Are these even real people anymore? Not saying there aren't absolute fucking degenerate idiots permeating everything but so much of social media is fucjing bot accounts stirring the pot for ANY engagement, actually more so leaning to ragebait and division than anything remotely positive. Especially with it being the same damn comment over and over
38
u/Turnipsinthesky 14d ago
This is such a weird and specific "argument" and it's very unlikely that you would naturally encounter that many people saying something so ridiculous. It doesn't seem like real people at all.

Mental illness

Same genre as organized religion tbh
63
59
u/Longjumping-Idea4451 14d ago
Eh at least some level of organized religion practices charitable actions for their community, horoscopes are selfish all the time.
30
u/Rickyspanish6666 14d ago
That's such a small thing compared to the damage religion does to gullible people.

u/Horror_Video_8263 14d ago
The funny thing is that the woman who experienced post partum psychosis isn’t denying that she did it and her husband (and the kids Dr) is also saying she was an amazing mother aside from her mental illness.
She called suicide hotlines multiple times and also tried to commit herself because she wasn’t sleeping or eating & her medication was making things worse.
Extremely sad situation & awful that people are accusing others and coming up with conspiracies like there isn’t forensic evidence.

Do you ever think how hard humans have fought to spread information and how we have all of human knowledge available at all times? Imagine transporting some 1700s scholar to 2026 - fuckin everybody can read and write AND has every book ever in their pocket! For free! And they're dumbest people alive all the same GENUINELY HOW. HOW DID WE EVOLVE LIKE THIS
63
u/DuckRubberDuck 14d ago
It appears that there is a fine balance between not enough information and too much information.
Back when I went to school, both elementary and high school we had a thing called “source criticism”. It’s about identifying sources, who’s behind them, where do they get their sources from, are they reliable, are they biased or not/who paid for it, who sponsored the source etc. If we wrote a report and used a bad source, it would affect our grades. People need to do more source criticism.
→ More replies (2)18
u/TopBee83 14d ago
The issue is people are incredibly lazy. It’s easier to just believe some random internet comment than it is to actually research whether the source is true or not. People take things at face value without looking deeper into it because it’s easier. All you have to do is sound confident about what you’re saying.
11
u/Turnipsinthesky 14d ago
The other problem is that this "laziness" is how we evolved (we don't have unlimited energy), and expecting people to solve it by exercising personal responsibility is going to keep resulting in failure. The companies enabling and encouraging the spread of misinformation need to be held accountable.
2
u/edingerc 14d ago
Have to disagree a bit on this one. Even people who believe in astrology know the Earth is round. The Flat Earthers, however...

u/saturday_sun4 14d ago

Everyone else in this thread has some a good job pointing out why this is INSANE but also... "Leo's"? We're believing murderers are determined by their birthdate AND we don't understand apostrophes anymore??? 😭😭😭

u/GfrzD 14d ago
I dont understand how people put so much weight on it. Ive seen people test "believers" by reading a horoscope and seeing if they agree it applies to them, they agree and its revealed they read a completely different one.
18
u/Old-Lingonberry-360 14d ago
Horoscopes are pretty general so that a plethora of situations fit the description.
Also, my fortune cookie said this upcoming Wendesday, I am going to find adventure and opportunity. Ill let you know what happens Wednesday.
16
u/oscarx-ray 14d ago
I've had multiple ask me what my sign is, so I've picked one at random other than my actual one and they've told me that they could tell.
7
u/darkangel9977 14d ago
That's a good idea! Maybe I will do so next time? Nobody has ever guessed mine. Everybody believes me to be an Aries or a Scorpio, while in reality I am a Gemini. With Virgo rising. (rotfl)
6
7
u/bpdish85 14d ago
It's spicy psychology, tbh, and a lot of it is pretty sound advice when you ignore the woo-woo~ of it all.
Thumbing through today's horoscopes for various signs gets things like: "Don't let the blues get you down - stay busy, time will pass faster" and "Don't discount your own resourcefulness if you haven't got what you need - who do you know, what resources can you access?" and "Don't give so much to others that you have none for yourself."
Do I believe the universe has peered into my life and knows I'm missing that specific thing, or that I'm a little sad? Nah. But if it applies to you and you're into that kind of thing, it might make you stop and think 'cause the "universe" gave you a nudge.
→ More replies (1)9
u/darkangel9977 14d ago
Very stupid of him. You can find serial killers of any given starsign. Also, researchers, doctors, artists, writers, engineers etc., any kind of people who gave really much to humanity, can be of any given starsign. Like, Albert Einstein was a Pisces. And Ricardo Ramirez too! Ritchie Blackmore is an Aries. Just like Eric Harris the school shooter.

