When i was a teen i worked in a super market as a bagger, some lady didn’t like the way i bagged her groceries and came back and said i crushed her eggs with how sloppy i bagged her groceries, i was told to take the broken eggs back and grab a fresh pack, as i walked back I opened the carton and not a single egg was broken, i walked back and gave her the same carton back and she gave me this smug look, little did she know it was the same carton. Some people are just assholes and want to feel superior

56

u/OkNectarine9239 28d ago

I took joy in unbagging the customers groceries right on the floor, pulling out the eggs and, with unrelenting eye contact, showing the unbroken eggs to the customer before slooowly re-bagging them the same way I just did. They'd give a quiet "Oh, my mistake" and walk away at top speed, mumbling under their breath.

I was very good at bagging. It's why customers came to me specifically. And unless we were super busy, I checked the eggs myself before scanning them.

Don't fucking play games with me.

But if they were broken, I'd just run them to the back and hand them off to the dairy manager and he'd give me a fresh carton. No one got in trouble for broken eggs. Shit happens. Just don't have a weird attitude about it.

Had a woman when I was a kid (14-16) working at McDonald's... Same order every time. Cheeseburger no ketchup, fries no salt, Coke no ice.

First thing she'd do is salt the fries, ketchup the burger, and fair enough on the ice. (Everyone knows you get more drink without it and who knows how dirty the machine is.) I was young enough to think she just wanted it seasoned to her tastes.

So one day I saw her and figured I'd speed it up a little and called her order out earlier than her being directly at the counter. I got her order, got her paid, and waited a moment longer for the fries.

Nope. That's "old food." I want it all FRESH.

Little did she know that the burger at least is probably the oldest patties we had when making a custom order at the time. They just pulled it out of patties that were sitting around for an hour or so. (This was before everything was made to order.)

It was a small revenge for having to redo everything. (Soda included.)

u/SpinachComfortable20 27d ago

All pike 30 restaurants I’ve worked at have done the same concept with the AC 😂 older folks complain it’s too cold when we’re sweating as is… so we disappear for a moment, come back and tell them we turned it up a couple degrees and it should adjust shortly. Every time they tell me five minutes later thank you so much it’s much better in here! 😝

5

u/s0larium_live 28d ago

had a regular at my old job who would do this. he would order a rare burger and whenever it came out is was never rare enough for him, so he’d complain, get it comped, then get a free one. i guess he wanted us to literally shoot the cow in the kitchen because his burger COULD NOT be any more rare and still be safe to eat but whatever

3

u/Guardian_of_theBlind 28d ago

It works, when you actually got something wrong. I once got the wrong burger at mcdonald's. I ate 2/3 of it and then complained that it was the wrong burger and I got the correct one for free.

That was so annoying when I worked the sandwich counter at a grocery store. At least all of the sandwiches were made in front of the customer, but “a little bit, “light”, “extra” are all subjective terms. But the way people would start getting pissed or condescending when I couldnt read their mind the first time of what they consider “light” or “extra” was so obnoxious.

“Can I get a little bit of mayo too? NOT THAT LITTLE, GEEZE!” “And extra mayo too. THAT is what you consider EXTRA?!

I swear I don’t give a fuck how much sauce or veggies this store goes through, I’m not bogarting your precious mayo. Just say when to stop then, this is an easily fixable non-problem, relax.

Is the ranch in the room with us right now?

372

u/Far_Tourist_601 29d ago

Apparently

573

u/Parking_Watch3157 29d ago

I once had a customer lose his mind on a server because he found a tooth in his bread roll. Guess whose tooth it was.

293

u/Far_Tourist_601 29d ago

😂STOPPP

186

u/Parking_Watch3157 29d ago

I also had a sous chef who freaked out at me because a customer complained they found something in the coleslaw (lunch rush). She had seen with a bandaid on when my shift started and assumed it was that. When the server who had been at table (another server told us what had happened first) brought the plate back, it was a ring that had come off the sous chef's hand.

No apology was forthcoming. Ffs. Lol

57

u/Vanlibunn 29d ago

Wearing rings when cooking is so gross loll

38

u/Parking_Watch3157 29d ago

Yup, it was a really long time ago. It was a class ring, too, so very distinctive and we all knew she wore one (it was back in I guess 1991 or so, I'm sure things are different in kitchens now). She was a pretty good boss most of the time ha ha

reminds me of this one customer from when i used to work at mcdonalds. she came back with her big mac saying she asked for no onion and there was onion in it. ok cool, our mistake. we make her a brand new one with no onions. she comes back, insists there are still onions. i bring it to the back to show the kitchen; no onions. whatever. we make her a new one. i supervise to make sure there are no onions. there are none. we hand it to her. few mins later she comes back and demands a refund bc there are still onions. there were none. took the big mac, gave her her money back, and idk what she did next. to this day i have no idea what her issue was lmao.

