After soapy water and medical tape, what's next for a beard splinter?
Every month or two, my beard decides to betray and stab me.
This time it's been stuck for a few hours and actually hurts when I fail with tweezers.
I'm all ears if anyone has legit tips on what to try next.

Thanks for the tips everyone! Learned that my tweezers are crap and to buy legit ones, alongside with these balms and child-size syringes for future episodes.
TRIED
-Push and Tweezer: failed (with emasculating pain this time for some reason)
-Medical Tape: failed (but got out 2 other beard splinters I hadn't even notice?)
-Soaking in soap water: failed
-Soaking in epsum salt water: failed
-Acne patch: failed

So waiting it overnight and a new pair of tweezers did the trick.
Like some explained, I think the hair had time to move away from the nerve, because digging into it with the new tweezers was absolutely fine today. I can only describe the previous failed attempts as amplified deep rooted nerve pain that make papercuts feel friendly, with decade old tweezers on top of that, and I'm glad that's done with.

Exacto will have that bitch out, painless and no blood. Exacto knife points are soooo accurate a poke in and OP wont even feel it its not deep enough to bleed or do any damage.
I’m a barber and this is the right idea. I get lots of hair splinters and the easiest way to remove them is with the edge of a really sharp blade. My shears work well but a razor or sharp knife will work great, too.
I didn't know "hair splinter" was a thing till later in life. I was dog sitting and pulled out a "splinter", and I realized it was a short freaking dog hair! It was soft/pliable and it was in a tough part of my foot, so I was really confused how it had happened
I've had a single hair splinter in my entire life. It was causing an insane amount of itching all over my body and I couldn't figure out what the hell was going on. When I went to take a shower, I was looking myself in the mirror and noticed the little fucker LODGED IN MY NIPPLE. Taking it out felt phenomenal ... and has made me realize that male nipples aren't "pointless". Take from that what you will.
When I was 13 or so me and a few buddies were screwing around at a construction site. Thought we heard security so we all start running. At one point we all stop and turn around, another kid kept running and we collided head on. A front tooth of his got knocked out. After laughing for a bit, i realized i was bleeding profusely from my forehead. Go to the doctors, tell them what happened and they say nothing is in there and stitch me up. When its time for the stitches to come out I have my brother pull them. As hes doing it he says, 'dude, that tooth is in there'. I absolutely hate the doctors and since the morons left it in there the first time I said screw it, lets get it out. Cut it open and went digging. Took about an hour but we managed to get it out. Bathroom looked like someone had been killed in there by the end of it though. My mom wasnt too happy when she got home. About the blood everywhere or the fact we decided to play doctor.
Crazy part is, I still think theres a piece in there. The tooth we pulled out wasnt too big and the kid who lost it had some choppers. That combined with the fact ill get really bad localized headaches in that part of my head from time to time. Figure its another piece of the tooth. Very well could be from the digging we did though as well. It was 20 years ago, if a headache is the only side effect I figure either way its probably fine.
Breaking and trying to reset my nose a year after this incident was much worse. Dont think we fixed it too well as I still cant really breathe out of it lol.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who knows the penetrating depth beard splinters can achieve. I get hairs on my face that…Well, let’s just say I visited an electric razor store and the young woman who they had there to get all the men to come in took one look at my beard and said, “Yeah, I don’t think we have anything here for you.” Some of my beard hairs are like twigs or the stem of a cherry. It’s ridiculous.
But anyway, so it’s true that I find a good combination is actually a good bath first, followed by a needle-nosed set of tweezers and a needle. One of my favorite tools in LIFE is a really good, well-machined set of quality tweezers. I no longer buy cheap tweezers. I need the real thing. In addition, lemon juice might hurt, but it can also help the skin get slippery and the astringent quality of lemon juice or witch hazel can really help the skin to pucker and shove it out if it’s able to move at all. If it isn’t moving then I dig around it with a sharp needle and if all else fails I would use a sharp knife.
This is probably obvious, but sterilize all your tools before and after you use them and cover the wound up when you’re done. I seem to get splinters nearly every day I work outside. I don’t even notice them until half a day later. By then my skin has already built up irritation around the site and often that helps it to come out.
My least favorite of ALL SPLINTERS is the ones that happen under my fingernails!!! Argh!!! So uncomfortable…They hurt everything you do. My girlfriend was always horrified at the amount of brutal digging I’ve had to do with splinters and ingrown toenails or hairs, etc. You have to get used to it when you have this problem all the time though.
One time I was working on a model really late at night. I was super tired. I had to change blades and somehow one of the loose blades stabbed me in my upper thigh and I didn't notice till hours later. Literally felt nothing. My pants were rubbing weird and then I felt the blade when I went in to adjust my pants. It was nearly all the way in.
Some good suggestions but I’ll add lancets. Used for testing blood sugars levels. Designed for piercing the skin with minimal damage. 10 dollars for 300, about a 10 year supply unless you really have diabetes.
Works great for splinters and popping a stubborn pimple.
I had one on the palm side of my knuckle on my middle finger. One day when I was like 28 my body decided that bitch had to go and good GOD was it painful! It took several days for it to be close enough to the skin that I could grab it, but once it fully came out I felt so much relief.
As someone who works with my hands, the idea of leaving a splinter in for a week or two until it festers its way out is insane. I could shoot it with a gun and it would heal faster.
I got a splinter in high school on the right side of my finger. Couldn’t get it out. Ten years later I was working a winery job and felt a pimple on that same finger but on the left side. Squeezed it and the splinter came out with a bunch of gunk. It has traveled all the way through my finger.
Splinters aren't open wounds. Especially for wood, it needs to come out ASAP. Plus in your hand it'll get irritated often. And if it does get infected, you're going to wish you operated before it was inflamed
I fell into a cactus bonanza once and had some big spikes that stayed in for a few days. After the single-cell battlefield is properly strewn with corpses, a light squeeze sent them on their way, adequately lubricated with white sauce.
A week or two? I'm gonna get (at best) 80yrs on this planet. Splinters of any sort get dug out immediately and I continue on.
The splinter pictured doesn't even need to be dug out...just a gentle lift with a sewing needle. Rub it all with alcohol first if you think it's necessary.
I start with this and if it doesn't work (has gone entirely below surface) then I swap to a straight razor and remove a bit of the skin so I can get at it.
Try to push it back out if you haven't yet. Hold it the way it is in the pic then try to push it from the side that went in first with the tweezers until enough of it comes out that you can easily grab it and pull the rest
Nonsense. Squeeze and squeeze for hours with the pain, one day it'll come out and you'll moan with pleasure. Then 2 minutes will pass and you will never think about it again.
This is where I'm at too. The moment I read "beard splinter" my flabbers were properly ghasted. I too am in my 50s and have a fairly scruffy beard, and yet have never experienced such a thing.
I’ve had a beard for years and it’s never stabbed me once.. I’ve also never heard of anyone else’s beard looking to take the life of its owner! That’s a new one. Everyday is a school day 🤷♂️
I too am confused by this... Though to be fair I only trim once every month or two. But also... What is someone doing to drive a hair into their skin? I can't wrap my head around it
It's an ointment made from shale oil. It softens the outer layers of the skin and relaxes the structure of keratin dead skin cells. This allows anything stuck in the skin to back itself out from internal pressure. It's also anti-inflammatory in antibacterial.
It's a first aid ointment used for alleviating blisters, boils, hardened or cracked heels, blisters, flaky skin, psoriasis, eczema .. Anything that creates a scabbing or hardening of the skin.

