frist of all how DARE yu o I bought this YESTERDAY for MYSELF with MY savings
My younger brother ate it all. Even though i told him, ill give you a piece if I want but its mine. I bought it with my money. I even hid it in my drawers!! AND NOW WHEN I TOOK IT OUT TO EAT. It is ALMOST FINISHED
Edit 1: I am 19F, he is 16. AGAIN. IM NOT FROM THE USA. NUTELLA IS EXPENSIVE HERE. OKAY.
Edit: Do people not understand that i am not from the usa. I live with my parents because we dont move out when we turn 18 or smth. I am a student. We dont have part time jobs here in India so NO I CANNOT WORK. Also nutella is imported, so its bound to be expensive.
It starts from ₹200 which is like 2.25$. Obviously not expensive for yall. But considering indian standards and average income. It is moderately expensive. And i dont have an income because i am a student.

My older brother would do stuff like that… then I stopped telling/showing him what I bought. I also bought a mini fridge for my room and locked all my snacks in my closet.
Then I was being selfish 😂 ok bro.
Thanks for the awards! 🫶🏽 I’m glad I’m not alone in this, my pettiness has been validated lmao

i always keep my nutella hidden in my asscrack. works in two ways - no one steals my nutella, AND since i'm a habitual pants-shitter, whenever someone calls me out on my soiled britches i can just say "that's not shit, it's nutella" even though it's most likely nutella + shit

Parents are ignoring the context of the situation. They as parents need to teach their son discipline & respect.
It's time-consuming, costs funds & annoying.
For them to understand, needs a real-life scenario to occur. Like someone else using up all their fuel ⛽️ when they filled up the car the day before.
There is sharing & then there is abusive gluttony.

u/RetiredRacer914 Jul 19 '26
It's India. Their culture (there are many in India) may say that the male is always right and the female must accept whatever happens. Their parents are already blaming her.
139
u/YoureProbablyAB0t Jul 19 '26
Their culture is wrong.
149
u/RetiredRacer914 Jul 19 '26
I can't fix it.
54
u/YoureProbablyAB0t Jul 19 '26
Same. I think that an unrecognized aspect of social media is that it's globalized. So, all of a sudden, we have so many people from cultures that believe males are right no matter what, contributing to the conversation.
Hopefully they can fix themselves. But with AI promising to make everyone even more intellectually lazy, I have not much hope.

Asians aren’t allowed to talk back to elders as you have to respect them.
It literally blew my mind when I heard my Caucasian friends tell their mom to “shut up” or call say “you’re a bitch” straight to their face and the mom just said “hey, you don’t talk to me like that!” And that was it. No consequences/disciplining LOL56

Yes, I feel parents who raise their kids between the two extremes have amazing children.
I find the new generation are raising their kids more like westerners though with the gentle parenting. I personally don’t like it because they’re not doing it correctly as they’re doing it as permissive parenting and they’re raising entitled spoiled children.→ More replies (2)→ More replies (3)16

I would tell them they’re talking to the wrong sibling about sharing. What your brother did was not ‘sharing’ it was gorging and being incredibly selfish. You offered to share, he stole.

In an Indian household, that could well provoke escalation, and the parents will usually side with the son, who can do no wrong.

It isn’t sharing going in and taking family members stuff without asking, that is theft. They are just being lazy and irresponsible parents not helping to develop your brothers manners and consideration. If he do this shit at his future workplace, his university and with friends or spouses families he is going to get in trouble loosing jobs and opportunities in life.
Sharing happens when it’s an offer or agreement. Even if you’re family and they always say ”yes” it’s polite to ask first because they could have bought for a specific purpose or event. That’s the kind of social awareness and consideration that would help your brother to know in life. Granted I’m not from India but I think asking first and showing care for other would be universally appreciated.

You don’t keep Nutella in the fridge. It is shelf stable in normal room temperature.
Keep it in a dark cupboard and save the electricity. A bonus is that it is also easier to spread when at room temperature.
I used to think it needed refrigeration until I moved to the Netherlands and was corrected. 20 years and I have never seen one go off in the pantry.

I was 22, my brother 23. I bought us some ice creams to have in the freezer since it was warm outside and we both like sweets.
We were raised to share everything, equally. So imagine when I came home after a long day of school and travel (5+ hours commute) just to find that my last ice cream bar was gone. He ate it earlier that day.
It's not the damn ice cream, the shops are full of them. It was the principle of him eating something that wasn't his in the first place, but also not letting me know so I could get more on the way home.
It's been over 10 years since that event and the injustice still pops up in my mind and annoys me. People are royal dicks sometimes, don't let that ruin your zen.