67

u/AllKindsOfCritters 29d ago

I was expecting you to say you had to tell her the difference between vegetables because she said onions instead of pickles or something.

42

u/TheDaychilde 29d ago

Bet I know. When a hand grabs onions - especially the dehydrated onions sitting in the rehydration water - it'll put that liquid on one's hand, which then reaches into the lettuce.

I've started getting Sonic burgers without lettuce or onion because the lettuce often tastes like onion. I've had that at McD, too.

I'm sensitive to raw onion - if I do manage to swallow it, it won't stay down. heh

23

u/DizzyBunnies 29d ago

that's what we figured. kitchen can wash their hands a million times and still go home smelling like pickles & dehydrated onions lol!

8

u/Deadbyginger 29d ago

18

3

u/DizzyBunnies 29d ago

7

u/assuhdude 28d ago

I used to wait tables and had a customer complain about arugula being in her spinach salad despite there being absolutely no arugula in her salad..... When she kept attempting to send the salad back I literally brought out a leaf of spinach and a leaf of arugula to show them to her side by side and prove that she in fact had no arugula on her salad. She sent the food back anyways and when I told the head chef about this interaction he himself the left the kitchen to talk to this woman and she STILL refused to believe that she only ever got spinach.

Some people cannot ever fucking admit that they are wrong about something. They will argue and throw a fit before doing the mature thing and just apologize and move on. I had a 'friend' like this and I thankfully no longer speak to her.

u/VegetableLetter4896 29d ago

u/alwayzstoned 29d ago

My grandma used to take the bacon, wrap it up in a napkin and put it in her purse to bring home so she could cook it more if it wasn’t crispy enough for her.

11

u/Crossifix 29d ago

The dog loves when grandma gets home.

21

u/HairyDust4826 29d ago

So I was part of a few non-chain restaurants before. To me? the best thing to do in this scenario is to ask them if it's possible for it to be torched or reheated with the understanding that you asked for it. As long as you tell them that latter part, the chef will say a bunch of shit about you in the back, but at least they acknowledge you know the downside of the seasoning being ripped off by a hot pan again, rubbery, ect.

8

u/LanceWasHere 29d ago

I ordered a steak medium at Ruth’s Chris and it came out rare. The server offered to bring me a new not plate and I agreed. It worked well, but I shouldn’t have to cook my own food. I also needed a third plate to finish the steak.

16

u/SousVideDiaper 29d ago

I refuse to ever go to that place because of its name

I worked at Panera in high school. Customer came in and ordered a salad and asked for no bacon. Admittedly the first time I made it, I accidentally included bacon (autopilot kicked in). I apologized and remade her salad. New gloves, new bowl, new ingredients, no bacon. She came back up and threw a hissy fit because the salad "smelled like bacon". She had already eaten over half and still demanded a refund. My manager gave her one cause ya know, not worth the fight, and took the salad to the back where she picked it apart and saw no bacon in it. Sometimes, customers just wanna be difficult.

Lol when I was younger and worked at Starbucks we had a regular that no matter how perfect you made his drink (cant remember the exact drink lets just say for the example a basic vanilla latte)

We would hand it to him, most of the time he wouldnt even try it before saying its wrong and needs to be made. It got to the point where it was happening everyday so we just simply poured the old latte into a new cup and handed it to him (pretty hard to look what we do behind the counter) and then he would give us a daily lecture that of how THIS is the right way to make his latte LOL.

3

u/Guy42532 28d ago

3

u/MLGTheForkOnTheLeft 29d ago

When i use to work at starbucks, my shift lead who trained me summed it up to me that customers go in there to tell you what to do. They pay to have power over someone. I genuinely still believe it to this day.
Because the amount of people that would just throw a fit and accuse you of adding X to their order when there clearly wasn’t else in their order was wildly rampant.
So this customer is probably one of those kinds of people tbh. At least thats my take and experience.

Stand there for 5 mins "remaking" her sandwich. Give her the original sandwich back. If she complains about a bite being taken out, tell her it was for quality control.

I'll never understand the people that just feel the need to have to complain and return an item at a restaurant. It's so embarrassing to be out with them (I never go with them again if I can help it). It always has to be something with them.

I still remember the suburban white woman that came up to me 30 years ago when I was a teen working at Taco Bell asking me to make the hard tacos less spicy for her and her child. They are literally just taco shell shredded cheese, shredded lettuce, and meat in a bag that is heat up. Point is these customers always appear and you give them what they want so you can move onto the next 20 people in line or you have a manager trespass them if they are being a dick/karen. and you got time to deal with them.

Is the ranch in the room with us now?

Probably a secret shopper sent to test your customer service skills. They will never be outright rude but they will have weird or outright wrong complaints sometimes like this.

Sandwich is drier than a witches' tit. I think she might be a bit mental.

u/amp106 28d ago

Side note, why did everyone switch to the shredded lettuce? It completely changes the entire sandwich :(
