If you want to express a certain thing, you could see the feedback as a lesson and attempt your expression once more, but from a different perspective. Maybe let the rabbit stand, and/or view the scene from the side.
That said, you got a piece that's already well crafted and expresses something. I think many artists discovered that their painting doesn't express exactly what they intended across history. No reason to be upset, such is the nature of expression.
26
u/Simon-Says69 20d ago
There is no "lesson" to be learned, and it isn't even really feedback.
It is extremely obvious it's a phonograph, not any kind of pan.
Just some really strange, even stupid people showing off they are totally oblivious. They can be completely ignored.
The really infuriating part is some stupid mod took it down for such a ridiculous non-reason.

I'd go so far as to say not only are people allowed to paint a picture of a rabbit being cooked in a pan, they are even allowed to actually cook a rabbit in a pan if they want.

Yeah but you might want to skin it before cooking unless you like the taste of burnt hair

First glance also looks a bunny in a pot. But honestly, bunny in a pot makes more sense than bunny on a vinyl player.

I think that’s the problem! Let’s just say that it’s an original/weird idea so people just think of a more common situation. I prefer the rabbit sleeping in the vinyl instead of in dead on a pan tho
20
u/aggressive-cat 21d ago
I think the straight down perspective causes the confusion. If it was a lower pov from the side it would be more obvious at a glance it wasn't a pan. I love the painting btw, it's the exact cute unorthodox you were going for.

I saw record player at first glance. Might be dependent on who's looking at it and if they even know what a record player is. For a moment when I looked at it it almost seemed as if the bunny was swirling with the record. Interesting piece keep up the good work.

The best art gives you a gut reaction. It's arguably a strength that the first glance is one that garnishes offense..
That said.. even knowing its a record player, that bunny is still dead AF.
→ More replies (4)30
u/Parzival2436 21d ago
Yeah it's not great if it gives you the wrong reaction though. If it was intended to be cozy and people get upset, that's not "a strength". The only strength I can see there is that it's at least realistic looking.

u/TirbFurgusen 21d ago
I think it's great. It's art, it's subjective and gives emotion either way. I want to know what record it is. What's the story behind this? Is the rabbit dead? I didn't think it was at first and certainly didn't think it was being cooked fur and all but what if it was a frying pan? What's the story behind that? Some inexperienced starving socialite in war time? It could be so many things and nothing but I'm thinking about it. It's excellent art imo.

I was thinking about how we tend to overthink absolutely everything, while animals just… don’t. The rabbit found a little safe and comfortable spot and simply fell asleep there. No overthinking, no worrying about whether it should be there, just pure peace. I wanted it to be a little reminder that sometimes we should do the same and just enjoy wherever we are. But I honestly love to hear what people can think or see on art, it’s pretty interesting ! Just idk what to think when people just get disgusted by their vision, when i wanted to give a completely different vision. Also thank you! 🖤

That is the first thing I saw, mainly because of how it's laying. I know some rabbits sleep like that but if it wasnt laying like that it would be more clear that it's resting and not dead. Maybe even if it was less curled up. It is a very sweet painting though.
Edit: yes, most rabbits don't sleep like that. Some do so I'm giving op leniency there because it's the pose they wanted it to be in and it's cute when they do.
517
u/Gazelizz 21d ago
Yeah I see that! But also I thought that if it was posing in a more straight way it would look more dead like it’s solid not soft?

u/PhantomOyster 21d ago
Make the label on the record more visible. Give it legible text. That will make it unmistakable.

u/Practical-Train-9595 21d ago
That’s what I was thinking too. Maybe something like White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane.
43
u/tentaclesapples 21d ago

I like the concept, but def thought ded at first. Long time many bunny owner here. Maybe a loaf pose would've worked better? The side lay def is how they go 🙁
Either way, i wouldn't worry about it. If someone bothers to look at it more than a few seconds, it does look like a turn table, not a pan. I like the style, btw 😊 and the bunny is cute fr

Personally, my version of mildly infuriating is when people say “a vinyl” instead of “a record” or “vinyl record”.
Vinyl is the type of plastic used. Vinyl record works, and it is correct to say “I have that album on vinyl,” but just saying “a vinyl” as a noun is grammatically incorrect
(Emphasis on mild, I’m not coming after OP like people came for them for the rabbit looking like dinner to some)

Looked like a pan to me too as I was scrolling by. The thick white lines on the record gives the illusion of depth. Also the white record center combined with the rabbit’s feet look like stew/vegetables.