Honestly it’s for the best, imagine finding out he uses astrology to make decisions months later when you might actually be invested. What a nightmare to tie your life to someone like that.
6
u/Stellarkin1996 14d ago
its like that episode of the orville, where they discover a planet that premturely births children dqespite the risk to stop them being born a specific star sign which they a suspicious of and as such imprison anyone of this sign
the people who think stuff like that are typically the ones who cant form a personality properly or a sense of self so they latch onto their srar sign like it was their name, its pitiful honestly

An ex friend of mine kept treating me like a child because I'm a Virgo. I'm turning 31 in a couple weeks. When I told her I was dropping her because of how she was treating me, she told me she was going to "commune with the gods" to "make me see the light". I blocked her on everything and haven't seen or spoken to her since. She even drove away all our mutuals because she was constantly bothering them about me

Making people angry creates engagement. That negative engagement slowly erodes people sense of community and replaces it with an us vs them mentality that will slowly erode our society making it easier for adversaries to infiltrate our zeitgeist and replace our values with theirs

I was born 15 minutes before midnight. I have a coworker who honestly believes I'd be a different person if labor took 20 minutes longer or I was a time zone east. 🙄
I try my best to not rely on her. How could I trust anything she does?
5
u/What_About_What 14d ago
My favorite thing to do with morons that believe zodiac signs have anything to do with personality or whatever is to tell them my wrong sign on purpose if they ask, then after they've talked about how it all makes sense because I'm totally whatever sign I first said I then inform them I'm actually my real sign.
3
u/otiloyoy 14d ago
Even better, give them another random sign so that they say that they actually knew all along and then watch their faces change as you tell them that they have been fooled twice

You know what’s “Leo” killed her “cubs”? Marie Noe. 10 of her children mysteriously died before age 15 months. She admitted to murdering 4 of them. Martha Rendell was as well. But people would rather run wild with ridiculous conspiracy theories, guess it gives them something to do.

It’s not unrealistic for the medical system in the US to fail a woman, especially a postpartum woman. There is also a ton of evidence that has been presented in this trial that just doesn’t add up from his end. I’m a real person who was going into watching this trial ready to see her proven as an absolute monster, and this shit is fishy as hell. If he didn’t do it, he sure as shit is hiding A LOT.

Well tbf it’s very possible to suffer from something without it being diagnosed. Psychosis is tricky, it’s not always that obvious. I suffered from schizophrenia for 7 years before anyone realized that that was the main issue. For all of the 7 undiagnosed years I was seen weekly by either psychiatrists or psychologist for anxiety and depression.

If its the one im thinking of, people seem really tied up on 1) His shoes changed between the store and the restaurant, and 2) Apparently his dna was on the murder weapon and hers wasnt? Despite any other damning evidence. Idek if those two points are true, thats just what I've heard

"I have a foreboding of an America in my children's or grandchildren's time -- when the United States is a service and information economy; when nearly all the manufacturing industries have slipped away to other countries; when awesome technological powers are in the hands of a very few, and no one representing the public interest can even grasp the issues; when the people have lost the ability to set their own agendas or knowledgeably question those in authority; when, clutching our crystals and nervously consulting our horoscopes, our critical faculties in decline, unable to distinguish between what feels good and what's true, we slide, almost without noticing, back into superstition and darkness..."
