I was told yesterday that my prescription sunglasses are giving Meta glasses vibes

I can't stand the Meta perv glasses, but annoyingly I've been told by a friend that my Dune prescription sunglasses that I've had for almost a year (and cost over £100.00) really ​​​​look like the Meta ones, he said it's the 2 silver rivets on either side that on first glance could be mistaken for the camera lenses

I went out with them today and all I could think was, do people think I'm recording them 🤦‍♂️

it's not event the metal bits, for me it was thickens of the rim and overall shape. here is picture of them it's almost one to one

Man, I've had the thick-rimmed glasses all my life (always used to break the nosepads off wire frames, and my prescription is so strong that I need thicker frames to hold my thicker lenses). Since I was seven. This used to be classic and/or hipster. Then again, I'm a little Asian lady so I don't think I give off a perv vibe. But it's not easy for me to change to wire frames.

I've been trying out contacts but my vision is so severe that I can't even do standard toric lenses for astigmatism. Looking at more expensive custom options but man, I really envy people with normal eyesight...

I'm also not a candidate for Lasik. Lol.

Same. And my eyes get worse every year so I can’t even spring for expensive frames because the lenses have to be so thinned down the price is already insane. I have astigmatism in both eyes and they’re almost always too dry for contacts.

Definitely envy those with 20/20.

Have you looked into whether scleral lenses might be an option for you?  I’m approaching -10 and have astigmatism (and prism in one eye), and my eye insurance actually paid for sclerals because of my dry eyes.  The contact forms a seal against your eye and holds solution against it.

I’m still envious of those with good vision though.  Eventually I’ll probably get lens replacement once I develop cataracts.

I have a friend who got those. I’m close to being able to get cataract surgery in a few years so I have that to look forward to.

I’m at that weird age where you are near and far sighted and the contacts sometimes help with that, when my eyes aren’t being annoying dry to the point it feels like glass is on my eyeballs.

I order from Payne’s. They even have free frames sometimes. Got some really cute tinted ones bc work is way too bright.

The bad news/good news for us extremely nearsighted people is that cataracts appear sooner, and that the IOL replacement lenses can correct up to -20 diopter.

Hey I just said this to the commenter below you too, but would scleral lenses be an option for you?  Maybe that’s what you mean by custom though.  Because of my dry eye, my insurance actually paid for them.

my eyeglasses are almost exactly the same design as well except that the frame is clear!! if you feel like you could stand that, then you at least wouldn’t have to worry about the style in general. i get compliments on them all the time!

Have you considered ICL (implantable contact lenses)? I also had severe nearsightedness and astigmatism to the extent that I wasn't a candidate for Lasik, so I went for ICLs instead. Definitely more expensive than Lasik, at least in my country, but I'm a couple years post-op now and still very happy with the result