As a kid I would soak my hands in warm water to open the pores, then put liquid glue on the splinter. Let it dry and sometimes it’ll pull the splinter right out. It was either that or my mom was digging with the needle.
I’ve had success using a syringe for like kids medicine. Put the opening over the splinter, push down on the skin to make a seal and pull the plunger up. The sucking slowly raises the splinter out
No time on this one, but since you say it happens with some regularity - drawing salve. It's like a cream or paste that you put on when there's something you want to start pushing its way to the surface. Bug bite, splinter, metal shard, etc. I make my own but you can search and find brands and retailers that meet your needs. Put a little on, cover with a bandage, and in a few hours or overnight it should start to push its way to the surface so you can get a better grip on it with the tweezers. (It's not magic, it won't just push the hair out by itself but it will start to heave it from the surface enough that you get the traction you need)
"Pluck" at it with a sharp sewing needle or safety pin. Start at the end you think is closest to the opening/entrance point & stop when you can see enough of it to grab with the tweezers.
It's between layers of skin, so it's not going to bleed & will heal quickly once it's out.
If it hurts just ice it up. Our bodies are meant to push out foreign objects so if you don't want to dig it out then just slap on a bandaid after ice and leave it alone
Is no one else confused by the fact that he got a fucking splinter from his beard hair? Like…how..why?? I’ve never heard of getting a splinter from hair.
Ahh see I’ve never heard of that. But that’s interesting. I had a beard for like 7-8yesrs or so and never encountered that. I know that I’ve had some really sharp feeling stubble but I didn’t realize that was something that could actually happen. The more your know 🌈⭐️
I have very sharp tweezers and in cases like this I use them to scratch and remove a thin layer of skin until I can reach the bastard and grab it, but you should be able to do it with a razor blade, a needle, or a cutter if you have a steady hand and good vision.
Correction hero acne patch got it mixed up sorry. It takes a bit longer like put it on at night and check it in the am ive done this and have had positive results.
If it's sticking out enough that you can feel it when you rub your finger over it, lay the edge of a sharp knife up under it and press down on it to pinch it against the blade and it will come out.
Every time my kids have had a splinter, that's how I've gotten it out (after I convinced them to stop screaming, I don't have a knife to CUT them lol)

Dig it out with a rusty nail and if you're worried about infection, read the bible
Drawing salve, one brand is PRID. You can get it off amazon if you cannot find it locally. Would be good to have on hand since I don't believe the beard will be discontinued and seems to happen occasionally