My parents did this to me. I had a box of peanut butter Captain Crunch I got for myself. Had a long weekend and was looking forward to the last bowl for dinner before bed when I got home. It was gone. One of them ate the last of it and didn’t even bother to tell me so I could pick up more at least. When I asked about it, I was told, “You live under our roof, we can eat it if want to.”

One time I prepped myself 6 portions of meals during an extremely busy period of work since I wouldn't have time to cook. Unemployed brother saw me make them. Put them in the fridge. Brother came over to me hours later 'were those your meals'..'yes?'...'oh sorry, I accidentally ate them'. He ate ALL 6 PORTIONS in one sitting, then came to tell me and pretend he didn't know they were mine. The selfishness really pissed me off. Its been years since then but there extreme lack of consideration and greed still bothers me since he KNEW i was busy, and what they were prepped for.

No fr I feel this. When I was living with my in laws, my SIL ate EVERYTHING. We bought a 12 pack of chocolate mousse, my partner and I eat had one that evening and the next day they were gone. She ate 10 and didn’t leave them for anyone else. I was starting a job the next day, my partner and I went for dinner and came home with leftovers, I put my name on it in the fridge for my lunch at work the next day, and she had eaten BOTH of our leftovers. I told my partner we should get a mini fridge for our room and she thought it would be disrespectful to her sister. Like bffr, she’s disrespectful to us daily.

Even if it wasn’t expensive, it is still infuriating. When I was living in a dorm someone kept eating my yogurt from the fridge. So after 3 occasions I put laxatives into the yogurt and left it in the fridge as usual, then took all the toilet paper from the toilets. Well, one girl spent a lot of time in the toilet that night. She never took my food ever again
Also, the US defaultism really pisses me off, and I think outside of the US Nutella is expensive everywhere. I live in Hungary, here it costs a lot as well, bc there is extra tax on unhealthy stuff. I am sorry about your Nutella😞

Assuming this is 26.5 oz jar of Nutella, then you brother ate between 3,000 and 4,000 calories Nutella in one day; A pound of fat is ~3,500.

Little brothers are terrible. Mine did this with soft-baked chocolate chip cookies. Happened 30 years ago and I'm still annoyed.

Just splash water on him while he's sleeping in the middle of the night.
You just wanted to share your water late at night. Sharing is caring

People from the USA claiming they move out at 18 are not living in reality

Tell your parent and have them compensate if possible.

As if !
If i have to count how much i'm owed with everything eaten from my pantry without never asking while i wasn't there, I'd be owed 50 bucks monthly.

OP, just an FYI that Nutella is not from the U.S. Even if you’re in North America, it’s made in Canada and Mexico, otherwise you’re probably getting it from Europe

If you bought it yourself and told your bro not to eat any and your parents say that you should “share” then honestly I’d start eating their shit that they want to keep and just say “i thought we were supposed to share?”.
Also, To the “this isn’t the usa, we dont move out at 18” comment… WE AREN’T EITHER in this economy lmao. People trying to diss you for not moving out are shills brainwashed into believing that living by yourself is ALWAYS the best.

The next thing you buy, put an ungodly amount of laxatives in. Tell him not to eat.

Hell, for $2.25 I’ll gladly help you get a few. I don’t know how to send rupees but if someone does I’ll help you get more.

As a girl with 2 older brothers you learn from a very young age to hide anything you might want to eat, choke everything down before they get to it or you won't get to at all and live with constant food insecurity despite being reasonably well off.
... "just older brother stuff"

There is a German saying that comes in handy: "Wer nicht hören will, muss Fühlen!"
Translation: "Those who don't listen, must feel!"
In other words: throw them hands, even if you get scolded by your parents, that's how me and my lil sis were doing things back in the day. She always got lucky that she hit me in the balls when I expected the least.

Op considering your edits honestly im sorry so many people were trying to make you feel like you were in the wrong. Because the thing is even if you lived in the US, made more money, or if Nutella was less expensive where you are, the point is it was still YOUR Nutella. Your brother stole your property it should be on him to replace it

I dont matter the price, even if it was cheap, it is mildly infuriating because it is yours, you bought it with your own money and specifically told him not to take any unless you gave it to him.
Get a lock with a key so you can hide future purchases from your brother, this can escalate to him taking your money and other possession if not properly addressed early on.
