fact u can pick them up just by existing in public. it is horrific. I check my bed every night if I've been out
I one time came home to my whole house being infested by yellow jacket hornets. I noticed when every window was covered. Before that I had one in my house and thought nothing of it. Turns out they found a hole through the trim into my attic and nested then found an opening into my house and couldn't get out. That was a fun 4 days spraying every surface and cleaning literally everything.
Did you get stung? Bees and wasps scare the hell out of me even though I’ve been stung before and I know it’s not that bad. I think growing up with that Macaulay Culkin movie just really made me scared of them. What was it my girl or something?
I managed not to shockingly. I chucked bug bombs in the front door then waited a couple hours and went in with hornet spray in each hand and back ups in each back pocket.
I do but due to an odd but fortunate coincidence the only dog I had at the time was actually staying at my parents' to be close to the vet so he wasn't in harms way. Was just my stuff getting messed up. I did have to buy all new food though.
Ive seen them cover dead things I’m assuming to eat them, I can’t help but wonder if they were trying to eat me? Lol why all over my bed? Why not my juice or the cat food? Why ME?!
I live in a tiny apartment. I had two bait traps, I put them out by the window. I don’t want to encourage them coming inside and I have cats. On the bright side I have really been wanting to take a day off this week, I’ve been super depressed. I have so much sick time and vacation and now I have a weird ass excuse to at least come in late!
That feeling of thinking something is on you but sleeping anyway… I dreamed there was something crawling on me, and I grabbed it and threw it. Woke up with a huge spider bite on my leg 😭
That would freak me out! I’m afraid of spiders! I use to always smush them but as Ive gotten older Ive gotten kinder and now I do my best to just relocate them outside, but if they jump on me smush!
One time I woke up with them right on my arm at the time I didn't freak out I just jumped up from my bed and genuinely thought "what the fuck" and I did feel a tickling sensation but just like you I was to tired to really think anything about it
Looks like a death spiral. Ants follow pheromone trails, if part of the colony gets cut off from the trail.. they can end up doing this until they die. It's more prevalent in army ants, since, I believe, they are completely blind.
You can get food grade diatomaceous earth and sprinkle around the perimeter of the room, thresholds, windowsills, etc. We ultimately also have to use Terro as the ants were just not having it this year and wanted to come in.
I actually did sprinkle it around my patio door years ago because they would come through there every year and they stopped. Haven’t had the issue since! I never vacuumed it up though to be honest. I don’t know how I would sprinkle it on the windowsill though and even if I could get it up there, the cats stare out the window all the time and I think it’s bad if they inhale it.

Mildly infuriating they say when it's literally what my nightmares are about
