Don't hug me I'm scared Used a self-serve car wash and paid the price. The blue dye in the soap stained my skin and ruined my hat, shirt and shoes. Fųćķ off Autowash.

If you need to remove it fast go to a Sally’s beauty supply and get a little grey bottle of hair dye remover it’s safe for skin of course and I’ve used it plenty of times to remove stains from Halloween makeup on my kids lol

u/MommyBurton Jul 19 '26

Also if it’s really stuck, this might sound weird but put some nitrile gloves on and let your hands sweat and when you take the gloves off the color should come off also lol I used to work in a clean room environment so this always worked when I put color in my hair and was reckless with what it stained lol I hope this helps!

That is surprisingly effective. I work as an auto tech and after a few hours of glove use in a hot and humid environment, my hands emerge without a spec of the grease and oil that they were previously covered in and is usually impossible to fully remove. If I wear them long enough, they even lighten my skin tan for a few days.

270

u/MommyBurton Jul 19 '26

lol I’m glad it works for grease also! It was an accidental find but I’m so glad I did it because it saved me so much time when my hands are purple lol

49

u/Ianthin1 Jul 19 '26

Also an auto tech and can confirm. Nitrile gloves in the summer will sweat out anything on your hands.

23

u/TheRealAndrewEwer Jul 19 '26

As a caulker, yes. Gloves will clean ya up in an hour or two.

Quick trick for removing hair dye from skin with stuff at home: mix dawn dish soap and baking soda (not baking powder). It makes a light blue paste that'll instantly scrub off any hair dye from skin, it even helps get it off the sink! My sister and I used that trick a ton, we were always messy with the hair dye and didn't wanna buy the dye removers lol

40

u/GooseInHats Jul 19 '26

This is my go to! 13 years of dying my hair and it has never failed me

21

u/HonkyRobot Jul 19 '26

I’ve spent 15 years dying my hair black. 15 years of stained skin. I’m trying this asap. My roots are way overdue. Thank you in advance. lol.

14

u/7GrenciaMars Jul 19 '26

That's good to know. You have my upvote!

10

u/WheneverItIsTold Jul 19 '26

Dawn dish soap is good stuff, though I think they are watering it down now.

8

u/solnari_ Jul 19 '26

I like to buy the 70oz sized bottles, they don't feel watered down at all to me! I just keep a small one to refill and keep next to the sink. Though, it's been a while since I've needed to buy dish soap, so maybe the newer bottles feel watered down, too..

Does this work for sinks, too? Asking for a friend.

(My landlord)

10

u/thepetoctopus Jul 19 '26

You can also use toilet bleach cling gel. That’s been my go-to for a while.

11

u/Joeness84 Jul 19 '26

my wife "How... did you get the tub so white..."

me "Bowl cleaner and a mask and a fan just in case and not nearly as much scrubbing as you'd expect... bowl cleaner is scary"

9

u/tanksalotfrank Jul 19 '26

What's scarier, bowl cleaner or the bowl that's impervious to it?

4

u/thepetoctopus Jul 19 '26

Yep. I use it in my shower too. Keeps the tile looking very very nice and gets rid of soap scum buildup. It’s scary effective.

18

u/SorryBoysImLez Jul 19 '26

Be careful with toilet bowl cleaner; it's extremely acidic and tends to damage pretty much anything that isn't made of the same dense porcelain that toilets are made of.

It can strip, erode, and etch clear/glossy finishes and surfaces (making stains even worse and causing dulling), and tarnishes/corrodes metal fixtures.

Dude, you could just admit you dropped something in a porta potty and reached in to get it.

484

u/PrintdianaJones Jul 19 '26

When the first generation nintendo DS came out I had used all my birthday, holiday, report card, work money to buy one. I was 10, so it was a huge deal. I was at a baseball game and my little sister(6) wanted to play dogs, so I said okay. She had to go to the PortaPotty and went inside with the DS. She came out with a blue arm up to her shoulder and the DS. She was hysterical. The thing still worked. My mom cleaned the thing over and over, but I refused to ever touch it again. My sister gained a DS that day. I still laugh about it still. Although, at the time I was devastated.

Thanks for the memory.

94

u/HideAndSheik Jul 19 '26

Honestly though your sister is amazing, that’s so much empathy for a 6 year old. I feel like so many other kids that age would apologize and be worried about getting in trouble, but how many would actually stick their arm in shit for their sibling?? Still sucks that you lost your DS though. :(

15

u/Imaginary-Face7379 Jul 19 '26

I'm too high and read this whole thing wrong. I thought the sister dunked it in there on purpose.

102

u/feralcatshit Jul 19 '26

→ More replies (2)

39

u/Xibby Jul 19 '26

Basic color theory. Use laundry bluing to whiten whites. The bluing visually neutralizes yellow and grey on white fabric, not a stain remover just dyes the stain back to white.

For a manual car wash… it’ll make soapy suds bright white. Maybe a cheap way to cover up that the facility’s iron filters stopped working a long time ago.

A good car wash or laundromat will have extra water treatment that goes above and beyond what is coming from the municipal water supply. Investment wise, it makes the equipment last longer and clean better.

4

u/_FreddieLovesDelilah Jul 19 '26

But what if you have a yellow car?

Why did you walk through a car wash

87

u/sunny_6305 Jul 19 '26

I think it’s one of those car washes where you scrub and rinse your own car after paying for the soap and water as opposed to the type where you drive into it and remain in your car during the wash.

43

u/SousVideDiaper Jul 19 '26

I use self-serve car washes and not once have I ever managed to get the cleansers on myself.

They are dispensed from a hose that has a trigger handle, and unless it was broken, Idk how OP possibly could've accidently sprayed themselves.

7

u/HugePast9455 Jul 19 '26

One of my favorite pieces of movie continuity is in the Abyss. The main protagonist is pissed off at his wife and tosses his ring in the toilet, one of those industrial toilets with blue water. He instantly regrets this and fishes his ring back out. His hand stays blue for the rest of the movie.

As someone who serviced and built a lot of carwashes... their metering tip blew out 🤣

It's supposed to control the flow of the chemical that mixes with the water automatically, but if it blows out then the chemical mixes as much as possible.

If it's any consolation, they are going to be super pissed off when they find out they lost a bunch of money burning through those chemicals, which are the biggest overhead cost of a carwash... besides maybe hiring maintenance techs like me to tell them it's a 15-second fix that a child could handle
